A new Fabry-Perot tunable filter has been built with simple construction, which does not require any additional aligning and/or beam-confining components for the reduction of the diffraction loss. For this feature, one of the two fibers for the filter is processed to have a concave mirror whose curvature is the same as that of the wavefront of the Gaussian beam from the first fiber. After high reflection coatings, the two fibers are aligned to result in an FP filter whose bandwidth, free spectral range, and insertion loss is 1.47nm, 52nm, 5.6dB respectively.

This paper proposes an efficient detection algorithm, which is composed of an interference nulling-and cancelling-based detection algorithm and a maximum likelihood (ML) detection algorithm having reduced numbers of signal points to be tested, for the quasi-orthogonal space-time code with four transmit antennas. When high-level modulation schemes are employed, the algorithm enables the quasi-orthogonal code to achieve near ML performance with a significant reduction in the computational load.

PWM controlled line-side converters of modern ac traction locomotives inject harmonic currents into the feeding overhead line. This causes problem of electromagnetic interference. Passive and Active filters are usually provided for a reduction of the line harmonics. Active filters are more reasonable than passive filters in terms of weight and space of the filters. Successful control of active filters requires an accurate harmonic current reference. A technique to generate the harmonic current reference is proposed in this paper. The analysis is performed in frequency domain and its effectiveness is verified by simulation.

This paper investigates the effect of the conducted EMI Electromagnetic Interference and the switching loss which occurs from the switching devices in the switching period of the unipolar and limited unipolar switching circuits. The three main sources of conducted EMI and switching loss in the unipolar and limited unipolar switching circuit come from the switching devices, the number of switching times in the switching period and their switching waveform. I investigated whether US naval pulp wastes (pulverized paper products), which is planned to be dumped into offshore waters, may affect the ecology of major components of marine zooplankton. The presence of slurry (0.6% concentration - wet weight ; wet weight) did not significantly affect the population growth rates of the heterotrophic dinoflagellate Polykrikos kofoidii fed on Lingulodinium polyedrum, but significantly reduced the ingestion rates of the calanoid copepods Acartia spp. on L. polyedrum and those of the copepod Calanus pacificus on Akashiwo sanguinea (previously Gymnodinium sanguineum). However, C. pacificus, originally exposed to 0.6% slurry for 24 hour, can recover its feeding rates when slurry disappears. Therefore, if slurry is diluted quickly due to trubulence after being dumped at 0.6% concentration, its presence may not affect Calanus. Chemicals leached from slurry did not affect the feeding rate of Calanus. Therefore, mechanical interference by slurry on the feeding and/or swimming of copepods may be mainly responsible for the reduction of the ingestion rates.

An experimental method to investigate the dynamic characteristics of buoys in extreme environmental condition is established. Because the buoy model requires a resonable size for accurate experiment, the test condition in model basin that satisfies the similarity law is hardly compatible with capability of test facilities. It is suggested that the linear wave component that is unable to satisfy similarity is separated with others‥‥‥

Xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), a classic enzyme involved in purine catabolism, can catalyze the formation of redox-signaling reactive oxygen and nitrogen species such as superoxide and nitric oxide. We generated transgenic plants of Arabidopsis in which XDH was knocked out by introduction of hairpin RNA-expression vector. Expression analysis by reverse transcription-PCR and in-gel staining of XDH activity revealed that transgenic lines efficiently suppressedXDH expression at the transcriptional level, demonstrating that RNA interference was successfully induced. XDH-suppressed transgenic lines exhibitedincreased biomass production during the growth of seedlings.

Hydroxlamine effect on the determination of dissolved oxygen by the azide-modified Winkder method and polarography has been studied. It was found that hydroxylamine interference on the dissolved oxygen by the azide-modified Winklet method can be eliminated completely by using permanganate. An inexpensive and convenient polarograph device was constructed. Dissolved oxygen in an air-saturated 0.1 F KCl solution undergoes, independent of hydroxylamine concentrations a two-step irreversible reduction at the dropping electrode the $H_2O_2$ produced in the first step is reduced to $H_2$O in the second. Two waves of equal size result, the first with a half-wave potential (E1/2) at about -0.13 V and the second at about -0.91 V (vs. SCE).

To resolve the problems of underground space and shade area, repeaters which is used in CDMA system affect the performance and services of a base station or the other services. In this paper, we propose relevant procedures in using CDMA repeaters and the effect of CDMA base stations. Switching PFC converters are widely used not only to comply the power quality specification but also for maximum efficiency. However switching PFC converters generate serious electromagnetic interference(EMI). In this paper to solve this problem, we applied the APW(Anti-Phase Winding) and RPWM(Random PWM) technique to PFC boost converter and obtained good results. Simulation and experimental results show the improved harmonics and reduced EMI effect in air-conditioner system.
