This paper discusses a searching method for special markers attached with persons in a surveillance video stream. The marker is a small plate with infrared LEDs, which is called a spatiotemporal marker because it shows a 2-D sequential pattern synchronized with video frames. The search is based on the motion vectors which is the same as one in video compression. The experiments using prototype markers show that the proposed method is practical. Though the method is applicable to a video stream independently, it can decrease total computation cost if motion vector analyses of a video compression and the proposed method is unified.
We have developed a control electronics system for an infrared detector array of KASINICS (KASI Near Infrared Camera System), which is a new ground-based instrument of the Korea Astronomy and Space science Institute (KASI). Equipped with a $512{\times}512$ InSb array (ALADDIN III Quadrant, manufactured by Raytheon) sensitive from 1 to $5{\mu}m$, KASINICS will be used at J, H, Ks, and L-bands. The controller consists of DSP(Digital Signal Processor), Bias, Clock, and Video boards which are installed on a single VME-bus backplane. TMS320C6713DSP, FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array), and 384-MB SDRAM(Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) are included in the DSP board. DSP board manages entire electronics system, generates digital clock patterns and communicates with a PC using USB 2.0 interface. The clock patterns are downloaded from a PC and stored on the FPGA. UART is used for the communication with peripherals. Video board has 4 channel ADC which converts video signal into 16-bit digital numbers. Two video boards are installed on the controller for ALADDIN array. The Bias board provides 16 dc bias voltages and the Clock board has 15 clock channels. We have also coded a DSP firmware and a test version of control software in C-language. The controller is flexible enough to operate a wide range of IR array and CCD. Operational tests of the controller have been successfully finished using a test ROIC (Read-Out Integrated Circuit).

In this paper, we present an optimal threshold setting method for flame detection of infrared thermal image. Conventional infrared flame detection methods used fixed intensity threshold to segment candidate flame regions and further processing is performed to decide correct flame detection. So flame region segmentation step using the threshold is important processing for fire detection algorithm. The threshold should be change in input image depends on camera types and operation conditions. We have analyzed the conventional thresholds composed of fixed-intensity, average, standard deviation, maximum value. Finally, we extracted that the optimal threshold value is more than summation of average and standard deviation, and less than maximum value. it will be enhance flame detection rate than conventional fixed-threshold method.

A small infrared image homing system is a tracking system that has an infrared image sensor that identifies a target through the day and night infrared image processing of the target on the ground and searches for and detects the target with respect to the main target. This paper describes the development of a board equipped with a high-speed CPU and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to identify target through real-time image processing by acquiring target information through infrared image. We propose a CPU-FPGA combining architecture for CPU and FPGA selection and video signal processing, and also describe a controller design using FPGA to control infrared sensor.

This paper proposed an adaptive threshold method for detecting flame candidate regions in a infrared image and it adapts according to the contrast and intensity changes in the image. Conventional flame detection systems uses fixed threshold method since surveillance environment does not change, once the system installed. But it needs a adaptive threshold method as requirements of surveillance system has changed. The proposed adaptive threshold algorithm uses the dynamic behavior of flame as featured parameter. The test result is analysed by comparing test result of proposed adaptive threshold algorithm and conventional fixed threshold method. The analysed data shows, the proposed method has 91.42% of correct detection rate and false detection is reduced by 20% comparing to the conventional method.
In this paper, we propose a flame detection method using Haar wavelet and moving averages in outdoor infrared video sequences. Our proposed method is composed of three steps which are Haar wavelet decomposition, flame candidates detection, and their tracking and flame classification. In Haar wavelet decomposition, each frame is decomposed into 4 sub- images(LL, LH, HL, HH), and also computed high frequency energy components using LH, HL, and HH. In flame candidates detection, we compute a binary image by thresholding in LL sub-image and apply morphology operations to the binary image to remove noises. After finding initial boundaries, final candidate regions are extracted using expanding initial boundary regions to their neighborhoods. In tracking and flame classification, features of region size and high frequency energy are calculated from candidate regions and tracked using queues, and we classify whether the tracked regions are flames by temporal changes of moving averages.

Effect and robust detection of targets in infrared images has crucial meaning for many applications, such as infrared guidance, early warning, and video surveillance. However, it is not an easy task due to the special characteristics of the infrared images, in which the background clutters are severe and the targets are weak. The recent literature demonstrates that sparse representation can help handle the detection problem, however, the detection performance should be improved. To this end, in this text, a hybrid method based on local sparse representation and contrast is proposed, which can effectively and robustly detect the infrared targets. First, a residual image is calculated based on local sparse representation for the original image, in which the target can be effectively highlighted. Then, a local contrast based method is adopted to compute the target prediction image, in which the background clutters can be highly suppressed. Subsequently, the residual image and the target prediction image are combined together adaptively so as to accurately and robustly locate the targets. Based on a set of comprehensive experiments, our algorithm has demonstrated better performance than other existing alternatives.

Visible-infrared image fusion is a process of synthesizing an infrared image and a visible image into a fused image. This process synthesizes the complementary advantages of both images. The infrared image is able to capture a target object in dark or foggy environments. However, the utility of the infrared image is hindered by the blurry appearance of objects. On the other hand, the visible image clearly shows an object under normal lighting conditions, but it is not ideal in dark or foggy environments. In this paper, we propose a multi-guided filter and a real-time image fusion method. The proposed multi-guided filter is a modification of the guided filter for multiple guidance images. Using this filter, we propose a real-time image fusion method. The speed of the proposed fusion method is much faster than that of conventional image fusion methods. In an experiment, we compare the proposed method and the conventional methods in terms of quantity, quality, fusing speed, and flickering artifacts. The proposed method synthesizes 57.93 frames per second for an image size of $320{\times}270$. Based on our experiments, we confirmed that the proposed method is able to perform real-time processing. In addition, the proposed method synthesizes flicker-free video.

The arcade gun has been a popular game controller in the video game market from the 1970s. The arcade gun, which is used partially in game centers and domestic games, recently is utilized as the interface for the interactive system and tangible media. On the other hand, the existing arcade gun has limits on hardware so it is unsuitable for wide screens. In addition, being platform-dependent, it is inapplicable to various types of content as a single module. This study suggests a correction algorithm that establishes an arcade gun system based on an infrared camera to solve those drawbacks and apply to possibly numerous surroundings.
Optical stimulation provides a promising alternative to electrical stimulation to selectively modulate tissue. However, developing noninvasive techniques to directly stimulate excitable tissue without introducing genetic modifications and minimizing cellular stress remains an ongoing challenge. Infrared (IR) light has been used to achieve optical pacing for electrophysiological studies in embryonic quail and mammalian hearts. Here, we demonstrate optical stimulation and pacing of the embryonic chicken heart using a pulsed infrared thulium laser with a wavelength of 1927 nm. By recording stereomicroscope outputs and quantifying heart rates and movements through video processing, we found that heart rate increases instantly following irradiation with a large spot size and high radiant exposure. Targeting the atrium using a smaller spot size and lower radiant exposure achieved pacing, as the heart rate synchronized with the laser to 2 Hz. This study demonstrates the viability of using the 1927 nm thulium laser for cardiac stimulation and optical pacing, expanding the optical parameters and IR lasers that can be used to modulate cardiac dynamics.
