Flexibly-reconfigurable roll forming (FRRF) is a novel sheet metal forming technology conducive to producing multi-curvature surfaces by controlling the strain distribution along longitudinal direction. In FRRF, a sheet metal is shaped into the desired curvature by using reconfigurable rollers and gaps between the rollers. As FRRF technology and equipment are under development, a simulation model corresponding to the physical FRRF would aid in investigating how the shape of a sheet varies with input parameters. To facilitate the investigation, the current study exploits regression analysis to construct a predictive model for the longitudinal curvature of the sheet. Variables considered as input parameters are sheet compression ratio, radius of curvature in the transverse direction, and initial blank width. Samples were generated by a three-level, three-factor full factorial design, and both convex and saddle curvatures are represented by a quadratic regression model with two-factor interactions. The fitted quadratic equations were verified numerically with R-squared values and root mean square errors.

Flexibly-reconfigurable roll forming (FRRF) is a novel sheet metal forming technology conducive to produce multi-curvature surfaces by controlling strain distribution along longitudinal direction. Reconfigurable rollers could be arranged to implement a kind of punch die set. By utilizing these reconfigurable rollers, desired curved surface can be formed. In FRRF process, three-dimensional surface is formed from two-dimensional curve. Thus, it is difficult to predict the forming result. In this study, a regression analysis was suggested to construct a predictive model for a longitudinal curvature of FRRF process. To facilitate investigation, input parameters affecting the longitudinal curvature of FRRF were determined as maximum compression value, curvature radius in the transverse direction, and initial blank width. Three-factor three-level full factorial experimental design was utilized and 27 experiments using FRRF apparatus were performed to obtain sample data of the regression model. Regression analysis was carried out using experimental results as sample data. The model used for regression analysis was a quadratic nonlinear regression model. Determination factor and root mean square root error were calculated to confirm the conformity of this model. Through goodness of fit test, this regression predictive model was verified.

This paper describes a research work of developing computer-aided design of lead frame, semiconductor, with blanking operation which is very precise for progressive working. Approach to the system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from pasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. This system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD using a personal computer and in I-DEAS Drafting Programming Language on the I-DEAS Master Series Drafting with Workstation, HP9000/715(64). Transference of data between AutoCAD and I-DEAS Master Series Drafting is accomplished by DXF(drawing exchange format) and IGES(initial graphics exchange specification) methods. This system is composed of five modules, which are input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip-layout, data-conversion and die-layout modules. The process planning and Die design system is designed by considering several factors, such as complexities of blank geometry, punch profiles, and the availability of a press equipment and standard parts. This system provides its efficiecy for strip-layout, and die design for lead frame, semiconductor.

