  • Six sigma is a management innovation strategy which improves all managerial processes in an integrated manner, Six sigma can be applied to every aspect of managerial functions such as marketing, engineering, purchasing, accounting, and so on. Six sigma is trying to solve quality problems from the customer's viewpoint in the scientific manner, thus maximizing profits through the elimination of quality costs. This paper is presented to verify empirically the successful factors of implementing six sigma through the survey of blackbelts of Korean firms. The bluechip companies in Korea and across the world have already adopted Six Sigma, and it is becoming an integral part of the corporate culture of these companies. In conclusion, the most important factors to the success of six sigma are found to be the leadership of top management, and the compensation/ incentive system. The analysis also shows that the important factors are different in terms of both the process type and implementing stage.

  • This study was conducted to examine the chemical composition of kiwifruit skin, and to est its anti-microbial activities and cytotoxicities, thus, exploring ways for the economic utilization of kiwifruit skin. Four varieties of kiwifruit were examined: Daeheung, Bidan, Haegeum No.1 and Hayward. Vitamin C content in the fruit skins of Bidan, Daeheung, Haegeum No.1 and Hayward were 72.44, 67.22, 62.51 and 61.44mg/100g, respectively. Total amino acids content in the fruit skins of Bidan, Haegeum No.1, Hayward and Daeheung ere 808.31, 706.02, 629.07 and 464.83mg/100g dry weight, respectively. K and Ca content ere $17.20-45.70{\mu}g/mL$ and $4.58-10.15{\mu}g/mL$. While, other inorganic matter contents were below $4.89{\mu}g/mL$. Anti-microbial activity of kiwifruit skin extracts, in terms of the diameter of inhibition zone when tested against five gram positive and three gram negative microbial trains (even in the concentration of 2,000mg/L), was less than 14.1mm. The hyperplasia inhibition of lung cancer cells by methanol extracts from Bidan and Haegeum No.1 using concentrations of 800mg/L were 27.7% and 14.5%, however, those from Daeheung and Hayward were below 3% Consequently, it will be useful to know that kiwifruit skin can be added to processed goods which demand for higher concentrations of vitamin C, amino acids, K and Ca.

  • The recently published papers and essays regarding 'tectonic' bring us to rumination of its importance on comprehending modern architectural process. Many architectural theorists may seem to seek the substance of architecture through the discussion of 'tectonic' for the purpose of overcoming the dilemma of representation which can be easily found in modern architectural forms. Their emphasizing on its double-faced aspect as the manner of representation, that is semantic and aesthetic, may imply the significance of philosophical approach especially to the recent architectural phenomena. From this point, it ought to be meaningful to manifest etymological connection between the terms with semantic analysis and interpret the substance and ontological meaning of 'tectonic' referring Martin Heidegger's existential philosophy. Besides the works of Carlo Scarpa, that are known as the art of making, are exampled to prove the way how the ontological meaning of practical act is exposed on an artwork. The idea of 'tectonic' connotes not only technological aspect as construction of form and space, but also ontological aspect as joint or detail, that is the result of logos. The 'tectonic' means etymologically 'joint' having double-meaning structure, technology and aesthetics. It means 'detail' as minimum units of architectural form and as sites where making relationship or connection takes place in the way of ontological apprehension. The 'detail' as the place of innovation and invention implies the culture of an area, and expresses craftsmanship, which modem architecture buries in oblivion. This study aims to deviate from the aesthetical commercialization in which the modern architecture tends to fall, and further, propose the possible way to succeed traditional locality in an epistemological point of view.

  • Humane entrepreneurship is defined as "the pursuit of entrepreneurial growth and humane development for opportunity realization and sustainable organization." In this study, we evaluate and compare 19 countries by the degree to which 'humane entrepreneurship' is realized or emphasized. This study compares two factors of humane entrepreneurship, enterprise cycle and humane cycle, between different countries and examines a balance between the two. To make country-by-country comparison along humane entrepreneurship, we adopted Sethia and von Glinow's (1985) organizational culture model, which originated from Blake and Mouton's (1964) managerial grid model. Here, enterprise cycle and humane cycle of humane entrepreneurship correspond to concern for performance and concern for people. We suggest that keeping balance between humane cycle and enterprise cycle is important, because humane entrepreneurship is an internal condition for firm growth.

  • The furniture industry of the northern region of Gyeonggi Province consists of several regional complexes which was just autogenously, that is, not based on the organized and planned movements cultivated and clustered, so it stays small businesses. This fact certainly requires to find right courses for future policy direction, in order to develop the furniture industry centering in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province internationally competitive. Consequently the aim of the present study was to investigate the characteristics of the furniture industry in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province first and to present right development directions for the innovation of the structure of furniture industry according to the change of the times, i.e. to connect the industry, university and the authorities concerned well and to strengthen the technology level of furniture industry accordingly. In addition, this requires education and training of the excellent designers being able to create high added-value industrial sectors, including finding a new Korean national brand which should preoccupy the global market. Furthermore, the high-tech furniture industrial complex specialized in manufacture, distribution and marketing such as the division of work between business to business should be built and finally a Korean traditional & unique furniture culture should be created on the basis of a cultural approach of furniture industry. It would be the timing for entire business sectors related to Korea's furniture industry to establish an international standard certification like ISO, in order to upgrade the quality of furniture steadily while keeping our own tradition, and this belongs to a meaningful attempt for the high-tech lifestyles and the improvement in the quality of life of customers.

  • This study was conducted to examine the distribution status, the physicochemical composition, and the physiological activity of Spergularia marina grown in the western region in Jeon-Ra-Nam-Do, looking for its potential as a local specialty goods. The amount sold of Spergularia marina to different areas from a rural market place was examined during April, 2008. The proportions of Spergularia marina are as follows; Yeongam(30.5%), Muan(24.3%), Naju(20.3%), Hampyeong(18.0%), and Haenam(7.0%), which were shown higher than those of Pimpinella brachycarpa. Total vitamin C and total chlorophyll contents in Spergularia marina were 68.61mg/100g DW and 58.11mg/g DW, respectively. Total amino acid contents were 331.94mg/100g DW and 20 kinds of amino acids were separated and classified. The contents of inorganic matters in Spergularia marina were as follows; Na(64.23mg/L), Mg(15.88mg/L) K(9.99mg/L), Ca(3.83mg/L). The total phenol and the total flavonoid contents of methanol extracts from Spergularia marina were 41.7mg/L and 18.9mg/L, respectively, with an extracting concentration of 2,000mg/L. The nitrite scavenging activity was highest (83.4%) in hot water extract. These results may be useful as basic data for using Spergularia marina as a local specialty goods.
