  • A fuzzy PID controller design method is proposed for precise robust control of DC-DC buck converters. The PID parameters are determined reflecting on the common control engineering knowledge that transient performances can be improved if the P and I gains are big and the D gain is small at the beginning. Different from the previous fuzzy control design methods, the proposed method requires no defuzzification module and the global stability of the proposed fuzzy control system can be guaranteed. The proposed fuzzy PID controller is implemented by using a low-cost 8-bit microcontroller, and simulation and experimental results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear controller design for optical disk drive systems to improve anti-shock performance. The nonlinear anti-shock controller is added parallel to the original linear servo control loop. In the previous work, dead-zone nonlinear element is used for nonlinear controller and PID control method is used for linear controller. Although this strategy improves anti-shock performance, it has a narrow stability bound. In this paper, we propose dead-zone with saturation nonlinear element for the nonlinear controller. Since this nonlinear element improves stability margin, we can use higher gain of dead-zone than the controller with dead-zone only. In the linear controller design, we show that lead-lag control has improved stability margin over PID control. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method can get better performance to the external shock than previously proposed method.

  • In this paper, the analytical tuning rules of the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller have been derived for a broad class of stable, integrating, and unstable processes without time delay. On the basis of the renowned internal model control (IMC) design principles and the two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) control structure, the proposed method can be effectively used for obtaining the enhanced performances of both the disturbance rejection as well as the set-point tracking problems, since the design scheme is simple, straightforward, and can be easily implemented in the process industry. Several processes without time delay are employed to demonstrate the improved closed-loop performance of the proposed controller design in compared with the other well-known design methods in terms of the same degree of robustness.

  • Due to the friction characteristics of pump, cylinder packing and passenger car, in the elevation system actuated with hydraulic inverter, there exist dead zones. which cannot be controlled by a PID controller. To overcome the drawbacks, in this paper, we propose a new hybrid fuzzy-sliding mode control scheme, which controls the controller output between a sliding mode control output and a PID control output by fuzzy control method. The proposed hybrid control scheme achieves an improved control performance by using both controllers. We first propose a design method of the hybrid controller far a hydraulic system controlled by inverters, then propose a design method of a hybrid fuzzy-sliding mode centre] scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is shown by simulation results, in which the proposed hybrid control method yields better control performance then the PID controlled scheme, not only in the zero-crossing speed region but also in the overall control region including steady-state region.

  • In this paper, it is proposed that the design of the PID controller with the internal model control structure for improved performance. Internal model was identification that is second-order plus dead time structure using final-value theorem and genetic algorithm The parameters of Controller are determined to minimize IAE(Integral of the Absolute value of the Error) and ITAE(Integral of the Time multiplied by the Absolute value of the Error) of performance index by internal model and numerical method. Simulation examples are given to show the better performance of the proposed method than conventional methods.

  • A novel control method involving an automatic tuning of digital PID controller parameters has been developed for better regulation of DO (dissolved oxygen) concentration in batch fermentation processes. Heuristic reasoning allows the PID controller to reach improved tuning decisions based upon the supervision of certain control performance indices in the same cognitive manner as in an expert control.

  • Method for regulating voltage using a generator voltage regulating device (AVR) is divided in an existing analog system and a digital replacement. Typically, to adjust the voltage by using a brushless excitation system of the type to be reduced for a voltage change under all. The control method of the AVR as a PID (proportional-integral-differential) control method is widely used. However, the control scheme is to reduce the transient response of the control parameters of the controller to the control object. Therefore, if the control target should change, there is a problem, reset the parameters of the controller again. In this study, without having to reset the parameters of the controller for the parameter variations to be controlled iPID (intelligent PID) using a controller designed to obtain a generator AVR system voltage variation is small in response to full load is applied to and through simulations and experiments improved transient response.

  • This paper proposes a traction control system (TCS) that uses a sliding mode wheel slip controller and a PID throttle valve controller. In addition, a yaw motion controller (YMC) is also developed to improve lateral stability using a PID rear wheel steering angle controller. The dynamics of a vehicle and characteristics of the controllers are validated using a proposed full-car model. A driver model is also designed to steer the vehicle during maneuvers on a split ${\mu}$ road and double lane change maneuver. The simulation results show that the proposed full-car model is sufficient to predict vehicle responses accurately. The developed TCS provides improved acceleration performances on uniform slippery roads and split ${\mu}$ roads. When the vehicle is cornering and accelerating with the brake or engine TCS, understeer occurs. An integrated TCS eliminates these problems. The YMC with the integrated TCS improved the lateral stability and controllability of the vehicle.

  • In this paper, the design method of a hybrid fuzzy controller with an optimal auto-tuning method is proposed. The conventional PID controller becomes so sensitive to the control environments and the change of parameters that the efficiency of its utility for the complex and nonlinear plant has been questioned in transient state. In this paper, first, a hybrid fuzzy logic controller(HFLC) is proposed. The control input of the system in the HFLC is a convex combination by a fuzzy variable of the FLC's output in transient state and the PID's output in steady state. Second, a powerful auto-tuning algorithm is presented to automatically improve the Performance of controller, utilizing the improved complex method and the genetic algorithm. The algorithm estimates automatically the optimal values of scaling factors and PID coefficients. Controllers are applied to the plants with time-delay and the DC servo motor Computer simulations are conducted at the step input and the system performances are evaluated in the ITAE.
