  • A novel torque sharing function (TSF) is presented. To improve efficiency and to reduce torque ripple in commutation region, only a phase torque under commutation is regulated to produce a uniform torque. And the torque developed by the other phase remains with the previous state under a current limit of the motor and drive. If the minimum change of a phase torque reference can not satisfy the total reference torque, two-phase changing mode is used. Since a phase torque is constant and the other phase torque is changed at each rotor position, total torque error can be reduced within a phase torque error limit. And the total torque error is dependent on the change of phase torque. To consider non-linear torque characteristics and to suppress a tail current at the end of commutation region, the incoming phase current is changed to torque increasing direction, but the outgoing phase current is changed to torque decreasing direction. So, the torque sharing of the outgoing phase and incoming phase can be smoothly changed with a minimum current cross over. The proposed control scheme is verified by some computer simulations and experimental results.

  • In this paper, we compared the performances of the Right Handed Transmission Line (RHTL) and the Left Handed Transmission Line (LHTL) phase shifters as a frequency translator. Unlike other phase shifters, both phase shifters show a $0^{\circ}-360^{\circ}$ phase variation for a broadband frequency and compact in size which are ideal to use as a frequency translator. For the performance comparison, we fabricated both a RHTL and a LHTL phase shifter to cover 1.5 GHz - 2.4 GHz range with the whole $360^{\circ}$ phase variation. For the frequency range, a LHTL based frequency translator showed a much better performance whose Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) is 4dB - 17dB higher than the RHTL based frequency translator when the sawtooth modulation freqncy is 11 kHz. This is due to the linear phase-voltage variation of LHTL phase shifter. Furthermore, the LHTL phase shifter shows a less insertion loss and a insertion loss variation than the RHTL phase shifter. Overall, the LHTL based frequency translator outperformed RHTL based freqency translator.

  • It is investigated that the relation between the response time of DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) and the possible compensation range of voltage dip by the DVR system which protects the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier from voltage dip. As a result, the permissible range of voltage dip is presented in the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier, and it is presented that the range of voltage dip which can be compensated according to the DVR s response time. when the DVR compensates voltage dip, Using the proposed method, the DVR s response time can be determined from the parameters of 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier and the possible compensation range of voltage dip, and it is possible to use the control system which have an appropriate speed. Therefore, the use of excessively fast device can be avoided, and the stability of the overall system is improved. Also the reliance of DVR about the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier can be verified.

  • In this paper digital phase-shifter for multi-arm spiral antennas was designed by using Hilbert transform. All frequency components in input signal are phase-shifted for 90 degree by Hilbert transform, and the transform is implemented by FIT and IFIT. Digital phase-shifter generates two signals with phase difference of 90 degree by using Hilbert transform from input signals sampled by analog-digital converter(ADC), and then the input signal is phase-shifted for a given phase by using two signals. Hilbert transform based on digital phase-shifter is designed by Xilinx System generator, and the effects of input noise, FIT point, sampling period, initial phase of input signal, and shifted phase are simulated and its results are compared with Matlab results.

  • In this paper, phase noise analysis result for 2.4 GHz PLL(phase locked loop) using SPD(sample phase detector) is proposed. It can be used for high performance frequency synthesizer's LO(local oscillator) to extend output frequency range or for LO of offset PLL to reduce a division rate or for clock signal of DDS(direct digital synthesizer). Before manufacturing, theoretical estimation of PLL's phase noise performance should be performed. In order to calculate phase noise of PLL using SPD, Leeson model is used for modeling phase noise of VCO(voltage controlled oscillator) and OCXO(ovened crystal oscillator). After theoretically analyzing phase noise of PLL, optimized loop filter bandwidth was determined. And then, phase noise of designed loop filter was calculated to find suitable OP-Amp. Also, the calculated result of phase noise was compared with the measured one. The measured phase noise of PLL was -130 dBc/Hz @ 10 kHz.

