  • We fabricated ramp-edge Josephson junctions with barriers formed by interface treatments instead of epitaxially grown barrier layers. Low-dielectric Sr$_2AITaO_6$(SAT) layer was used as an ion-milling mask as well as an insulating layer for the ramp-edge junctions. An ion-milled YBa$_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO)-edge surface was not exposed to solvent through all fabrication procedures. The barriers were produced by structural modification at the bottom YBCO edge using plasma treatment prior to deposition of the top YBCO electrode. We investigated the effects of pre-annealing and post-annealing on the characteristics of the interface-treated Josephson junctions. The junction parameters were improved by using in-situ RF plasma cleaning treatment.

We investigated the effects of high energy ion-beam treatment, annealing, and counter electrode deposition temperature on the characteristics of the interface-controlled Josephson junctions. The junction parameters such as T$_c$, I$_c$c, R$_n$ were measured and discussed in relation to the barrier layer depending on the process parameters.

  • Application of bonded dissimilar materials in various industries are increasing. When these materials are used in structures, it needs to investigate strength evaluation applying fracture mechanics. Al/Epoxy bonded dissimilar materials with an interface crack and an interface crack emanating from an edge semicircular hole were prepared for the static tests so that experiment of fracture toughness were carried out. Stress intensity factors of interface cracks in bonded dissimilar materials were computed with boundary element method(BEM) and the fracture criteria of mixed mode crack were analyzed. From the results, the fracture criteria and the method of strength evaluation by the fracture toughness in Al/ Epoxy bonded dissimilar materials were proposed.

  • The brain-machine interface(BMI) is a next-generation interface that controls the device by decoding brain waves(also called Electroencephalogram, EEG), EEG is a electrical signal of nerve cell generated when the BMI user thinks of a command. The brain-machine interface can be applied to various smart devices, but complex computational process is required to decode the brain wave signal. Therefore, it is difficult to implement a brain-machine interface in an embedded system implemented in the form of an edge device. In this study, we proposed a new type of brain-machine interface system using IoT technology that only measures EEG at the edge device and stores and analyzes EEG data in the cloud computing. This system successfully performed quantitative EEG analysis for the brain-machine interface, and the whole data transmission time also showed a capable level of real-time processing.

  • A simplified method for determining the three mode(I, II, III) components of the strain energy release rate of free-edge delaminations in composite laminates is proposed. The interlaminar stresses are evaluated using the interface moment and the interface shear forces which are obtained from the equilibrium equations at the interface between the adjacent layers. Deformation of an edge-delaminated laminate is analysed by using a generalized quasi-three dimensional classical laminated plate theory. The analysis provides closed-form expression for the three components of the strain energy release rate. The analyses are performed for composite laminates subjected to uniaxial tension, with free-edge delaminations located symmetrically and asymmetrically with respect to the laminate midplane. The analysis results agreed with a finite element solution using the virtual crack closure technique.

The interlaminar stresses are evaluated as an interface moment and interface shear forces that are obtained from the equilibrium equations at the interface between the adjacent layers. Deformation of an edge-delaminated laminate is calculated by using a generalized quasi-three dimensional classical laminated plate theory developed by the authors. The analysis provides closed-form expression for the three components of the strain energy release rate. Comparison of results with a finite element solution using the virtual crack closure technique shows good agreement. In the present study, laminated composite with stacking sequences of [30/-30/90]$_{s}$ were examined. The simple nature of the method makes it suitable for primary design analysis for the delaminations of laminated composite.e.

  • The effects of interaction between concrete-gypsum interface and edge crack on the failure behavior of the specimens in senicircular bend (SCB) test were studied in the laboratory and also simulated numerically using the discrete element method. Some quarter circular specimens of gypsum and concrete with 5 cm radii and hieghts were separately prepared. Then the semicircular testing specimens were made by attaching one gypsum and one concrete sample to one another using a special glue and one edge crack is produced (in the interface) by do not using the glue in that part of the interface. The tensile strengths of concrete and gypsum samples were separately measured as 2.2 MPa and 1.3 MPa, respectively. during all testing performances a constant loading rate of 0.005 mm/s were stablished. The proposed testing method showed that the mechanism of failure and fracture in the brittle materials were mostly governed by the dimensions and number of discontinuities. The fracture toughnesses of the SCB samples were related to the fracture patterns during the failure processes of these specimens. The tensile behaviour of edge notch was related to the number of induced tensile cracks which were increased by decreasing the joint length. The fracture toughness of samples was constant by increasing the joint length. The failure process and fracture pattern in the notched semi-circular bending specimens were similar for both methods used in this study (i.e., the laboratory tests and the simulation procedure using the particle flow code (PFC2D)).

  • This paper presents a domain decomposition method for buckling analysis of rectangular Kirchhoff plates subjected to uniaxial inplane load and with mixed edge support conditions. A plate is decomposed into two rectangular subdomains along the change of the discontinuous support conditions. The automated Ritz method is employed to derive the governing eigenvalue equation for the plate system. Compatibility conditions are imposed for transverse displacement and slope along the interface of the two subdomains by modifying the Ritz trial functions. The resulting Ritz function ensures that the transverse displacement and slope are continuous along the entire interface of the two subdomains. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are verified with convergence and comparison studies. Buckling results are presented for several selected rectangular plates with various combination of mixed edge support conditions.

  • Interfacial stress singularity in a unidirectional two-dimensional laminate model consisting of an elastic fiber and a viscoelastic matrix has been investigated using the time-domain boundary element method. First, the interfacial singular stresses between the fiber and the matrix of a unidirectional laminate subjected to a uniform transverse tensile strain have been investigated near the free surface, but without any defect or any edge crack. Such a stress singularity might lead to fiber-matrix debonding or interfacial edge cracks. Then, the overall stress intensity factor for the case of a small interfacial edge crack of length a has been computed.

  • The order of the stress singularity that occurs at the termination of an interface between materials exhibiting bilinear stress-strain response under plane strain conditions has been calculated, The governing equation of elasticity together with traction-free boundary condition and interface continuity condition defines a two-point boundary value problem. The stress components near the free edge are assumed to be proportional to r/sup s-1/, with solutions existing only for certain values of s. Finding these values entails the solution of an eigenvalue problem. Because it has been impossible to integrate the differential equations analytically, the integration has been performed numerically with a shooting method coupled with a Newton improvement scheme.
