대청복합댐 접합면에 대한 토압 및 간극수압의 변동분석 (Analysis of the Variation of Earth Pressures and Pore Pressures on the Interfaces of Taechong Composite Dam.)

  • 1980년에 완공된 대청댐은 콘크리트댐과 석괴댐으로 혼합된 복슴댐으로서 결합부에는 제체에서 가장 취약한 곳인 원합면이 존재하므로 댐 건설시 계측기를 매설하여 토려 및 간극수려을 계속 측 정하고 있다. 본연구에서는 해석적 방법으로 평면변형하에서 건설단계를 하중증분형태로 보는 비선형증가 유한 요소해석방법을 적용하였으며, 이에 대한 심벽재료의 파라미터들은 토취장에서 채취한 점토를 현장 밀도 및 함수비로 다진후 삼축압축시험을 실시하여 추정하였고 휠터 및 제각부의 파라미터들은 관계 문헌을 이용하여 추정하였다. 비교분석결과 심벽부의 토압은 대체적으로 예측치와 실측치가 일치하는 경향을 보였으나 제설부에서는 다소의 차이가 있었다. 또한 간선수압 모델은 심압부의 간선수압예측에 좋은 결과를 보여 주었다.

A new method of predicting hotspot stresses for longitudinal attachments with reduced element sensitivities

  • For the complicated structural details in ships and offshore structures, the traditional hotspot stress approaches are known to be sensitive to the element variables of element topologies, sizes, and integration schemes. This motivated to develop a new approach for predicting reasonable hotspot stresses, which is less sensitive to the element variables and easy to be implemented the real marine structures. The three-point bending tests were conducted for the longitudinal attachments with the round and rectangular weld toes. The tests were reproduced in the numerical simulations using the solid and shell element models, and the simulation technique was validated by comparing the experimental stresses with the simulated ones. This paper considered three hotspot stress approaches: the ESM method based on surface stress extrapolation, the Dong's method based on nodal forces along a weld toe, and the proposed method based on nodal forces perpendicular to an imaginary vertical plane at a weld toe. In order to study the element sensitivities of each method, 16 solid element models and 8 shell element models were generated under the bending and tension loads, respectively. The element sensitivity was analyzed in terms of Stress Concentration Factors (SCFs) in viewpoints of two statistical quantities of mean and bias with respect to the reference SCFs. The average SCFs predicted by the proposed method were remarkably in good agreement with the reference SCFs based on the experiments and the ship rules. Negligibly small Coefficients of Variation (CVs) of the SCFs, which is measure of statistical bias, were drawn by the proposed method.

황해중부부이에서 관측된 기온 및 표층수온의 변화양상 분석 (Variation Pattern Analysis on the Air and Surface Water Temperatures of the Yellow Sea Monitoring Buoy)

  • 황해중부해역에 설치된 황해 모니터링 부이에서 관측한 기온과 표층수온의 변동성분을 추출하기 위하여 조화분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, 기온과 표층 수온 모두 1년, 반년 주기성분이 가장 우세한 것으로 파악되었으며, 보다 짧은 주기성분은 $0.2{\sim}0.5^{\circ}C$ 이하의 작은 변동성분에만 기여하는 것으로 파악되었다. 한편, 기온과 표층수온의 조화분석 성분에서 추출한 잔차성분을 분석한 결과, 기온 잔차성분의 표준편차는 표층 수온 잔차성분의 표준편차보다 2.4배 정도 크고, 잔차성분의 발생빈도분포는 정규분포로 근사화하는 것이 가능한 것으로 파악되었다. 한편, 기온에 따른 표층수온 변화양상을 기온-표층수온 평면에서 분석한 결과 뚜렷한 연속적인 이력고리(hysteresis loop)를 형성하는 것이 발견되었으며, 반시계방향의 기온-표층수온 상승기, 기온-표층수온 하강기 그리고 동계 일정한 표층수온 유지기로 구성되어 있는 것으로 파악되었다.