  • Phase interpolation is widely adopted in frequency synthesizers and clock-and-data recovery systems to produce an intermediate phase from two existing phases. The intermediate phase is typically generated by combining two input phases with different weights. Unfortunately, this results in non-uniform phase steps. Alternatively, the intermediate phase can be generated by successive approximation, where the interpolated phase at each approximation stage is obtained using the same weight for the two intermediate phases. As a proof of concept, this study presents a 2-GHz 8-bit successive approximation digital-to-phase converter that is designed using 65-nm CMOS technology. The converter receives an 8-phase clock signal as input, and the most significant bit (MSB) section selects four phases to create two sinusoidal waveforms using a harmonic rejection filter. The remaining least significant bit (LSB) section applies the successive approximation to generate the required intermediate phase. Monte-Carlo simulations show that the proposed converter exhibits 0.46-LSB integral nonlinearity and 0.31-LSB differential nonlinearity with a power consumption of 3.12 mW from a 1.2-V supply voltage.

  • Following the success of detecting fringes on KVN (Korean VLBI Network), a phase referencing observation is currently planned in order to achieve a better sensitivity in mm-VLBI. The high frequency observation ($\geq$ 22 GHz), wide bandwidths (~512 MHz) and high speed data recording (~1 Gbps, Mark5B) will result in resolution and sensitivity improvement on KVN. In particular, two powerful techniques of VLBI phase correction by fast-antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing are also introduced in KVN, hoping to resolve the problem of atmospheric delay errors which degrade the coherence significantly. In this study, we have compared the expected performance of phase referencing between fast antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing and discussed the essential condition and postulates of phase referencing for KVN.

  • Retention of mono-substituted phenols in reversed-phase liquid chromatography has been studied based on the linear solvation energy relationships using the solvatochromic mobile phase parameters, ${\pi}_m^{\ast}, {\alpha}_m$ and ${\beta}_m$. It has been observed that retention behavior of phenols in RPLC were well represented by regression equations vs. solvatochromic mobile phase parameters even though the equations may be incomplete due to lack of an explicit cavity term. Dependence of retention of monosubstituted phenols on the mobile phase properties were varied depending on the type of the organic cosolvent in the mobile phase, e.g., ${\beta}_m$ and {\alpha}_m$ in methanol-water system, but ${\pi}_m^{\ast} and ${\beta}_m$ in THF-water system. It has been suggested that retention of phenols in methanol-water system is controlled by the solvophobicity of the mobile phase.

  • A thermal-hydraulic code, named CUPID, has been developed for the analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components. A two-fluid three-field model was used for steam-water two-phase flows. To obtain numerical solutions, the finite volume method was applied over unstructured cell-centered meshes. In steam-water two-phase flows, a phase change, i.e., evaporation or condensation, results in a great change in the flow field because of substantial density difference between liquid and vapor phases. Thus, two-phase flows are very sensitive to the local pressure distribution that determines the phase change. This in turn puts emphasis on the accurate evaluation of local pressure gradient. This paper presents a new reconstruction method to evaluate the pressure gradient at cell centers on unstructured meshes. The results of the new scheme for a simple test function, a gravity-driven cavity, and a wall boiling two-phase flow are compared with those of the previous schemes in the CUPID code.

  • Due to inaccurate safe navigation estimates, maritime accidents have been occurring consistently. In order to solve this, the precise positioning technology using carrier phase information is used, but due to high buildings near inland waterways or inclination, satellite signals might become weak or blocked for some time. Under this weak signal environment for some time, the GPS raw measurements become less accurate so that it is difficult to search and maintain the integer ambiguity of carrier phase. In this paper, a method to generate code and carrier phase measurements under this environment and maintain resilient navigation is proposed. In the weak signal environment, the position of the receiver is estimated using an inertial sensor, and with this information, the distance between the satellite and the receiver is calculated to generate code measurements using IGS product and model. And, the carrier phase measurements are generated based on the statistics for generating fractional phase. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, the proposed method was compared for a fixed blocked time. It was confirmed that in case of a weak or blocked satellite signals for 1 to 5 minutes, the proposed method showed more improved results than the inertial navigation only, maintaining stable positioning accuracy within 1 m.
