This paper describes electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. Electric shock accidents mostly involve damage of human life, in comparison with electrical fire, rate of human death tend to be higher in electric shock accidents. Specially, in a high voltage facilities rate of human death comprised about 43.7% by electric shock accidents. If electric shock accidents happen in a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant, then the power plant discontinue power production. Electric shock accidents in a power plant have a great ripple effect such as an electric power shortage. In this paper, we analyzed electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker for power plant. From the analysis results, we confirmed a cause of electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, it happened by defect of interlock equipment or occurrence of breakdown between first feeder contactor and shielding plate. In order to reduce electric shock accidents on a 4.16 kV class circuit breaker, the power plant should consider improvement of interlock equipment and insulation of feeder contactor in circuit breaker.

This paper presents the design and test results of a 10kVA single phase HTS transformer which is operating at 77K. Double pancake windings with BSCCO -2223 HTS tape and GFRP cryostat with room temperature bore are used in the transformer. Four double pan cake windings were used in pancake windings are connected in parallel to conduct the secondary current of 45.4A. the rated voltages of each winding are 440/220V. Numerical calculation using Finite Element Method was used to evaluated the performance of each arrangement. Considering the magnetizing reactance, leakage reactance, electrical insulation and the circulating current in low voltage winding which had two windings in parallel, HLLH arrangement was finally chosen. Estimation of the AC loss, magnetizing loss and self field loss, in the design stage, where effects of perpendicular field and parallel field are considered. Room temperature bore type cryostat has been constructed and its heat loss was measured.

Electrical arc is the final stage of insulation breakdown and has high current density which cause heat and light in insulator. Insulator under electrical arc lost its insulating strength and eternal damages. Conventional criterion of electrical arc resistance in Standards have depended on the change of sound pressure and light color after damages on insulator by electrical arc. The recognition of these changes is done by human himself which was very subjective and resulted in some error to judge whether insulator has damages or not. This paper has shown that antenna method is the appropriate measure to judge electrical arc resistance for insulator. Antenna measures the electromagnetic waves radiated from tungsten electrodes with 6mm gap regulated by KSC2130. Applied voltage cross two tungsten electrodes have two different methods such as 1/8 10 and continuous 10mA. Signal amplitudes obtained by antenna has diminished after the damage of insulator, which will provide objective and good way to judge the electrical arc resistance.
In this work, experimental investigation has been mainly done. For this purpose, UHF sensor has been designed and fabricated to detect the partial discharges produced from the 10 artificial defects introduced into the real scale 70kV GIS mock-up under the high voltage at the well shielded room. And also, in order to verify the applicability of the proposed method at the site, the proposed CAPD (chaos analysis of partial discharge) is combined with spectral analysis method in order to identify the nature of the above 10 defects. The PD pattern recognition of each defect has been fulfilled by applying self developed artificial neural network soft ware. The result shows that the recognition rate is reached to be 80% by newly proposed method while the traditional PRPD analysis method leads us to obtain 41%. In consequence, it can be pointed out that the proposed method seems likely to be applicable to the real GIS at the site.

GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) is important power apparatus which have strong dielectric strength, supply electric power and is a part of the power system. Most substation type is configured as GIS. Recently, because of continuous increasement of GIS demand resulted from high quality & big capacity of electric power, the necessity of the preventive & diagnosis system is being expanded gradually. GIS partial discharge occurred on the UHF band is detected effectively by the method to IEC 60270 that recommend to be able to detect the apparent minimum discharge, 5 pC. Additionally, the UHF sensor should be installed to detect PD signal if Partial discharge signal, 5 pC occur in every part of GIS. Currently PD diagnosis system applying UHF sensor for GIS with various voltage level like 154 kV, 345 kV, 765 kV have been operated. And it is necessary to measure and analyze insulation breakdown phenomenon of inside GIS exactly. In this paper, we proposed Fat-dipole patch UHF sensor that is developed and more sensitive, excellent wide-range characteristic than the exising UHF sensor. And we performed KERI (Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) reference test, which showed the excellent result for the all tests.

