  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand and explain the meaning and nature of post-traumatic stress among industrially injured workers. Methods: In this study, Colaizzi's phenomenological research method and an in-depth interview were used, and data were collected from 8 industrially injured workers among adult men and women over the age of 20, those who are able to express their opinions, have experienced injuries due to industrial accidents, and those who have been injured for more than 6 months who had participated in the study from 1st May 2021 to 30th September. The in-depth interview with research participants took approximately 30 minutes to 90 minutes on average. Results: The research results were classified into five categories, eleven thematic collections, and 27 themes. The Five categories were 'maze with no exit', 'erased existence', 'impenetrable barrier', 'tightly closed iron gate', and 'overcoming reality hurdles'. Conclusions: This study can help understand and describe the experiences of post-traumatic stress among workers who have experienced industrial accidents by taking a phenomenological approach. It suggests the need for program intervention and institutional improvement for psychosocial rehabilitation as well as an institutional approach toward these targets.

  • A study on the morbidity of syphilis among 729 workers in Po Hang and Ul San Industiral Complexes at the routine periodical examination was performed. In addition to the morbidity, factors related to the disease infection such as educational level, religion, preventive measures taken by the workers, history of urethritis, and so on were studied and analysed to check significant relation. The results were as follows: 1. VDRL and RPR tests were undertaken to determine the sensitivity and specificity of RPR test which was utilized for all the workers studied. It revealed 86.4% of sensitivity and 87.7% of specificity from RPR test, and 81.8% of sensitivity and 90.1% of specificity from the VDRL test compared with RPCF test. There were 87.4% of agreement rate between RPR and VDRL. Actually, RPR was more sensitive but less specific than VDRL, and found to be a satisfactory screening test for syphilis especially in the fields. 2. Among the workers in Po Hang Area 24.0% of them revealed reactive result, and in Ul San Area 5.2% revealed reactive result showing 4.6 times of risk among workers in Po Hang Area. 3. There were no statistically significant differences between RPR reactive rates and personal characteristics such as educational level, religion, history of urethritis experience, history of coitus with prostitute, and preventive measures of V.D. taken by workers if evaluated by area of Po Hang and Ul Srn separately. 4. V.D. could be encountered as an occupational disease in certain conditions of working places and the psychosocial problems of workers. And so, it is necessary that all the workers working in special estates such as in Po Hang Industrial Complex should be checked to be screened out by RPR test at periodical examinations and part of pre-employment examination also should include RPR test to be compared with. Regardless of the workmen's compensation, establishment of V.D. treatment clinic or system for such industrial workers is urgently needed. Health education regarding V.D. is another subject to be performed.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate work environment monitoring program(WMP) under Industrial Safety and Health Act in Korea. WMP was evaluated by focusing on five key elements, such as purpose, subject, scope, method and workers' participation. The operation status of WMP was evaluated by using questionnaire to workers and data published by Ministry of Labor(MOL). Compliance rate of WMP was less 13 % in manufacturing workplaces. Over-exposure rate was steady state by annual trend. The degree of workers' satisfaction to WMP was just 24 %. A critical problem with the current WMP is that the employer and workers are not acting as main players. For a fundamental improvement in working condition to take place, participation of workers should be expanded and be guaranteed by law.

  • Objective: This research focuses on the working environment of office workers and aims to propose an ideal seating posture and chair design. Background: Generally, office workers having to seat in a fixed posture for long periods of time tend to suffer from an increased rate of musculoskeletal disorders. Method: The measurement and survey of 123 office workers on their working conditions and literature survey will lead to a suggestion of an ideal seating posture and workstation design theory. Results: Work environment satisfaction appeared low for chair and desks. Work-related pain over the last year was experienced among 47.2% of the respondents in shoulder (34.2%), neck (30.9%). Observation of working posture revealed that only 27.6% of workers utilize backrest during work. Conclusion: Office work embodies many situations where risks of musculoskeletal disorders may be high. Thus, the seated workplace must be set up to allow proper seating posture for workers. Application: The results of this study can be applied as baseline data for preventing musculoskeletal disorders of office workers.

  • This research explored parenting education programs for be college students and adolescent workers, and it was focused on determining whether different parenting education programs were needed for college students and adolescent workers. The participants were 254 college students in Suncheon and 135 adolescent industrial workers in Ulsan. Data were gathered via questionnaires and two-way ANOVA analyses of parenting effectiveness by sex and social status(college student, versus adolescent industrial worker), and by age and social status were performed. There were no significant differences based on sex, age, or social status, and no interaction effect. However, there were significant differences in adolescents' parenting effectiveness depending on childhood parenting experiences, parenting knowledge, and parenting education program experience. Among the predictors(sex, age, social status, childhood parenting experience, parenting knowledge, and parent education experiences) adolescents' childhood parenting experiences was the strongest variable for predicting parenting effectiveness. In this regard, the results confirmed Bronfenbrenner's Ecological System's Theory that family influences children's belief systems about parenting effectiveness in the microsystem. Furthermore, the results indicate that a different parenting education program is not needed for college students and adolescent industrial workers, respectively; instead, a more comprehensive parenting education program for all adolescents - regardless of social status is needed. And based on the present study's results, the importance of child development knowledge, and parent-child relationships in parenting education programs was also confirmed. From a broader social perspective, all adolescents are encouraged to participate in parenting education programs.

  • Hearing protection devices (HPDs) are currently the most common countermeasure against occupational noise-induced hearing loss. Use of HPD is only effective when they are properly Worn. However, industrial workers often do not very them, posing a serious under protection. This paper analyzes several motivational strategies which might be applied improve HPD use in the field. It was concluded that such methods could readily be implemented in the workplace to protect workers exposed to hazardous industrial noises.

  • Background: The impact of COVID-19 infection on workers' work function persists even after the acute phase of the infection. We studied this phenomenon in Japanese workers. Methods: We conducted a one-year prospective cohort study online, starting with a baseline survey in December 2020. We tracked workers without baseline work functioning impairment and incorporated data from 14,421 eligible individuals into the analysis. We estimated the incidence rate ratio for new onset of work functioning impairment due to COVID-19 infection during follow-up, using mixed-effects Poisson regression analysis with robust variance. Results: Participants reporting infection between January and December 2021 showed a significantly higher incidence of new work functioning impairment (adjusted incidence rate ratio: 2.18, 95% confidence interval: 1.75-2.71, p < 0.001). The formality of the recuperation environment correlated with a higher risk of work functioning deterioration in infected individuals (p for trend <0.001). Conclusion: COVID-19-infected workers may continue to experience work difficulties due to persistent, post-acute infection symptoms. Companies and society must urgently provide rehabilitation and social support for people with persistent symptoms, recognizing that COVID-19 is not just a transient acute infection.
