The guidelines for indoor air quality of public transportations such as subway, train and bus was presented by Korean Ministry of Environment last end of year 2006 based on the great consequence of indoor air quality in daily life. Two main parameters, carbon dioxide($CO_2$) and particulate matters smaller than $10\;{\mu}m(PM_{10})$, were selected as index pollutants for the management of indoor air quality. The former pollutant, $CO_2$, is regarded as index of ventilation status and the major source of $CO_2$ in the train or subway is the exhalation of passengers. It is publically perceived that the high $CO_2$ concentration in a crowded subway will be reduced and ventilated with outdoor air by door-opening taken every 2 or 3 minutes when the train stops each station. However, there has not been any scientific proof and quantitative information on the effect of door-opening on the $CO_2$ reduction by ventilation with outdoor air. In this study, $CO_2$ concentration and number of passengers were measured at each station on the 3 lines of Korail metropolitan subway. In order to evaluate the effect of $CO_2$ reduction by door opening, the theoretical approach using the $CO_2$ balance equation was performed. By comparing the predicted data with monitoring one, the optimum $CO_2$ dilution factor was determined. For the first time, it was quantified that about 35% of $CO_2$ concentration in the subway indoor was removed by the door-opening at each station.
Nowadays, concerns have much more growing regarding indoor air quality (IAQ) on the public transportation including railway vehicles. Last year Korea Ministry of Environment (ME) set new guideline for public transportation. In this study several factors were analyzed which may affect comfortableness of railway passenger cabin, and we monitored IAQ parameters (PM10, CO, $CO_2$, VOCs, temperature and humidity) to investigate the present pollution in passenger cabin. In general, the railway air quality was satisfactory. The PM10 and $CO_2$ level on all passenger cabin were below the new guideline level 1 for PM10 $(200{\mu}g/m^3)\;and\;CO_2(2,000ppm)$. Clustering method was carried out to classify the air polluting pattern of the cabin. As a result, the pollutants could be classified to 4 clusters and the origin of pollution is soil, diesel exhaust gas, abrasion of rail and plume.
This study is to research on the condition of safe environment of kindergartens. This study is to supplement the preceding study which was based only on survey to show the result and analyze the condition and problems of the safety of kindergartens to suggest the basic database of indoor environment that cause accident. First as a theoretical study, we analyze the preceding studies according to the related regulations. And we made checklist based on this and visited and investigated two kindergartens where applied for the case study As the result, we could understand factors that can cause accidents from classroom, corridor, door, stairs, balustrade, toilet, kitchen, front door, and fire exit/shelter. Especially, in case of fire exit/shelter, the whole renewal of kindergarten was necessary which is difficult. But, though it can not be advanced right away, they should try to have facility expansion and repair works gradually. And for more study on this, active cooperation from kindergartens are in need.
In this paper, we describe a sensor module that monitors fire environment by analyzing fire characteristics. We analyzed the smoke characteristics of indoor fire. Six different environments were defined according to the type of smoke and the flame, and the sensors available for each environment were combined. Based on this analysis, the sensors were selected from the perspective of firefighter. The sensor module consists of an RGB camera, an infrared camera and a radar. It is designed with minimum weight to fit on the robot. the enclosure of sensor is designed to protect against the radiant heat of the fire scene. We propose a single camera mode, thermal stereo mode, data fusion mode, and radar mode that can be used depending on the fire scene. Thermal stereo was effectively refined using an image segmentation algorithm, SLIC (Simple Linear Iterative Clustering). In order to reproduce the fire scene, three fire test environments were built and each sensor was verified.
The aim of this study is to relieve the poor ventilation problem of the diesel locomotive engine load test building, located in an urban area. This paper evaluates the ventilation performances of the studied load test building based on the temperature measurement experiment and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) during the engine load test. The temperature rise caused by the radiator blower of the building was turned out to be the main cause of disturbing the thermal conditions of the building. The indoor temperature distributions simulated by Fluent were validated with the temperature measurement results obtained from the studied building. The simulation results indicated that the comfort condition of this building was poor We suggested several remedial changes in the duct structure of this building for the improvement of the comfort conditions. In addition, a prototype drawing combining several improved design options was proposed. and then the simulation of the temperature distribution in the proposed prototype was performed. The result indicated that the indoor thermal condition of this proposed building was improved when compared with that of the current building.

This study analyzed the fire status of a rubber product manufacturing factory based on 19 years of fire data. Through the analysis of the current state of fire, electrical fires accounted for 58.19%, and among electrical fires, motor fires were the highest at 26.21%. For the motor fire occurrence process, the curing process accounted for the highest rate of 51.9%. Therefore, the installation environment was investigated for the motor in the curing process, and it was confirmed that the motor's maximum ambient temperature exceeded 40℃. In particular, in the case of the motor for curing operation, the motor was installed in a separate motor room, so the average indoor temperature was 48.10℃ and the motor frame's maximum temperature was 72.80℃. In this study, the risk of motor fire was confirmed through a field survey, and a safety management plan was derived by finding a process with high fire risk and conducting an experiment on the motor's installation environment and electrical characteristics in that process.
