The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships between appearance interest, appearance satisfaction, and life satisfaction of adolescent, to disclose the differences of these variables according to demographic characteristics, and to examine the determinants of life satisfaction. The subjects were 322 teenaged girls (167 middle school students and 155 high school students) living in Seoul. The variables of appearance interest were plastic surgery, weight control, clothing interest, and hairstyle interest. Life satisfaction included school life satisfaction and daily life satisfaction. Appearance satisfaction had negative relationships with plastic surgery interest and weight control interest, while appearance satisfaction had no relationships with clothing interest and hairstyle interest. School life satisfaction and daily life satisfaction had negative relationships with plastic surgery interest. The upper class adolescents had high level of clothing interest and life satisfaction, and lower class adolescents had high level of plastic surgery interest and had low appearance satisfaction as compared to other classes. The adolescent group with high school grade had high level of appearance satisfaction, and the group with low school grade had high level of weight control interest. The life satisfaction was influenced by appearance satisfaction the most, and the next in the order by school grade, residence area, and weight control interest. The explanatory power of the four variables was 30.8%. Social stratification and whether mothers had an occupation or not had an indirect effect on the life satisfaction.

The purpose of this study were to investigate the differences in depression, appearance interest, and appearance adornment according to demographic variables, and how to examine degree of make-up and visit to a beauty shop was influenced by depression, and demographic variables. Subjects were 117 elderly women in their 60's to 70's in Jinju, Korea. There was a significant difference in appearance interest according to age. There were significant differences in appearance interest, makeup, and visit to a beauty shop according to education. That is, the high level group of education had a high degree of makeup, and a high interest in appearance than the low level group. There was a difference in appearance interest and makeup according to healthy condition. That is, the good healthy group had a high interest of appearance, and the high degree of makeup than the poor healthy group. The degree of makeup had an effect on appearance interest and education($R^2=.505$). The visit to a beauty shop had an effect depression(-), yes or no of a mate, and allowance($R^2=.192$).
This research studied men's cosmetics purchasing behavior based on the level of interest one has in one's appearance, the country of origin, and the sales promotion of the cosmetics. The study was conducted by experimental $2{\times}[2{\times}2]$ design by combining the 3 variables mentioned above. The Independent variables in this research were levels of appearance interest(high vs. low), the country of origin(Korean vs. foreign), and types of sales promotion(discount vs. coupon). The dependent variables were the purchase behaviors including favor to cosmetics and purchase intent. Two hundred male consumers participated for the study. Data analysis conducted were factor analysis, cluster analysis and ANOVA. The results were as follows. 1. Male consumers' cosmetics favorness: 3-way significant interaction, in appearance interest, the country of origin, and types of sales promotion, was found for favor to male cosmetics. When male subjects were provided with price discounts and skin care coupons for the Korean cosmetics, they didn't reveal significant differences in favor, regardless of the level of appearance interest. However, for the imported cosmetics, male subjects with high appearance interest showed more favor to the cosmetics than the ones with low appearance interest. 2. Male consumers' purchase intent: 3-way significant interaction, in appearance interest, the country of origin, and types of sales promotion was found for the purchase intent. When male subjects were provided with price discounts and skin care coupons for the Korean cosmetics, they didn't show significant difference in purchase intent, regardless of their appearance interest. This study examines underwear purchase behaviors and the attitude of male consumers based on the degree of interest in appearance. Data research was conducted on 296 males in their 20s and 30s located in Seoul & Gyeonggi province. The SPSS 17.0 software program was used to conduct data analyses such as descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and $\chi^2$-test. The results of this study are as follows: The degree of interest in appearance was identified with four factors; outfit management, confidence of figure, interest in clothing, weight control, and disinterest in appearance. Customers were segmented into two subdivisions: high and low interest in appearance. The factors derived from the factor analysis of underwear purchase motive included aesthetic, impulsiveness, and practicality. The purchase behavior of the group with high interest in appearance was highly motivated by aesthetics and impulsiveness. The factors derived from the factor analysis of underwear attitude included fashionability, comfortableness, and quality. Customers were segmented into the following three subdivisions: pursuit of comfortableness, pursuit of diversity, and normal. The type of high interest in appearance regarded fashionability and quality highly. Finally, the degree of interest in appearance showed significant relevance in purchase motive and underwear attitude for underwear.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-efficacy and appearance interest on appearance management and clothing purchase behavior of new silver generation. The research method was a survey method using a questionnaire. The subjects were 300 new silver woman(aged from 50 to 64) living in the large city. Statistical analysis methods were factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. The self-efficacy factor divided into three categories including self-control efficacy, social self-efficacy and physical self-efficacy. And appearance interests were divided into four categories including weight control interest, outfit management interest, interest in clothing and disinterest in appearance. Self-efficacy had significant effect on various appearance interests. Especially physical self-efficacy was the important factor which could describe the appearance interests more effectively. Self-efficacy and appearance interests had significant effect on appearance management and clothing purchase behavior. Social self-efficacy could describe more appearance management behavior, while on the other side self-control efficacy could describe the clothing purchase behavior more effectively.

