  • In this paper we introduce a class of moving-average(MA) sequences of multivariate random vectors with geometric marginals. The theory of positive dependence is used to show that in various cases the class of MA sequences consists of associated random variables. We utilize positive dependence properties to obtain weakly probability inequality of the multivariate processes.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the theories and cases of performance sharing in the franchise industry to present a method for more effective franchise performance-sharing. To that end, this study reviewed the theory on resource dependence and the theory on inequality to describe the performance-sharing between the franchisor and the franchisee and their relationship. It also looked at the cases of a week-in cooler system at 'Beer Market', the allocation of fees for alcoholic beverage sales to franchisees, the scholarship program of 'Onigiri and Ikyudon' and 'Bonsamo' which is a franchisees' committee for Bonjuk to introduce examples of performance-sharing. Through a theoretical review and case review, this study presents five types of methods for performance-sharing. First, 'the sharing of core competence by the franchise company; second, 'the establishment of a royalty culture'; third, 'scientific analysis of markets and establishment of a revenue forecast system'; fourth, 'reinforced financial support from the franchisor'; and lastly, 'the positive application of franchisees' committees'. Such methods are expected to provide a groundwork for mutual benefit and co-prosperity between franchisor and franchisee.

  • The theory of random utility maximization (RUM) defines the probability of an alternative being chosen as the probability of its utility being perceived as higher than those of all the other competing alternatives in the choice set (Marschak 1960). According to this theory, consumers perceive the utility of an alternative not as a constant but as a probability distribution. Over the last two decades, there have been an increasing number of studies on the effect of utility variance on choice probability. The common result of the previous studies is that as the utility variance increases, the effect of the mean value of the utility (the deterministic component of the utility) on choice probability is reduced. This study provides a theoretical investigation on the effect of utility variance on choice probability without any assumptions on the specific forms of probability distributions. This study suggests that without assumptions of the probability distribution functions, firms cannot apply the marketing strategy of maximizing choice probability (or market share), but can only adopt the strategy of maximizing the minimum or maximum value of the expected choice probability. This study applies the Chebyshef inequality and shows how the changes in utility variances affect the maximum of minimum of choice probabilities and provides managerial implications.

  • In this paper we define a two parametric new generalized useful average code-word length $L_{\alpha}^{\beta}$(P;U) and its relationship with two parametric new generalized useful information measure $H_{\alpha}^{\beta}$(P;U) has been discussed. The lower and upper bound of $L_{\alpha}^{\beta}$(P;U), in terms of $H_{\alpha}^{\beta}$(P;U) are derived for a discrete noiseless channel. The measures defined in this communication are not only new but some well known measures are the particular cases of our proposed measures that already exist in the literature of useful information theory. The noiseless coding theorems for discrete channel proved in this paper are verified by considering Huffman and Shannon-Fano coding schemes on taking empirical data. Also we study the monotonic behavior of $H_{\alpha}^{\beta}$(P;U) with respect to parameters ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$. The important properties of $H_{{\alpha}}^{{\beta}}$(P;U) have also been studied.

  • This study is concerned with H$_{\infty}$ control theory of nonlinear systems. Recently H$_{\infty}$ control theory has been developed to nonlinear systems, and especially nonlinear H$_{\infty}$ control theory based on the Hamilton-Jacobi inequality has been proposed. This corresponds to linear H$_{\infty}$ control theory based on the Riccati equation. In this paper, we apply it to a semi-active dynamic vibration absorber for multi-degree-of-freedom structure, and we design its state feedback controller via the Riccati equation. In the simulation, we show that it is effective for a vibration control.rol.

  • Recent advances in the field of control theory have enabled us to design active vibration control systems for various structures. In many studies, the controller used to suppress vibration has been synthesized for the given mathematical model of structure. In these cases, the designer has not been able to utilize the degree of freedom to adjust the structural parameters of the control object. To overcome this problem, so called 'Structure/Control Simultaneous Optimization Method' is used. In this context of view, this paper is concerned with the active vibration control of bridge towers, platforms and ocean vehicles etc. Simultaneous design method is used to achieve optimal system performance. Here, a general framework for the simultaneous design problem of output feedback case is introduced based on LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality). The simulation results show that the proposed design method achieves desirable control performance.

  • This paper presents the design methodology of digital fuzzy controller(DFC) for the systems with time-delay. We propose the fuzzy feedback controller whose output is delayed with unit sampling period and predicted. The analysis and the design problem considering time-delay become easy because the proposed controller is syncronized with the sampling time. The stabilization problem of the digital fuzzy system with time-delay is solved by linear matrix inequality(LMI) theory. Convex optimization techniques are utilized to solve the stable feedback gains and a common Lyapunov function for designed fuzzy control system. To show the effectiveness the proposed control scheme, the network control example is presented.

  • A new gain-scheduled control design is proposed to improve disturbance attenuation for systems with bounded control input. The state feedback controller is scheduled according to the proximity to the origin of the state of the plant. The controllers is derived in the framework of linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization. This procedure yields a linear time varying control structure that allows higher gain and hence higher performance controllers as the state move closer to the origin. The main results give sufficient conditions for the satisfaction of a parameter-dependent performance measure, without violating the bounded control input condition.

  • A new optimal state feedback and disturbance feedforward control design in the sense of minimizing $L_2$-gain from disturbance to control output is proposed for disturbance attenuation of systems with bounded control input and measurable disturbance. The controller is derived in the framework of linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization. A gain scheduled state feedback and disturbance feedforward control design is also suggested to improve disturbance attenuation performance. The control gains are scheduled according to the proximity to the origin of the state of the plant and the magnitude of disturbance. This procedure yields a stable linear time varying control structure that allows higher gain and hence higher performance controller as the state and the disturbance move closer to the origin. The main results give sufficient conditions for the satisfaction of a parameter-dependent performance measure, without violating the bounded control input condition.

  • This paper deals with some new nonlinear delay and weakly singular integral inequalities of Gronwall-Bellman type. These results generalize the inequalities discussed by Xiang and Kuang [19]. Several other inequalities proved by $Medve{\check{d}}$ [15] and Ou-Iang [17] follow as special cases of this paper. This work can be used in the analysis of various problems in the theory of certain classes of differential equations, integral equations and evolution equations. A modification of the Ou-Iang type inequality with delay is also treated in this paper.
