  • Purpose: This study was designed to test structural equation modeling of the quality of life of stroke survivors in order to provide guidelines for development of interventions and strategies to improve their quality of life. Methods: The participants in the study were patients who visited the neurology outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Seoul between June 25 and October 15, 2009. Data collection was carried out through one-on-one interviews. Demographic factors, functional independence, social support, nutritional status, post-stroke biobehavioral changes and quality of life were investigated. Results: The final analysis included 215 patients. Fitness of the hypothetical model was appropriate (${\chi}^2$=111.5, p=.000, GFI=.926, AGFI=.880, RMSA=.068, NFI=.911, CFI=.953). Functional dependency, social support and post-stroke biobehavioral changes were found to be significant explaining variance in quality of life. Post-stroke biobehavioral changes had the strongest direct influence on quality of life. Nutritional status had an indirect effect on the quality of life. Conclusion: To improve the quality of life of stroke survivors, comprehensive interventions are necessary to manage post-stroke biobehavioral changes, and strengthening social support networks that can contribute to enhancing the quality of life of stroke survivors.

Method: The subjects of this study were 377 freshmen of nursing colleges. Data were collected through structured questionnaires of sense of coherence and quality of life. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and canonical correlation analysis. Result: There was static correlation between sense of coherence and quality of life in the freshman nursing students. And high correlation with quality of life were meaningfulness in sense of coherence and psychological domain in quality of life. Conclusion: These results were shown very important to improve meaningfulness in sense of coherence and psychological domain in quality of life to raise the quality of life in the freshman nursing students. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of life, it is necessary to develop a nursing intervention program that focus on stress, and psychological health.

  • The Purpose of this study is to develop and test a nursing model which can be applied to prediction of the quality of life for the patient receiving hemodialysis. A hypothetical model was constructed on Johns & Meleis's empowerment model framework which has 3 contsructs(stress, resource, empowerment). 6 Factors(perceived stress, self-esteem as personal resource, perceived social support as social resource, perceived fertigue, perceived health status & self efficacy as empowerment) were selected to pre dict the quality of life of receiving hemodialysis patients. 4 Factors(self-esteem, perceived social support, perceived health status & self efficacy) had direct effects on the quality of life significantly. Self-esteem had indirect effect on the quality of life via perceived heath status significantly. Perceived social support had indirect effect on the quality of life via self-effcacy significantly. Perceived stress had no direct and indirect effect on the quality of life significantly. Revised model from hypothetical model showed better fit to the data by eliminating unsignificant path. From results of this study we suggest that to improve quality of life of hemodialysis patient nurses provide nursing interventions which improve self-esteem, perceived social support, self-efficacy & perceived health status.

  • Background: This study was aimed at obtaining basic data necessary to develop alternatives to improve the oral health-related quality of life of the elderly by investigating dry mouth and oral health-related quality of life of patients visiting the N Dental Clinic in Jeollanam-do. Methods: From November 2021 to September 2022, data were collected using a self-report survey of adults aged 50 years or older. Of the 300 questionnaires collected, 280 had insufficient data because of missing entries. Results: Analyzing the satisfaction level of oral health-related quality of life according to the participants' medical use and subjective oral health recognition, "what do you think your oral health is like" showed significant differences (p< 0.001). Dry mouth and satisfaction were positively correlated with the oral health-related quality of life (β=0.42, p= 0.00). Factors affecting the quality of life related to oral health were "total score of oral dryness" (β= 0.395) and "what do you think your oral health is like" (β=0.224). Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that systematic intervention, such as oral health programs, suitable for age may improve the oral health-related quality of life.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to test structural equation modeling of the quality of life of pre-dialysis patients, in order to provide guidelines for the development of interventions and strategies to improve the quality of life of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Methods: Participants were patients who visited the nephrology outpatient department of a tertiary hospital located in Seoul. Data on demographic factors, social support, nutritional status, physical factors and biobehavioral factors and quality of life were collected between March 4 and March 31, 2011. Results: In the final analysis 208 patients were included. Of the patients 42% were in a malnourished state. Anxious or depressed patients accounted for 62.0%, 72.6%, respectively. Model fit indices for the hypothetical model were in good agreement with the recommended levels (GFI=.94 and CFI=.99). Quality of life in pre-dialysis patients with CKD was significantly affected by demographic factors, social support, nutritional status, physical factors and biobehavioral factors. Biobehavioral factors had the strongest and most direct influence on quality of life of patients with CKD. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life in pre-dialysis patients with CKD, comprehensive interventions are necessary to assess and manage biobehavioral factors, physical factors and nutritional status.