The purpose of this study is to find out how female immigrants are interested in beauty and how fashion affects their fashion management behavior. First, the correlation between interest in beauty and fashion behaviors showed that every factor has a positive relationship with each other. Self-interest, which is one of the two sub-factors of interest in beauty, showed a particularly strong correlation with interest in orientation towards fashion. Interest in appearance education, which is one of the two sub-factors of interest in fashion, showed a strong relationship with interest in orientation towards fashion, proving that the more one is interested in appearance-related education, the more she follows fashion trends. This suggests that caring for appearance and fashion trends have a strong relationship. Second, looking into the effect of interest in beauty and fashion on fashion behaviors, it turned out that only personal interest, out of the two sub-factors of interest in beauty, affected pursuit of fashion sense, out of the two sub-factors of fashion behaviors; interest in appearance education rather than interest in orientation towards fashion affected pursuit of fashion sense; interest in orientation towards fashion affected caring for one's appearance.
The developments of consumption culture and mass media have caused consumers to take a greater interest in appearance, and as a result, the appearance related industry has been rapidly developed. Since appearance serves as a means to attain a smooth and successful social life, women invest a lot of time in cultivating their appearance more prominently than others and are more agreeable to the criteria of beauty in society. This study is to analyze the degree of satisfaction of appearance in teens to women in their 50s as classified by their lifestyle. For the data analysis, the statistical program, SPSS WIN 14.0 was used. First, the results of examining the degree of interest in appearance, the degree of bodily satisfaction, and the degree of bodily importance showed that the interest in appearance was highest in the fashion pursuing group. The degree of bodily importance was highest in the economy-oriented group. Second, appearance management attitudes showed significant differences m hair attitudes, makeup attitudes, skin attitudes, face-lifting attitudes, and clothing attitudes, depending on the types of lifestyle. Third, it could be seen that the conservative-oriented groups were doing more skin care management than the other groups.

The objectives of this study were to classify the contents of lifestyle of adolescents, to investigate the relationships between lifestyles and appearance behavior, and to examine how appearance behavior was influenced by lifestyles and demographic variables of male and female adolescents. The method of the study was survey research by using questionnaires. Subjects were 414 high school students in Seoul: 176 were males and 238 females. Five dimensions of lifestyles were derived by factor analysis: ‘digital orientation', 'positive activity', 'achievement orientation', 'material orientation', and ‘frugality'. Digital orientation had, in case of the male, a positive relation with body-modification need, a positive one with appearance interest in female. Positive activity had positive relations with appearance interest and body satisfaction in both male and female. Appearance interest, weight interest, and body-modification need levels were significantly higher for female than for male, whereas body satisfaction were higher for male than for female. Appearance interest of male was influenced by positive activities and social stratification. Appearance interest of female was influenced by material orientation and positive activity. Body-modification need of male was influenced by digital orientation and frugality(-), that of female only influenced by material orientation. Fashion and brand preference of male was influenced by material orientation, frugality(-), and social stratification. In case of the female, fashion was influenced by positive activity, material orientation and frugality(-), brand preference influenced by material orientation and positive activity.

The purposes of this study were to classify high school male and female students according to body cathexis and appearance interest, and understand their appearance management behaviors and clothing benefits sought. The results were as follows : First, the body cathexis of high school students were low, and female students had lower body cathexis than male students especially in the lower halves of bodies. The appearance interests of students were high, but female students had higher appearance interests than male students. Second, male students were classified by body cathexis and appearance interest into three groups with high, middle, and low body cathexis and appearance interest, and most of them belonged to the middle group. Female students were classified into four groups(with high body cathexis and appearance interest, with high body cathexis but low appearance interest, with low body cathexis but high appearance interest, and with low body cathexis and appearance interest) and most of them belonged to the group with low body cathexis but high appearance interest. Third, male students in groups with high and middle body cathexis and appearance interest showed more appearance management behaviors than those in the group with low body cathexis and appearance, while management behavior, followed by the group with low body cathexis but high appearance interest, that with high body cathexis but low appearance interest, and that with low body cathexis and appearance interest. Fourth, female students sought more aesthetics, fashionability, brand, and price in clothing coml)wed to male students. Male students in high and middle groups tended to seek more aesthetics, fashionability, and brand than those in the low group, but all three groups didn't consider price benefit sought. Female students with high body cathexis and appearance interest tended to seek more aesthetics and fashionability than those in other three groups. And only the group with low body cathexis and appearance interest didn't consider brand benefit sought. All four groups were found to consider price benefit sought. I hope that results of this study help teachers to guide students' clothing life more positively by understanding their appearance management behaviors and clothing benefits sought than to control negatively.
This study examined the degree of appearance interest and clothing conformity, the impacts of appearance interest on clothing conformity, and the effects of appearance interest and demographic variables on clothing conformity. A questionnaire survey collected data from October $3^{rd}$ to $27^{th}$ 2011. A convenience sample was drawn from adults between the ages of 17 and 76 who lived in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions of South Korea. A total of 513 responses produced complete and usable questionnaires. Data were tested through factor analysis and regression analysis, using SPSS 20.0. The results of this study are as follows : First, three factors were extracted from clothing conformity (normative, informative, identifiable conformity). The appearance interest was relatively high and normative conformity was the highest level among three factors of clothing conformity. Second, appearance interest was significant predictors of clothing conformity. Third, demographic variables such as gender, marital status, age and education levels had significant effects on the relationship between appearance interest and clothing conformity.
