The advantages of the common rail fuel injection system architecture have been recognized since the development of the diesel engine. In common rail systems, a high-pressure pump stores a reservoir of fuel at high pressure up to and above 2000 bar. And solenoid or piezoelectric valves make possible fine electronic control over the fuel injection time and quantity, and the higher pressure that the common rail technology makes available provides better fuel atomization. In this study, the direct needle-driven piezo injector was investigated for accomplishing injection pressure of 1800 bar by optimal design by simplification of component and changing number of springs and plates of DPI. It was found that a direct needle-driven piezo injection system features the prototype DPI for passenger vehicle to operate at 1800 bar of injection pressure.
The purpose of this study is to compare the injection and spray characteristics of single-hole GDI injectors using injection rate and mie-scattering spray images. Five types of single-hole injectors with different nozzle hole diameters were used, and the spray rate, spray tip penetration, spray area, and spray width were analyzed. As a result, the diameter of the nozzle hole had a direct effect on the injection and spray characteristics. It was confirmed that the larger the diameter of the nozzle hole, the higher the injection quantity, the spray tip penetration, the spray area, and the spray width. In addition, it was confirmed that the near-field spray, which has little influence of ambient air, has a great correlation with the injection rate.
Low temperature combustion regime for the simultaneous reduction of nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) and paticulate matter (PM) is demonstrated in single cylinder engine at various operating parameters, such as EGR rate, injection timing, EGR temperature, amount of fuel and swirl rate. Low temperature combustion is accomplished by high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate in this study. Generally, the emission of $NO_x$ almost completely disappears and PM significantly increases in the first decreasing regime of oxygen concentration but after peaking about 10~12% oxygen concentration, PM then decreases regardless of fuel injection quantity. Low temperature combustion regime was extended by low EGR temperature, high injection pressure and low amount of fuel.

The effects of a WI(Water Injection) at the intake Pipe and an urea injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine were investigated experimentally The water quantity was controlled by temperature of intake manifold and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). In addition, the urea quantify was controlled by NOx quantify and MAF. Effects of WI system, urea-SCR system and tandem system were investigated for with and without EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation). As the results. the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and NOx map were obtained. In addition, NOx results can be visualized with engine speed and engine load. It was concluded. therefore, that the NOx reduction effects of the tandem system without the EGR were more than those with the EGR base engine.
Recently it has been focused that the automobile engine has developed in a strong upward tendency for the use of the high viscosity and poorer quality fuels in achieving the high performance, fuel economy, and emission reduction. Therefore it is not easy to solve the problems between low specific fuel consumption, and exhaust emission control at automotive engine In this study, it is designed and used the test bed which is installed with fuel injector controller. In addition to equipped engine using CRDI by controlling the injection timing with modulator, it has tested and analyzed the engine cycle variation characteristics, as it is varied that they are the operating parameters: fuel injected quantity, injection timing, engine speed and scavenging pressure.
This study shows the correlation between $NO_x$ emission in the exhaust gas and various operation factors of dual fuel engine for Co-generation system. General tendency was shown that the thermal efficiency was lowered by the change of operation factors. However these were not confirmed on this experiment. Increasing T4 temperature (exhaust gas temperature at turbo-charger inlet) reduces $NO_x$ emission rate. The higher T4 temperature requires lower excess air as the excess air ratio is controlled by T4 temperature on gas mode operation. Another tendency was that $NO_x$ emission rate is reduced in case of increasing boost air temperature, quantity of pilot oil or bypassing flue gas through the exhaust gas boiler. The diameter of the fuel injection nozzle was changed smaller than design value and the injection timing was readjusted. Thus $NO_x$ emission rate could be reduced as retarding injection timing and changing hole diameter of fuel injection nozzle, however maxium engine out-put was decreased by changing fuel nozzle on the diesel mode operation.
When methane hydrate is artificially formed to store and transport large quantity of natural gas, its reaction time may be too long and the gas consumption in water becomes relatively low, the reaction rate between water and methane gas is low. Therefore, the present investigation focuses on the rapid production of hydrates and increases the gas consumption by injecting water into methane gas utilizing nozzle. the hydrate in water injection using a nozzle formed rapidly more than that in gas injection, and the gas consumption of methane hydrate in water injection is about three to four times greater than that in gas injection according to subcooling.
For the practical use of a fuel injection system using solenoid, some mechanical and electrical problems should be explicitly analyzed. In our study, we have investigated these problems experimentally and have improved such that a solenoid driving circuit is liable to establish a fast reponse and a precise control of injection quantity. This proposed fuel injecton system is capable to control equivalence ratio from low level to high level. Therefore, we expect that this proposed system should be applicable to an actual engine.
The solenoid actuated hydrogen injector and the capacitive peak-hold type driving circuit were designed and made, and the hydrogen supply system for in-cylinder injection was constructed with these. The performance of the injector was investigated through measuring the pintle lift profiles and the injection quantities, and the performance of the hydrogen supply system was confirmed through the experiments at the single cylinder engine. The injection quantity increased linearly as the duration of driving signal increased. At the single cylinder engine, the hydrogen injector was operated stably. The hydrogen flow rate of the injector with the peak-hold type driving circuit could be controlled precisely at high engine speed or low load condition only with the variation of signal duration.
Powder injection molding (PIM) uses the shaping advantage of injection molding but is applicable to metals and ceramics. This process combines a small quantity of polymer with an inorganic powder to form a feedstock that can be molded. After shaping, the polymeric binder is extracted and the powder is sintered, often to near-theoretical densities. According1y, PIM delivers structural materials in a shaping technology previously restricted to polymers. The process overcomes the shape limitations of traditional powder compaction, the costs of machining, the productivity limits of isostatic pressing and slip casting, and the defect and tolerance limitations of conventional casting. Since 1980s when major attention was given to PIM process, it has been widening the application area from small parts with complex shape and tailored properties to structural parts requiring strength and ductility as in automotive, military and medical industries.