EFG 방법으로 성장한 β-Ga2O3 단결정의 영역별 품질 분석 (Spatial variation in quality of Ga2O3 single crystal grown by edge-defined film-fed growth method)

  • 초광역대 반도체인 β-Ga2O3은 고전력 반도체 소재에 대한 유망한 응용으로 인해 큰 주목을 받고 있다. 5가지 다른 다형 중 가장 안정적인 상인 β-Ga2O3는 4.9 eV의 넓은 밴드갭과 8 MV/cm의 높은 항복 전계를 갖는다. 또한, 이는 용융 소스로부터 성장될 수 있어 전력반도체용 SiC, GaN 및 다이아몬드와 같은 다른 와이드 밴드갭 반도체보다 더 높은 성장률과 더 낮은 제조 비용으로 성장이 가능하다. 이 연구에서 β-Ga2O3 단결정 성장은 EFG(edge-defined film-fed growth) 방법에 의해 성장되었다. 성장 방향과 주면을 각각 β-Ga2O3 결정의 [010] 방향과 (100)면으로 성장하였다. Raman 분석의 스펙트럼으로 β-Ga2O3 잉곳의 결정상과 불순물을 확인하였고, 고해상도 X선 회절(HRXRD)을 이용하여 결정 품질과 결정 방향을 분석하였다. 또한 EFG 방법으로 성장한 β-Ga2O3 리본형태의 잉곳을 각 위치별로 결정 품질과 다양한 특성을 체계적으로 분석하였다.

Estimation of the Latitude, the Gnomon's Length and Position About Sinbeop-Jipyeong-Ilgu in the Late of Joseon Dynasty

  • In this study, the characteristics of a horizontal sundial from the Joseon Dynasty were investigated. Korea's Treasure No. 840 (T840) is a Western-style horizontal sundial where hour-lines and solar-term-lines are engraved. The inscription of this sundial indicates that the latitude (altitude of the north celestial pole) is $37^{\circ}$ 39', but the gnomon is lost. In the present study, the latitude of the sundial and the length of the gnomon were estimated based only on the hour-lines and solar-term-lines of the horizontal sundial. When statistically calculated from the convergent point obtained by extending the hour-lines, the latitude of this sundial was $37^{\circ}$ $15^{\prime}{\pm}26^{\prime}$, which showed a 24' difference from the record of the inscription. When it was also assumed that a convergent point is changeable, the estimation of the sundial's latitude was found to be sensitive to the variation of this point. This study found that T840 used a vertical gnomon, that is, perpendicular to the horizontal plane, rather than an inclined triangular gnomon, and a horn-shaped mark like a vertical gnomon is cut on its surface. The length of the gnomon engraved on the artifact was 43.1 mm, and in the present study was statistically calculated as $43.7{\pm}0.7mm$. In addition, the position of the gnomon according to the original inscription and our calculation showed an error of 0.3 mm.

A new high-order response surface method for structural reliability analysis

  • In order to consider high-order effects on the actual limit state function, a new response surface method is proposed for structural reliability analysis by the use of high-order approximation concept in this study. Hermite polynomials are used to determine the highest orders of input random variables, and the sampling points for the determination of highest orders are located on Gaussian points of Gauss-Hermite integration. The cross terms between two random variables, only in case that their corresponding percent contributions to the total variation of limit state function are significant, will be added to the response surface function to improve the approximation accuracy. As a result, significant reduction in computational cost is achieved with this strategy. Due to the addition of cross terms, the additional sampling points, laid on two-dimensional Gaussian points off axis on the plane of two significant variables, are required to determine the coefficients of the approximated limit state function. All available sampling points are employed to construct the final response surface function. Then, Monte Carlo Simulation is carried out on the final approximation response surface function to estimate the failure probability. Due to the use of high order polynomial, the proposed method is more accurate than the traditional second-order or linear response surface method. It also provides much more efficient solutions than the available high-order response surface method with less loss in accuracy. The efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed method compared with those of various response surface methods available are illustrated by five numerical examples.

