  • The following paper proposes the new design of digital sine wave generator which allows users to define the phase shift of the out put sinewave according to user's demands. This new sinewave generator will have 2 outputs, cos(${\omega}_0n$) and cos(${\omega}_0n$+${\phi}$) The design of the new system starts from the construction of discrete time system with impulse response as cos(${\omega}_0n$) in a pair of conjugate complex poles and a pair of zeros at the origin and the real axis. If users want to make a phase shift of sign wave, users can change the position of zero at the real axis. The results of the experiment have shown that the new design of sign wave generator has generated sine wave with the correct phase shift according to the theory.

  • The nonlinear observers are proposed for a nonlinear system. To improve the characteristics such as stability, convergence, and $H^{\infty}$ filter performance criterion, we utilize an $H^{\infty}$ filter Riccati equation or a modified $H^{\infty}$ filter Riccati equation with a freedom parameter. Using the Lyapunov function method, the characteristics of the observers are analyzed. Then the in-flight alignment for a strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS) is designed using the proposed observer. And the additive quaternion error model is especially used to reduce the uncertainty of the SDINS error model. Simulation results show that the observer with the modified $H^{\infty}$ filter Riccati equation effectively improves the performance of the in-flight alignment.

  • This paper presents a new rotor resistance identification algorithm for induction motors. The algorithm is derived form the fact that the slip frequency given in the d-q rotating frame is equal to that measured in the x-y fixed frame. Rotor resistance varies greatly with the machine temperature. In certain cases, the rotor resistance can increase 100 % over its ambient or nominal value. This deteriorates the dynamic performance of vector control systems for induction motors. However, the control scheme proposed in this paper is robust with respect to variations in rotor resistance because an efficient identification algorithm for rotor resistance is employed. To illuminate the performance of the proposed controller further, the simulation results are presented.

  • In this paper, a blood vessel in an angiographic image, which plays an importance role in the diagnose diseases including in the eyes, brain and heart, is enhanced by using a directed diffusion technique. A fundamental component of the angiographic analysis is vessel segmentation that the proposed method provides a preprocessing of the image into a form suitable for human analysis, or more importantly, for machine analysis such the segmentation. Vessel enhancement is a challenging problem due to the complex nature of vascular trees and to imaging imperfections. Some parts of the inherent imperfections in angiography are the intensity inhomogeneity between the larger and smaller vessels, and another imperfection is the leakage of contrast agent into the background tissue that provides to low contrast between vessels and tissue. In the proposed scheme, the directed diffusion solves the problem by formulating a local geometric structure, which consists of direction and scale of the blood vessels. The diffusion process uses the local structure to enhance by a diffusivity tensor. The proposed algorithm can be applied to maintain sharpness and coherence-smooth the intra-regions into homogeneity better than traditional diffusion methods, which are Gaussian regulation and coherence enhancing diffusion.

  • In the cold rolling mill, coil breakage that generated in rolling process makes the various types of troubles such as the degradation of productivity and the damage of equipment. Recent researches were done by the mechanical analysis such as the analysis of roll chattering or strip inclining and the prevention of breakage that detects the crack of coil. But they could cover some kind of breakages. The prediction of Coil breakage was very complicated and occurred rarely. We propose to build effective prediction modes for coil breakage in rolling process, based on data mining model. We proposed three prediction models for coil breakage: (1) decision tree based model, (2) regression based model and (3) neural network based model. To reduce model parameters, we selected important variables related to the occurrence of coil breakage from the attributes of coil setup by using the methods such as decision tree, variable selection and the choice of domain experts. We developed these prediction models and chose the best model among them using SEMMA process that proposed in SAS E-miner environment. We estimated model accuracy by scoring the prediction model with the posterior probability. We also have developed a software tool to analyze the data and generate the proposed prediction models either automatically and in a user-driven manner. It also has an effective visualization feature that is based on PCA (Principle Component Analysis).

