The present paper addresses magnetohydrodynamic pulsating flow and heat transfer of two immiscible, incompressible, and conducting couple stress fluids between two permeable beds. The flow between the permeable beds is assumed to be governed by Stokes' [28] couple stress fluid flow equations, whereas the dynamics of permeable beds is determined by Darcy's law. In this study, matching conditions were used at the fluid-fluid interface, whereas the B-J slip boundary condition was employed at the fluid-porous interface. The governing equations were solved analytically, and the expressions for velocity, temperature, mass flux, skin friction, and rate of heat transfer were obtained. The analytical expressions were numerically evaluated, and the results are presented through graphs and tables.
The objective of this paper is to study two dimensional steady gravitational waves on the interface between two immiscible, inviscid and incompressible fluids bounded above by a horizontal rigid boundary and below by a rigid step. A KdV equation for the first order perturbation in an asymptotic expansion can appear. However the coefficient of the KdV theory fails in that case. By a unified asymptotic method, we overcome this difficulty and derive a modified KdV equation with forcing. We find homogeneous steady solutions and present numerical solutions.

In the numerical simulation of wave fields using a multi-phase flow model that considers simultaneous flows of materials with different states such as gas, liquid and solid, there is need of an accurate representation of the interface separating the fluids. We adopted an algebraic interface capturing method called tangent of hyperbola for interface-capturing(THINC) method for the capture of the free-surface in computations of multi-phase flow simulations instead of geometrical-type methods such a volume of fluid(VOF) method. The THINC method uses a hyperbolic tangent functions to represent the surface, and compute the numerical flux for the fluid fraction functions. One of the remarkable advantages of THINC method is its easy applicability to incorporate various numerical codes based on Navier-Stokes solver because it does not require the extra geometric reconstruction needed in most of VOF-type methods. Several tests were carried out in order to investigate the advection of interfaces and to verify the applicability of the THINC method to wave fields based on the one-field model for immiscible two-phase flows (TWOPM). The numerical results revealed that the THINC method is able to track the interface between air and water separating the fluids although its algorithm is fairly simple.
Three-dimensional numerical simulation of isothermal/nonisothermal coextrusion process of two immiscible polymers through a rectangular channel has been done using the finite element method. The encapsulation phenomenon with the less viscous layer encapsulating the more viscous layer was investigated with the generalized Newtonian fluids. The interface position around the symmetric plane obtained by numerical simulation nearly coincided with the one observed in experiments, but the degree of encapsulation was less than the one observed experimentally. Open boundary condition method was found to be applied to the simulation of nonisothermal coextrusion process, however, the results are not far from those using the fully developed boundary condition, because the temperature development along the downstream direction is very slow in the case of convection dominated flow. When the inlet velocity is increased, the interface profile does not change in isothermal flow, while it moves upward in nonisothermal situation. The degree of encapsulation decreases along the downstream direction in nonisothermal flow. When the inlet temperature increases compared to the wall temperature, the outlet interface moves downward and the degree of encapsulation increases. The difference of degree of encapsulation between the simulation and the experiments seems to arise from the viscoelastic effect of the materials. It was concluded that the nonisothermal effect alone does not explain the complex coextrusion process and the viscoelastic effect needs to be considered.

Amphiphilic gold nanoparticles, synthesized by the simultaneous binding of hydrophilic and hydrophobic ligands on their surfaces, find diverse applications in energy, bio, optical, electronic technologies, and various other fields. Particularly, these amphiphilic gold nanoparticles possess both hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics, enabling them to activate interface at the interface of immiscible fluids and form organized structures. The surface properties of gold nanoparticles play a crucial role in influencing the behaviors of amphiphilic gold nanoparticles at the interface of two fluids. Therefore, this study investigated the adsorption behaviors of gold nanoparticles at the organic solvent-water interface based on the surface characteristics of amphiphilic gold nanoparticles and the type of organic solvents. It was observed that the amount of adsorbed gold nanoparticles at the interface increased with the length of hydrocarbon chains in hydrophobic ligands and increased with shorter hydrocarbon chains in the organic solvent. Furthermore, using the Langmuir isotherm model, the study confirmed the formation of a monolayer by amphiphilic gold nanoparticles and obtained significant thermodynamic parameters simultaneously.
This study aims to provide a better understanding of the turbulent flow characteristics in swash zone. A double dam-break method is employed to generate the swash zone flow. Comparing with the conventional single dam-break method, a delay between two gate opening can be controlled to reproduce various interactions between uprush and backwash. For numerical simulations, overInterDyMFoam based on OpenFOAM is adopted. Using overInterDyMFoam, interface between two immiscible fluids having different densities (i.e., air and water phases) can be tracked in a moving mesh with multiple layers. Two-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a standard 𝜅-𝜖 turbulence model for momentum and continuity. Numerical model results are validated with laboratory experiment data for the time series of water depth and streamwise velocity. Turbulent kinetic energy distribution is further investigated to identify the turbulence evolution for each flow regime (i.e., uprush, backwash, and swash-swash interaction).

In the present work, we investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of a turbulent bore, such as tsunami bore and tidal bore, generated by the removal of a gate with water impounded on one side. The bore generation system is similar to that used in a general dam-break problem. In order to the numerical simulation of the formation and propagation of a bore, we consider the incompressible flows of two immiscible fluids, liquid and gas, governed by the Navier-Stokes equations. The interface tracking between two fluids is achieved by the volume-of-fluid (VOF) technique and the M-type cubic interpolated propagation (MCIP) scheme is used to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The MCIP method is a low diffusive and stable scheme and is generally extended the original one-dimensional CIP to higher dimensions, using a fractional step technique. Further, large eddy simulation (LES) closure scheme, a cost-effective approach to turbulence simulation, is used to predict the evolution of quantities associated with turbulence. In order to verify the applicability of the developed numerical model to the bore simulation, laboratory experiments are performed in a wave tank. Comparisons are made between the numerical results by the present model and the experimental data and good agreement is achieved.
