  • The formation behavior of a passive state film on the surface of STS304 in electrolytic solution was analyzed to determine its metallic ion composition. The properties of passive state films vary depending on the Fe and Cr ions in the electrolytic solution. It was observed that the passive state film surface became flat and glossy as the concentration of Fe and Cr ions in the electrolytic solution increased. The corrosion resistance property of the passive state film was proportional to the amount of Fe and Cr in the electrolytic solution. An initial passive state film with high Fe concentration was formed on the surface of STS304 during early electrolytic polishing. Osmotic pressure of Fe ions occurs between the passive state film and electrolytic solution due to the Fe ion concentration gradient. The Fe in the passive state film is dissolved into the electrolyte, and Cr fills up the Fe ion vacancies. As a result, a good corrosion-resistant floating film was formed. The more Fe ions in the electrolytic solution, the faster the film is formed, and as a result, a flat passive state film containing a large amount of Cr can be formed.

  • The aim of this work is to determine the quasi-static thermal stresses of an infinitely long circular cylinder having constant initial temperature under steady-state field. The arbitrary heat flux is applied on the lower surface and the upper surface of the cylinder is at initial temperature. The fixed circular edge is thermally insulated. The results are obtained in series form in terms of Bessel's functions. These have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically.

  • Conversion of energy from potential to kinetic form is considered when a step-like initial disturbance is released to reach a final steady state. For small amplitute disturbances, linearization can be made and it is proved analytically that the conversion factor (ratio of generated kinetic to loss in potential energies) asymptotically approaches to 1/3 as the horizontal scale of disturbances becomes large.

  • In this paper, the feedback linearization technique is used with the sliding mode control for nonlinear system. The combination of these two control techniques can be achieved by proposing a novel sliding surface which has the nonminal dynamics of the original system controlled by feedback linearization technique. The noble design of the sliding surface is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial sliding function equal to zero

  • This paper is concerned with distributed INGRES database system. The main motivation is to provide dynamic reconfiguration and global database consistency. Dynamic reconfiguration will provide proper initial environment to newly generated system. By use of transaction characteristic, database can be maintained in consistent state.

  • In order to investigate dynamic behaviors of marine cables under wave and earthquake forces a geometric nonlinear. F, E formulation of marine cables is presented and tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the isoparametric cable element are derived, The initial equilibrium state of cables subjected to self -weights and current forces is determined and free vibration and dynamic nonlinear analysis of cable structures under additional environmental loads are performed based on the initial configuration Challenging examples are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate dynamic nonlinear behaviors of marine cables.

  • This paper describes compensation method to evaluate arousal level in different initial arousal state. Arousal level was measured by the relationship between IRI and Nz. The value of Nz is affected by BI which is variable with initial drowsiness. we introduced a correction factor to compensate these differences.

  • Global and local memory functions, defined by Quack and Troe, were calculated for the rotationally inelastic collision of O + SO(v, j)→ [O--S--O]→O + SO(v, j'). It is seen to decrease steadily as total energy increases. Distribution of scattering cross section over product rotational states also shows the decreasing memory of initial state as total energy is increased. These results are interpreted in terms of energy scrambling at high energy due to the availability of more phase space and also the influence of strong dynamical constraints.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a linear reservoir model with Kalman filter using Kalman filter theory which removes a physical uncertainty of :ainfall-runoff process. A linear reservoir model, which is the basic model of Kalman filter, is used to calculate runoff from rainfall in river basin. A linear reservoir model with Kalman filter is composed of a state-space model using a system model and a observation model. The state-vector of system model in linear. The average value of the ordinate of IUH for a linear reservoir model with Kalman filter is used as the initial value of state-vector. A .linear reservoir model with Kalman filter shows better results than those by linear reserevoir model, and decreases a physical uncertainty of rainfall-runoff process in river basin.

  • This paper presents the sliding mode observer-model following (SMO-MF) power system stabilizer(PSS) for unmeasurable state variables. This SMO-MF PSS is obtained by combining the sliding mode-model following (SM-MF) including closed-loop feedback(CLF) with the full-order observer(FOO). The control input of the proposed MO-MF PSS is derived by Lyapunov's second method to determine a control input that keeps the system stable for unmeasurable plant state variables. Simulation results show that the proposed SMO-MF PSS including CLF is able to reduce the low frequency oscillation and to achieve asymptotic tracking error between the reference mode state and the estimated plant state at different initial conditions.