Partial discharge (PD) measurements have emerged as a dominant investigative tool for condition monitoring of insulation in high voltage equipment. But the major problem behind them the PD signal is severely polluted by several noises like White noise, Random noise, Discrete Spectral Interferences (DSI) and the challenge lies with removing these noise from the onsite PD data effectively which leads to preserving the signal for feature extraction. Accordingly the paper is mainly classified into two parts. In first part the PD signal is artificially simulated and mixed with white noise. In second part the PD is measured then it is subjected to the proposed denoising techniques namely Translation Invariant Wavelet Transform (TIWT). The proposed TIWT method remains the edge of the original signal efficiently. Additionally TIWT based denoising is used to suppress Pseudo Gibbs phenomenon. In this paper an attempt has been made to review the methodology of denoising the PD signals and shows that the proposed denoising method results are better when compared to other wavelet-based approaches like Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), by evaluating five different parameters like, Signal to noise ratio, Cross-correlation coefficient, Pulse amplitude distortion, Mean square error, Reduction in noise level.
The capacitive current breaking capability as well as the short circuit current breaking capability is a very important factor in the performance of a circuit breaker. The dielectric recovery capability between poles should be considered in the desist of a circuit breaker because approximately two times of the maximum power system voltage might be applied between poles after the capacitive current be interrupted. The electric field and flow field analyses were utilized in the calculation of dielectric recovery characteristics between poles of 800kV model interrupter. The results show that the separation between moving main contact and moving arcing contact will affect to decrease significantly the electric field strength of a moving arcing contact and an insulation cover, to increase slightly the electric field strength of a fixed arcing contact and to decrease consequently the dielectric recovery capability between poles of the interrupter.

Induction motor requires a rotating magnetic field for rotation. Current required to generate the rotating magnetic field is immediately magnetizing current. This magnetizing current is associated with the reactive power. Induction motor is always required reactive power. If reactive power is supplied only to the power supply side, the power factor is low. Therefore, it is to compensate the power factor by connecting capacitors in parallel to the motor terminal. If the capacitor current is greater than the magnetizing current of the motor, there is a possibility that the self-excitation occurs. High voltage generated by the self-excitation leads to insulation failure on the motor. So it is necessary to calculate the power factor correction capacitor capacity the most suitable to the extent that the magnetizing current does not exceed the capacitor current. In this study, we first computed the magnetization current and the reactive power of the induction motor and then calculates a limit of the maximum power factor by comparing the magnetizing current and the capacitor current installed in order to achieve the target power factor.

Recently, Nanotechnology becomes a major issue in most part of industries. Nanotechnology is expected to develop various application products due to nano material mired composites is improved physical and electrical properties compared to conventional composites materials. Dielectric and insulation materials need to develop and improve like other field about nanotechnology. In this paper, we reported dielectric dispersion by size(no filler, $1.2{\mu}m$, 500 nm, 10 nm), frequencies(60, 120, 1 kHz), and temperatures($30{\sim}170^{\circ}C$). Dielectric constant of composites materials with filler shows higher than composites materials without filler and increased depending on rising temperatures in low frequency region. It was the effect that nano-filler and impurities in composites contributed to electrical conductivity. And dielectric properties depending on temperatures shows to change in low frequency region dramatically We analyzed interfacial polarization in low frequency region($10^{-2}$ Hz) and oriented polarization in high frequency region($10^{-5{\sim}6}$ Hz) on composites materials.
The ever increasing popularity and acceptance in the market place of portable systems, such as cell phones, PDA, notebook PC, etc., are fueling effects in further miniaturizing and lowering power consumption in these systems. The dynamic power consumption due to the CPU activities and the static power consumption due to leakage currents are two major sources of power consumption. Smaller devices and a lower de voltage lead to reducing the power requirement, while better insulation and isolation of devices lead to reducing leakage currents. All these can be harnessed in the SOI (silicon-on-insulator) technology. In this study, the key aspects of the SOI technology, mainly device electrical properties and device processing steps, are briefly reviewed. The interesting materials issues, such as SOI structure formation and SOI wafer fabrication methods, are then surveyed. In particular, the recent technological innovations in two major SOI wafer fabrication methods, namely wafer bonding and SIMOX, are explored and compared in depth. The results of the study are nixed in that, although the quality of the SOI structures has shown great improvements, the processing steps are still found to be too complex. Between the two methods, no clear winner has yet emerged in terms of the product quality and cost considerations.