A procedure has be developed to optimize the product's tipping position in designing a die face for manufacturing automobile outer panels. Two design requirements are considered in optimizing the tipping position. One is to satisfy that all the points on the product should have a uniform distribution of drawing depths. The other is to guarantee that the user-specified area on the product should first contact with the binder wrap. The problem to satisfy the design requirements described above is analogous to the flatness calculation problem in the area of metrology if some constraints can be imposed. Thus the problem can be solved by the simulated annealing method, which is one of the optimization methods. The developed procedure was tested with the real die face design problem and the usefulness was verified by the diagram of the drawing depth.
The process design for large-scale ring rolling of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was performed by calculation method, processing map approach and FEM simulation. The ring rolling design includes geometry design and optimization of process variables. The calculation method was used to make geometry design such as initial billet and blank sizes, and final rolled ring shape. A commercial FEM code, SHAPE-RR was used to simulate the effect of process variables in ring rolling on the distribution of the internal state variables such as strain, strain rate and temperature. In order to predict the forming defects during ring rolling and the formation of over-heating above $\beta$-transus temperature due to deformation heating, the process-map approach based on Ziegler's instability criterion was used with FEM simulation. Finally, an optimum process design to obtain sound Ti-6Al-4V rings without forming defects was suggested through combined approach of Ziegler's instability map and FEM simulation results.
An improved derivative thermometric titration apparatus designed around operational amplifiers is described which is capable of monitoring the small temperature change and of computing the derivatives for accentuation of the titration end point that is difficult to locate by extrapolation methods. The instrument is constructed of four commercial operational amplifiers. A use of dummy cell provides the subtraction means for compensation of the initial temperature and random temperature fluctuations with a resultant gain in signal-to-noise ratio. The successive differentiation action of the computer has been nearly "perfect," so that the two breaks (blank or starting and end point of the titration curve can be located with the precision of 0.2% by observing two peak points on the second derivative curve. Arrangements useful in obtaining such a good derivative response that is exactly proportional to the input signal are discussed. Plots of the enthalphogram and its derivatives are presented, with the results of several titrations used to evaluate the performance of the apparatus.
High-density UMo/Zr monolithic nuclear fuel plates have a promising application prospect in high flux research and test reactors. The solid state welding method called co-rolling is used for their fabrication. Hot co-rolling simulations for the composite blanks of UMo/Zr monolithic nuclear fuel plates are performed. The effects of coupon sizes and mechanical property parameters on the contact pressures between the to-be-bonded surfaces are investigated and analyzed. The numerical simulation results indicate that 1) the maximum contact pressures between the fuel coupon and the Zircaloy cover exist near the central line along the plate length direction; as a whole the contact pressures decrease toward the edges in the plate width direction; and lower contact pressures appear at a large zone near the coupon corner, where de-bonding is easy to take place in the in-pile irradiation environments; 2) the maximum contact pressures between the fuel coupon and the Zircaloy parts increase with the initial coupon thickness; after reaching a certain thickness value, the contact pressures hardly change, which was mainly induced by the complex deformation mechanism and special mechanical constitutive relation of fuel coupon; 3) softer fuel coupon will result in lower contact pressures and form interfaces being more out-of-flatness.
To investigate the evolution of deformation texture in dual phase (DP) steels during deep-drawing deformation, deep-drawing experiments were performed. Microtexture measurements were conducted using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) to analyze texture evolution. A rate-sensitive polycrystal model was used to predict texture evolution during deep-drawing deformation. In order to evaluate the strain path during deep-drawing deformation, a steady state was assumed in the flange part of a deep-drawn cup. A ratesensitive polycrystal model successfully predicted the texture evolution in DP steels during deep-drawing deformation. The final stable orientations were found to be strongly dependent on the initial location in the blank. Texture analysis revealed that the deep drawability of DP steels decreases as the true strain in the radial direction of the deep-drawn cup increases during deep-drawing deformation.
This study was performed to examine the use of NaOCl as an alternative antimicrobial compound in winemaking because of the potential health problems that may arise as a result of the use of $SO_2$. For this, the blank (non-treated), control ($SO_2$-added), and sample (NaOCl-treated) wines were made, and microbial and chemical changes including sensory characteristics were analyzed during the fermentation periods. Treatment of grapes with NaOCl decreased the initial contaminating microbial population in grape must, resulting in higher growth of yeast and lactic acid bacteria. After 200 days of fermentation, the chemical analysis of sample wine revealed that it had higher ethanol content, redness ($a^*$), and concentrations of fruity ester compounds and lower total acidity than the control. In the sensory analyses, the sample wine obtained a higher overall acceptability score (5.70) than the control (4.26). This result reveals that NaOCl can be used as an alternative to $SO_2$ in winemaking for inhibiting the growth of contaminating microorganisms.
The hot curvature-forming of large aluminum thick plate using a grid-typed hybrid die is a process for the production of a spherical LNG tank. Many variables such as the initial die surface quality, grid size, grid thickness, size of blank plate and cooling line design, control the success of the process. In addition, the plate used in this process is generally larger than $10{\times}10m$ in size. Thus, it is very difficult to predict the surface characteristics of the plate during forming and to measure the different parameters due to the high cost of the experiments. In order to optimize the process design for the grid-type die, the development of an analytical method to predict the surface characteristics of the final product in hot curvature-forming is needed. This paper described the development of the method and procedures for FE simulations of the hot curvature-forming process, including hot forming, air flow, cooling, and thermal deformation analyses. An experiment for a small scale model of the process was conducted to check the validity of the numerical method. The results showed that the curvature of the plate in the analysis agrees well with that of the experiment within 0.037 and 0.016% tolerance margins for its side and corner, respectively.
