db/db mouse에서 인진(茵蔯), 울금(鬱金), 산사(山査) 복합추출물의 항고지혈 및 항산화 효과 (The Effects of an Extract of Artemisiae Capillaris, Curcumae Longae, and Crataegi Fructus (IUS) on Anti-hyperlipidemia and Anti-oxidation in db/db Mouse Model)

  • Objective: This study was performed to investigate the effect of IUS (Inulsan, an extract of Artemisiae capillaris (茵蔯), Curcumae longae (鬱金), and Crataegi fructus (山査)) on anti-hyperlipidemia, anti-oxidation, and anti-inflammation.Method: We administered water extracts of Artemisiae capillaris, Curcumae longae, and Crataegi fructus for three weeks to db/db mice (C57BL/Ks), animal models induced with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Mice were divided into three groups: normal (C57BL/6J mice group), control group (db/db mice without administration of IUS) and IUS group (db/db mice treated with IUS). Then we measured total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglyceride in the serum after the oral administration of IUS.Results: 1. IUS did not show any cytotoxicity in RAW 264.7 cells. 2. IUS decreased AST, ALP, and creatinine levelsand did not show any liver or renal toxicity in the db/db mice. 3. IUS increased DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity and decreased ROS production in RAW 264.7 cells. 4. IUS significantly decreased IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α production in RAW 264.7 cells. 5. IUS increased HDL cholesterol and significantly decreased total cholesterol and triglyceride in db/db mice. 6. IUS significantly decreased the atherogenic index and cardiac risk factor. 7. In contrast with the control group, fat infiltration in the liver and aorta decreased in IUS treated mice. The cell nucleus was located in the central area in H&E staining of liver. And endomembranes also were more thinner than the control group in H&E staining of aorta.Conclusions: These results suggest that IUS might be effective in the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia.

인진청간탕(茵蔯淸肝湯)이 DMN에 의한 간손상 proteome에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Injinchunggan-tang (Yinchenchinggan-tang) on DMN Liver Damage from Applying Proteomics)

  • Objectives : The purpose of our study was to investigate the effects of Injinchunggan-tang (Yinchenchinggan-tang) on DMN liver damage caused by applying proteomics. Materials and Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this experiment; the rats were divided into the normal group (normal saline), the control group (DMN) and the samplegroup (DMN+IJCGT). The DMN was induced 3 days a week for 3 weeks in the control group. The normal saline without DMN was induced by the same method in the normal group. Injinchunggan-tang extract was orally administered twice a day for 3 weeks after DMN was induced in the sample group. The livers of each group were processed and we investigated histology, OxyBlot, 2-dimensional electrophoresis, and western blot of liver of each group. Results : In the histological findings of the liver, the control group showed portal fibrosis with a few septa or without septa. The sample group showed no fibrosis or portal fibrosis without septa. In the OxyBlot finding, Injinchunggan-tang prevented liver damage by oxidation. In the 2-dimensional electrophoresis finding, formiminotransferase cyclodeaminase (FTCD), FYVE-finger containing protein, aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), and ratio of predicted : hypothetical protein LOC68668 isoform 1 were changed. Conclusions : Injinchunggan-tang exerts an inhibitory effect against the fibrosis and oxidation induced by the DMN in the rat liver cell, and some proteins induced by the DMN were changed by Injinchunggan-tang.

청간해주탕(淸肝解酒湯)이 알코올성 간손상 Proteome에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Chungganhaeju-tang (Qingganjiejiu-tang) on Alcoholic Liver Damages by Applying Proteomics)

  • Objectives : The purpose of our study was to investigate the effects of Chungganhaeju-tang (Qingganjiejiu-tang) on alcoholic liver damage by applying proteomics. Materials and Methods : Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this experiment; the rats were divided into a control group, alcohol group and Chungganhaeju-tang + alcohol group. Ethanol was orally administered twice a day for 4 weeks to the alcohol group. Water without ethanol was administered twice a day for 4 weeks to the control group. Ethanol + Chungganhaeju-tang extract was orally administered twice a day for 4 weeks to the Chungganhaeju-tang + alcohol group. The livers of each group were processed and we investigated histology, OxyBlot, 2-dimensional electrophoresis, and western blot of liver of each group. Results : In the histological findings of the liver, the alcohol group showed portal fibrosis with a few septa or without septa. The Chungganhaeju-tang + alcohol group showed no fibrosis or portalfibrosis without septa. In the OxyBlot finding, Chungganhaeju-tangprevented liver damage by oxidation. In the 2-dimensional electrophoresis finding, formiminotransferase cyclodeaminase (FTCD), glucose regulated protein, 58 kDa (GRP58K), aryl sulfotransferase, sulfotransferase family 1A, member 2, similar to acyl-coenzyme A oxidase-like, and catalase were changed. Conclusion : Chungganhaeju-tangexerts an inhibitory effect against the fibrosis and oxidation induced by alcohol in rat liver cell, and some proteins induced by alcohol were changed by Chungganhaeju-tang.

재결정에 따른 Alloy 617의 고온 산화 거동 및 기계적 특성 (High Temperature Oxidation Behavior and Mechanical Characteristic of Recrystallized Alloy 617)

  • In this study, high temperature oxidation behavior of Alloy 617 was investigated to evaluate the effect of grain size for Alloy 617. The grain size of grain-refined Alloy 617 (GR617) was reduced to $5{\mu}m$ from $71{\mu}m$ for as-received Alloy 617 (AR617) by recrystallization after cold rolling. After high temperature aging, the oxide layers of AR617 and GR617 consisted of $Cr_2O_3$ external oxide scale and $Al_2O_3$ internal oxide. The external oxide scale resulted in a Cr-depleted zone and a carbide free zone below the scale. The depth of the carbide free zone was deeply formed in GR617. On the other hand, the depth of the internal oxide layer in GR617 was shorter than that in AR617. After a 3-point bending test, crack propagation of GR617 was more restricted than that of AR617 because of the different microstructure of the internal oxide.