  • The benefit of data fusion in improving the performance of Higher Order Sliding Mode (HOSM) observer is brought out in this paper. This improvement in the performance of HOSM observer, resulted in the improvement of active vibration control of a piezo actuated structure, when controlled by a Discrete Sliding Mode Controller (DSMC). The structure is embedded with two piezo sensors for measuring the first two vibrating modes. The fused output of sensors is applied to the HOSM observer for generating state estimates, these states generated are applied to the DSMC, designed for the fourth order linear time invariant model of the structure. In the simulation study, the structure is excited at the first and second mode resonance. It is found that better vibration suppression is obtained, when the states generated by the fused output of sensors is applied as controller input, than the vibration suppression obtained by applying the states generated by using individual sensor output. The closed loop performance of DSMC obtained with HOSM observer is compared with the closed loop performance obtained with the conventional observer. Results obtained shows that better vibration suppression is obtained when the states generated by HOSM observer is applied as controller input.

  • Supervisory control is an approach based on formal language. it is used to model and control discrete event systems in which each discrete event process is represented as an automation. A supervisor is a generator that switches control patterns in such a way that a given discrete evenet process behaves in obedience to various constraints. A flexible manufacturing cell (FMC) is one of discrete evenet systems. Functions necessary for the operation of an FMC are characterized by operational components and informational compoments. The operational components can be modeled using the finite state machines and the informational components can be modeled using the abstract formalism which describes supporting operations of the cell controller. In this paper, we addressed function required for FMC control specification, software engineering aspects on FMC control based on supervisory control, a concept of event queue for resolving synchronization problem, and complexity reduction. Based on the mathematical model of an FMC. we synthesized the controller by integrating a supervisor for FMC with control specification that specifies event-driven operation of the cell controller. The proposed control scheme is stable mathematically so that the system always behaves on a controlled way even under the existence of uncontrollable events. Furthermore, using an event queue concept, we can solve a synchronization problem caused by the violation of instantaneity assumption of supervisory control theory in real life situation. And also, we can propotype a control software rapidly due to the modularity of the proposed control scheme.

  • Several Generation IV nuclear reactor concepts have goals for optimizing investment recovery through phased introduction of multiple units on a common site with shared facilities and/or reconfigurable energy conversion systems. Additionally, small modular reactors are suitable for remote deployment to support highly localized microgrids in isolated, underdeveloped regions. The long-term economic viability of these advanced reactor plants depends on significant reductions in plant operations and maintenance costs. To accomplish these goals, intelligent control and diagnostic capabilities are needed to provide nearly autonomous operations with anticipatory maintenance. A nearly autonomous control system should enable automatic operation of a nuclear power plant while adapting to equipment faults and other upsets. It needs to have many intelligent capabilities, such as diagnosis, simulation, analysis, planning, reconfigurability, self-validation, and decision. These capabilities have been the subject of research for many years, but an autonomous control system for nuclear power generation remains as-yet an unrealized goal. This article describes a functional framework for intelligent, autonomous control that can facilitate the integration of control, diagnostic, and decision-making capabilities to satisfy the operational and performance goals of power plants based on multimodular advanced reactors.

  • We propose new time-frequency (TF) tools for analyzing linear time-varying (LTV) systems and nonstationary random processes showing hyperbolic TF structure. Obtained through hyperbolic warping the narrowband Weyl symbol (WS) and spreading function (SF) in frequency, the new TF tools are useful for analyzing LTV systems and random processes characterized by hyperbolic time shifts. This new TF symbol, called the hyperbolic WS, satisfies the hyperbolic time-shift covariance and scale covariance properties, and is useful in wideband signal analysis. Using the new, hyperbolic time-shift covariant WS and 2-D TF kernels, we provide a formulation for the hyperbolic time-shift covariant TF symbols, which are 2-D smoothed versions of the hyperbolic WS. We also propose a new interpretation of linear signal transformations as weighted superposition of hyperbolic time shifted and scale changed versions of the signal. Application examples in signal analysis and detection demonstrate the advantages of our new results.

  • It is very difficult to design an underwater communication system because of multipath, Doppler effects, noise, and attenuation. These factors lead to errors in the communication performance and maximum propagation distance. In this study, we calculate the distance that can be realized using the direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) technique with direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) in an underwater communication system considering only the attenuation and noise. We also compare the estimated and calculated propagation distances obtained for several different scenarios.