Cephalometric landmark variability among orthodontists and dentomaxillofacial radiologists: a comparative study

  • Purpose: The aim this study was to compare the accuracy of orthodontists and dentomaxillofacial radiologists in identifying 17 commonly used cephalometric landmarks, and to determine the extent of variability associated with each of those landmarks. Materials and Methods: Twenty digital lateral cephalometric radiographs were evaluated by two groups of dental specialists, and 17 cephalometric landmarks were identified. The x and y coordinates of each landmark were recorded. The mean value for each landmark was considered the best estimate and used as the standard. Variation in measurements of the distance between landmarks and measurements of the angles associated with certain landmarks was also assessed by a subset of two observers, and intraobserver and interobserver agreement were evaluated. Results: Intraclass correlation coefficients were excellent for intraobserver agreement, but only good for interobserver agreement. The least reliable landmark for orthodontists was the gnathion (Gn) point (standard deviation [SD], 5.92 mm), while the orbitale (Or) was the least reliable landmark (SD, 4.41 mm) for dentomaxillofacial radiologists. Furthermore, the condylion (Co)-Gn plane was the least consistent (SD, 4.43 mm). Conclusion: We established that some landmarks were not as reproducible as others, both horizontally and vertically. The most consistently identified landmark in both groups was the lower incisor border, while the least reliable points were Co, Gn, Or, and the anterior nasal spine. Overall, a lower level of reproducibility in the identification of cephalometric landmarks was observed among orthodontists.

Mushroom 형태의 EBG 구조가 집적된 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나의 방사 특성 해석 (Analysis of Radiation Characteristics of Microstrip Patch Antennas Integrated with Mushroom-like EBG Structures)

  • 패치 안테나 주위에 mushroom 형태를 가지는 EBG 구조를 길이 방향, 폭 방향과 모든 방향으로 집적한 경우 구조 파라미터에 따른 패치 안테나의 방사 특성을 연구하였다. EBG 구조가 길이 방향을 따라 집적된 경우가 가장 방사 특성이 좋음을 볼 수 있었다. EBG 패치 edge에서 패치 안테나의 피드까지의 거리가 같은 경우가 패치 안테나의 중심까지의 거리가 같은 경우와 비교하여 E-평면 방사패턴이 대칭적이고 전방방사 크기가 커지고 후방방사 크기가 작아짐을 볼 수 있었다. 사용하는 EBG 구조의 주기 수가 4주기 이상이 되게 되면 방사특성 변화는 거의 발생하지 않음을 볼 수 있었다.

Nanoprobing Charge Transport Properties of Strained and Indented Topological Insulator

  • We investigated the correlation between electrical transport and mechanical stress in $Bi_2Te_2Se$ by using a conductive probe atomic force microscopy in an ultra-high vacuum environment. Uniform distribution of measured friction and current were observed over a single quintuple layer terrace, which is an indication of the uniform chemical composition of the surface. By measuring the charge transport of $Bi_2Te_2Se$ surface as a function of the load applied by a tip to the sample, we found that the current density varies with applied load. The variation of current density was explained in light of the combined effect of the changes in the in-plane conductance and spin-orbit coupling that were theoretically predicted. We suppose that the local density of states is modified by tip-induced strain, but topological phase still remains. We exposed a clean topological insulator surface by tip-induced indentation. The surface conductance on the indented $Bi_2Te_2Se$ surface was studied, and the role of surface oxide on the surface conductance is discussed.

An efficient hyperbolic shear deformation theory for bending, buckling and free vibration of FGM sandwich plates with various boundary conditions

  • In this research, a simple hyperbolic shear deformation theory is developed and applied for the bending, vibration and buckling of powerly graded material (PGM) sandwich plate with various boundary conditions. The displacement field of the present model is selected based on a hyperbolic variation in the in-plane displacements across the plate's thickness. By splitting the deflection into the bending and shear parts, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present formulation is reduced and hence makes them simple to use. Equations of motion are obtained from Hamilton's principle. Numerical results for the natural frequencies, deflections and critical buckling loads of several types of powerly graded sandwich plates under various boundary conditions are presented. The accuracy of the present formulation is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. As conclusion, this theory is as accurate as other theories available in the literature and so it becomes more attractive due to smaller number of unknowns.
