FAULT DETECTION COVERAGE QUANTIFICATION OF AUTOMATIC TEST FUNCTIONS OF DIGITAL I&C SYSTEM IN NPPS

  • Analog instrument and control systems in nuclear power plants have recently been replaced with digital systems for safer and more efficient operation. Digital instrument and control systems have adopted various fault-tolerant techniques that help the system correctly and safely perform the specific required functions regardless of the presence of faults. Each fault-tolerant technique has a different inspection period, from real-time monitoring to monthly testing. The range covered by each faulttolerant technique is also different. The digital instrument and control system, therefore, adopts multiple barriers consisting of various fault-tolerant techniques to increase the total fault detection coverage. Even though these fault-tolerant techniques are adopted to ensure and improve the safety of a system, their effects on the system safety have not yet been properly considered in most probabilistic safety analysis models. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an evaluation method that can describe these features of digital instrument and control systems. Several issues must be considered in the fault coverage estimation of a digital instrument and control system, and two of these are addressed in this work. The first is to quantify the fault coverage of each fault-tolerant technique implemented in the system, and the second is to exclude the duplicated effect of fault-tolerant techniques implemented simultaneously at each level of the system's hierarchy, as a fault occurring in a system might be detected by one or more fault-tolerant techniques. For this work, a fault injection experiment was used to obtain the exact relations between faults and multiple barriers of faulttolerant techniques. This experiment was applied to a bistable processor of a reactor protection system.

  • SFFS(Solid Freeform Fabrication System) is commercializing to rapid prototyping concept in world-wide some corporations including the States, have much technological problems yet and need new mode for agile solid freeform fabrication as well as prototyping. In this paper, we design an automatic control algorithm that the cutting path of laser beam, on the SFFS, is controlled with constant speed. The designed algorithm for constant-speed path control is implemented and experimented in the $CAFL^{VM}$ (Computer Aided Fabrication of Lamination for Various Material) system, the new SFFS which is developed in this paper. Its process is an automated fabrication method in which a 3D object is constructed from STL(SToreoLithography) 2D data, derived from CAD 3D image, by sequentially laminating the part cross-sections. The constant-speed path control is started from the STL data. After STL file is modified in data format to be available for control. The fabrication of the 2D part is, with constant speed, conducted from the 23 position data by laser beam. we confirm its high-performance through experiment results from the application into $CAFL^{VM}$ system.

  • This paper proposes the method that estimate optimally the parameters of Fuzzy-PID controller using genetic Algorithm. The controller is desined with the proposed method, and then is applied to 3-phase induction motor. Simulation results show that proposed method is more excellent then FPID and PID.

  • This paper presents the characteristic simulation of PM-type magnetic circuit breaker with the 2D finite element magnetic field solution including non-linearity of the material and an eddy current. Change of dynamic characteristic of the actuator is quantified from the finite element analysis. The results obtained from a commercial finite element analysis software are compared with those calculated from the developed finite element analysis software. A new modified model to decrease the eddy current is proposed. The characteristics of the two models are compared.

  • A power control and distribution unit(PCDU) plays roles of protection of battery against overcharge by active control of solar array generated power, distribution of unregulated electrical power via controlled outlets to bus and instrument units, distribution of regulated electrical power to selected bus and instrument units, and provision of status monitoring and telecommand interface allowing the system and ground operate the power system, evaluate its performance and initiate appropriate countermeasures in case of abnormal conditions. In this work, we perform the preliminary design of a PCDU scheme for the small LEO Satellite applications. The main constitutes of the PCDU are the battery interface module, the auxiliary supply modules, solar array regulators with maximum power point tracking(MPPT) technology, heater power distribution modules, internal converter modules for regulated bus voltage generation. and instrument power distribution modules.

  • The usefulness of the magnetic camera for non-destructive testing of aging aircraft is discussed in this paper. The magnetic camera can be used f magnetic particle testing(MT), magnetic flux leakage testing(MFLT), eddy current testing(ECT) and penetration testing(PT). It measures the distribution of a magnetic field and visualizes the magnetic pattern. Near and far side cracks, fatigue, thickness degradation, and cracks under rivets have been detected. The possibility of quantitative evaluation was also examined. Using indirect experiments, we verified the detection ability of the sensor for cracks in titanium and advanced composite materials.

  • To verify correct operation of measuring instruments, we request the verification of measuring instrument to the agency that holds inspection devices. This works requires time and cost to the company. For this reason. We proposed "Smart Network Interface Card Model" for remote control of measuring instruments. Our model based on Web adapter, can add, delete and change the program to an existing web adapter from remote system. Furthermore, more than one program can be loaded, and can be updated from the remote system of internet. And also we can change the verification requirement of measuring instrument, hence it makes more good quality and competitive power of instruments.

  • Virtual Laboratory is the new concept in the field of Control & Measurement as network technology development, it is used in many university and institute nowadays. It is possible to control and measure the instrument in anywhere, anytime by the use of Virtual Laboratory and we can raise the efficiency of experiment. In this paper, we review the concept and necessity of Virtual Laboratory at first and discuss about how we can implement Virtual Laboratory. Then we design framework of Client-Server based Virtual Laboratory fur operating of remote instrument through network, and finally we suggest system model of Virtual Laboratory capable of controlling & monitoring of instrument.