Rapid Thermal Oxidation 기반의 표면 보호막을 이용한 n-type 실리콘 태양전지의 제작과 전기적 특성 분석 (N-type Silicon Solar Cell Based on Passivation Layer Grown by Rapid Thermal Oxidation)

  • $SiO_2$ layer grown by rapid thermal oxidation and $SiN_x$ layer were used for passivating the surface of n-type silicon solar cell, instead of only $SiN_x$ layer generally used in photovoltaic industry. The rapid thermal oxidation provides the reduction of processing time and avoids bulk life time degradation during the processing. Improvement of 30 mV in Voc and $2.7mA/cm^2$ in Jsc was obtained by applying these two layers. This improvement led to fabrication of a large area ($239cm^2$) n-type solar cell with 17.34% efficiency. Internal quantum efficiency measurement indicates that the improvement comes from the front side passivation, but not the rear side, by using $SiO_2/SiN_x$ stack.

Study of oxidation behavior and tensile properties of candidate superalloys in the air ingress simulation scenario

  • Air ingress incidents are major safety accidents in very-high-temperature reactors (VHTRs). Air containing a high volume fraction of oxygen may cause severe oxidation of core components at the VHTR, especially for the significantly thin alloy tube wall in the intermediate heat exchanger (IHE). The research objects of this study are Inconel 617 and Incoloy 800H, two candidate alloys for IHE in VHTR. The air ingress accident scenario is simulated with high-temperature air flow at 950 ℃. A continuous oxide scale was formed on the surfaces of both the alloys after the experiment. Because the oxide scale of Inconel 617 has a loose structure, whereas that of Incoloy 800H is denser, Inconel 617 exhibited significantly more severe internal oxidation than Incoloy 800H. Further, Inconel 617 showed a significant decrease in ultimate tensile strength and plasticity after aging for 200 h, whereas Incoloy 800H maintained its tensile properties satisfactorily. Through control experiment under vacuum, we preliminarily concluded that serious internal oxidation is the primary reason for the decline in the tensile properties of Inconel 617.

급성 거핵아구성 백혈병 1례 (Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia)

  • Acute Megakaryoblastic leukemia is a rare and rapidly fatal disease characterized by proliferation of megakaryocyte series and atypical megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. Acute Megakaryoblastic leukemia is suspicious when 1) megakaryocyte in peripheral blood, mixture of large and small mononuclear megakaryoblast in the bone marrow 2) cytoplasmic budding in blast 3) myelofibrosis (dense medullary overgrowth of reticulin fibers) 4) PAS(+), ANAE(+), SBB(-), peroxidase(-) and which is confirmed by platelet peroxidase oxidation on electromicroscope or monoclonal antibody. A case of aute megakaryoblastic leukemia was studied morphologically and monoclonal antibody.

Ag-Cu-Ti 브레이징 합금의 산화거동 (Oxidation Behavior of Ag-Cu-Tio Brazing Alloys)

  • Ag-36.8a%Cu-7.4at%Ti 조성의 브레이징 합금을 Si3N4 기판위에 브레이징한 후 브레이징 합금의 산화거동을 대기중 400, 500, 600$^{\circ}C$에서 조사하였다. 브레이징 합금의 구성원소인 Ag는 산화되지 않고 Cu와 Ti가 산화되며, 산화거동은 포물선적 산화법칙을 따랐다. 브레이징 합금의 산화에 따른 활성화에너지는 80kj/ mol 으로서 소량 첨가된 활성원소인 Ti에 의하여 순수한 Cu의 산화시 활성화에너지보다 감소하였다. 산화 초기에 생성되는 외부산화물은 Cu이온의 외부확산에 의해 성장이 지배되는 Cu산화물로 구성되어 있었다. 산화기간이 경과함에 따라 외부산화물층 아래에서 Cu의 농도는 감소되고 Ag의 농도는 증가하는 농도구배가 발생하여, 브레이징 합금의 산화물은 Cu산화물층(CuO)/Ag잉여층/Cu산화물층(Cu2O)/Ag잉여층의 다층구조를 갖았다. 또한, 분위기중의 산소는 Cu산화물 및 Ag잉여층을 통해 브레이징 합금 내부로 확산되어 브레이징 합금내의 Ti와 반응하여 내부산화물 TiO2를 생성하였다.

저탄소강의 대기중 1050~1180℃의 산화에 미치는 합금원소 Si, S, Cu, Sn, Ni의 영향 (Effect of Alloying Elements Si, S, Cu, Sn, and Ni on Oxidation of Low Carbon Steels between 1050 and 1180℃ in Air)

  • Low carbon steels were oxidized isothermally at 1050 and $1180^{\circ}C$ for 4 hr in air in order to determine the effect of alloying elements Si, S, Cu, Sn, and Ni on oxidation. For oxidation resistance of low carbon steels, the beneficial elements were Si, Cu, and Ni, whereas the harmful elements were S and Sn. The most active alloying element, Si, was scattered inside the oxide scale, at the scale-alloy interface, and as an internal oxide precipitate. The relatively noble elements such as Cu and Ni tended to weakly segregate at the scale-alloy interface. Sulfur and Sn were weakly, uniformly distributed inside the oxide scale. Excessively thick, non-adherent scales containing interconnected pores formed at $1180^{\circ}C$.
