  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the education contents and method related to Korean culture by comparing history courses in interior design programs of korea to those of three ether countries. For this research, curricula and syllabus of forty interior design programs in domestic and foreign universities have been analysed. The major findings from the survey are summarized as follows: 1. In terms of the tradition contents ratio in history course United States ranks first, Japan second, China third, and Korea last. In case of Korea, the ratio of credits alloted to tradition to total credits is very low and most of the credits are elective courses not requirement ones. 2. History courses of Korean universities are biased to Western styles. 3. In terms of the ratio of contents about neighbor foreign countries'culture in history courses is United States first, Japan second, China third, and Korea last. Therefore it is proved that net only history courses are devaluated, but also the endeavor to find Korean identity is insufficient in the Korean interior design theory education.

  • Since the importance of early education has been emphasized the Reggio preschools based on the philosophy of open education has been recreated in Korean culture. The Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of conditions for learning that will enhance and facilitate children's construction of their own powers of thinking. Dream and hope of children are reflected in every where of the Reggio preschools that great attention is given to the look and feel of the classroom and environment is considered the‘third teacher.’ The results of the kindergarten design as a way of expressing direct, indirect and eclectic images using nature, that natural elements can become the elements of design in any form, and that nature's images are expressed by not only natural and artificial materials. In addition, safety and harmony with adjacent outdoors are also importantly considered in kindergarten design. Even though there were some limitations on this planning, the findings can be utilized as a basis for generating interior environmental recommendations for planning a better quality of kindergarten.

  • School architecture has been functionally changed a lot as well as the changes of school education. School tries to educate people to recognize their dignity and give life to their personality. In addition, it's also important for school facilities to contribute to making social communities as community establishments beyond its own purpose of education. Researches for school architecture have been going on to make facilities suited for that. At this point of view, this research is looking for methodology contributed to design institutions suitable for education through working on precedents for planning school design. One way to this is studying the method of designing of the design team, 'Coelacanth', selected for good architecture in Japanese school architecture so many times and finding out its connection to interior.

  • Including interior architecture, diverse fields of study for eco-friendly environment is in progress due to the world's crisis consciousness of global environment. And nevertheless, practical use of the research results are still low and systematical problems of the studies are inevitable reality. Thus, this study focused on to the enbodiment of green interior architecture study understanding the problems of precedence studies to make suggestion for the future direction and balancing green interior architecture study seeking for better motivation. Analysing results of the precedent studies indicates that the existing studies loss its diversity and concentrated in the narrow based directions. For the enbodiment of green interior architecture, not simply immerse existing planning method found from case study, the study need to perform in overall areas of green interior architecture and diversify its direction. Besides space designer, user's consciousness are also important results to form a new paradigm of eco-friendly environment. For the applications and use of the study results as the design factor in green interior architecture, first and the most important stept is to innovate attitude towards the nature and shift of consciousness through education as well as the relative studies of design and planning realm to drive both technical, and non-technical design factors are highly demanded.

  • The curriculum analysis of lighting design course in the Interior architecture departments in American universities reveals they share a major concern in the basic lighting theories, the sorts of light source and lighting equipment, daylighting, and interior lighting plav. The curriculum is usually composed of two semesters, the first semester being about lighting theory and simple project, while the second one abut more professional fields of design studio. The curriculum of lighting design at the Interior architecture departments in Korean colleges and universities usually consists of introductory courses in the field. Almost every institution allocated only one semester for the courses, and as the courses should cover the broad range within a short time, they were lacked in the required depth and systematic approach. The analysis also reveals the curriculum in Korea puts emphasis on the interior lighting equipment design, while disregarding the importance of daylighting. In comparison, American institutions have their curriculum focused upon the use of daylighting. The curriculum of lighting design courses in Korea, a major part of space rendering methods in the field of Interior Architecture, should be improved without delay. The courses should be included in the required subjects and the educational aims should be changed from offering a general understanding of the concepts to providing professional knowledge and skills, which would contribute to the competitiveness of the departments.
