  • We proposed a video summarization algorithm based on an ERP (Event Related Potentials)-based topic relevance model, a MMR (Maximal Marginal Relevance), and discriminant analysis to generate a semantically meaningful video skim. We then conducted implicit and explicit evaluations to evaluate our proposed ERP/MMR-based method. The results showed that in the implicit and explicit evaluations, the average scores of the ERP / MMR methods were statistically higher than the average score of the SBD (Shot Boundary Detection) method used as a competitive baseline, respectively. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the average score of ERP/MMR (${\lambda}=0.6$) method and that of ERP/MMR (${\lambda}=1.0$) method in both assessments.

  • In this paper, for a seismic analysis of an offshore subsea manifold, Response Spectrum Analysis(RSA) and Time History Analysis(THA) were conducted under a various analysis conditions. Response spectrum and seismic design procedure have followed ISO19901-2 code. In case of THA, The response spectrum were converted into artificial earthquake history and both of Explicit and Implicit solvers were used to examine the characteristics of seismic analysis. For the verification, Various seismic analysis methods were applied on a single degree of freedom beam model and a simplified model of the actual manifold. The difference between the results of RSA and THA on the simplified manyfold model evaluated for the analysis of the actual manifold. Because THA is impossible in case of real complex structure such as a manifold, Safety of the actual manifold structure was accessed by using the RSA and the difference between the results of RSA and THA from the simplified model.

  • Recently, social network services have changed by moving towards an open platform where, as well as simply allowing the building of relationships among users, various types of information can be generated and shared. Since existing user reputation management methods evaluate user reliability based on user profiles, explicit relations, and evaluation, they are not suitable for determining user reliability on social media due to few explicit evaluation. In this paper, we analyze social activities on social media and propose a new user reputation management method that considers implicit evaluation as well as explicit evaluation. The proposed method derives positive and negative implicit evaluation from social activities, and generates user reputation information by field in order to consider user expertise. It also considers the number of users that participate in evaluation in order to measure user influence. As a result, it generates the reputation information of users who have no explicit evaluation and creates user reputation information that is more suitable for social media.

  • In this paper, we present a simple explicit type numerical method for discretizations in time for solving one dimensional Burgers' equations. The proposed method does not need an iteration process that may be required in most implicit methods and have good convergence and efficiency in computational sense compared to other known numerical methods. For evidences, several numerical demonstrations are also provided.

  • Multi-agent systems often need to achieve the goal of learning more effectively for a task through coordination. Although the introduction of deep learning has addressed the state space problems, multi-agent learning remains infeasible because of the joint action spaces. Large-scale joint action spaces can be sparse according to implicit or explicit coordination structure, which can ensure reasonable coordination action through the coordination structure. In general, the multi-agent system is dynamic, which makes the relations among agents and the coordination structure are dynamic. Therefore, the explicit coordination structure can better represent the coordinative relationship among agents and achieve better coordination between agents. Inspired by the maximization of social group utility, we dynamically construct a factor graph as an explicit coordination structure to express the coordinative relationship according to the utility among agents and estimate the joint action values based on the local utility transfer among factor graphs. We present the application of such techniques in the scenario of multiple intelligent vehicle systems, where state space and action space are a problem and have too many interactions among agents. The results on the multiple intelligent vehicle systems demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed methods.

  • The Cahn-Hilliard equation was proposed as a phenomenological model for describing the process of phase separation of a binary alloy. The equation has been applied to many physical applications such as amorphological instability caused by elastic non-equilibrium, image inpainting, two- and three-phase fluid flow, phase separation, flow visualization and the formation of the quantum dots. To solve the Cahn-Hillard equation, many numerical methods have been proposed such as the explicit Euler's, the implicit Euler's, the Crank-Nicolson, the semi-implicit Euler's, the linearly stabilized splitting and the non-linearly stabilized splitting schemes. In this paper, we investigate each scheme in finite-difference schemes by comparing their performances, especially stability and efficiency. Except the explicit Euler's method, we use the fast solver which is called a multigrid method. Our numerical investigation shows that the linearly stabilized stabilized splitting scheme is not unconditionally gradient stable in time unlike the known result. And the Crank-Nicolson scheme is accurate but unstable in time, whereas the non-linearly stabilized splitting scheme has advantage over other schemes on the time step restriction.

  • This is a geodetic study on the the shoreline changes occurred by the facilities constructed in the beach. There are emperical, hydrological and numerical methods in predicting of the shorline changes. Numerical method is the most suitable method in the field of geodesy. There are many predicting models. This study adopted one-line model because it has a few hydrological factor and simplify the natural phenomena. This study established the ideal seawall boundary condition, applied the explicit model and the implicit model in the Dongsan harbour in East Sea, and could predict the optimum seawall position for protection of shore. The results are following ; Seawall protect shore of which input angle of wave is below 20$^\circ$, a ratio of wave height bleak/line does not effect in shoreline changes. The implicit model is accuracy but can not predict longtime change. But the explicit model is the opposite of the implicit model.

  • A mutigrid convergence acceleration technique is presented for computing hypersonic inviscid and viscous flows in equilibrium state. The governing equations are solved using an explicit Runge-Kutta method. Curve fitting data in NASA Reference Publication 1181, 1260 are used to calculate equilibrium properties. In order to ensure stability, damped prolongation and modified implicit residual smoothing are proposed. Blunt body test cases are presented to demonstrate the robustness and the efficiency in performance of the proposed methods

  • Purpose: Implicit motor learning is the capacity to acquire skill through physical practice without conscious awareness of what elements of performance improved. This study investigated whether subacute stroke patients can implicitly learn a perceptual-motor task. Methods: We recruited 12 patients with subacute stroke and 12 age-matched controls. All participants performed a perceptual-motor task that involved pressing a button corresponding with colored circles (blue, green, yellow, red) on a computer screen. The task consists of 7 blocks composed of 10 repetitions for a repeating 12-element sequence (total 120 responses). Results: Both groups demonstrated significant improvement in acquisition performance. Reaction times deceased in both groups at similar rate within the sequential block trials (2-5 blocks), and reaction times increased at a similar rate when the task paradigm was transferred from the sequential block trial to the random block trial (5-6-7 blocks). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that patients with sub-actue stroke can implicitly learn a perceptual motor skill. Although explicit instructions should be used to focus the learner's attention rather than provide information about the task, the application of implicit motor learning strategies in the rehabilitation setting may be beneficial.

  • Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) is an appropriate framework for obtaining optimal designs by taking uncertainties into account. Large-scale problems with implicit limit state functions and problems with discrete design variables are two significant challenges to traditional RBDO methods. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a hybrid method to perform RBDO of structures that links Firefly Algorithm (FA) as an optimization tool to advanced (finite element) reliability methods. Furthermore, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and the FA are compared based on the design cost (objective function) they achieve. In the proposed method, Weighted Simulation Method (WSM) is utilized to assess reliability constraints in the RBDO problems with explicit limit state functions. WSM is selected to reduce computational costs. To performing RBDO of structures with finite element modeling and implicit limit state functions, a First-Order Reliability Method (FORM) based on the Direct Differentiation Method (DDM) is utilized. Four numerical examples are considered to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method. The findings illustrate that the proposed RBDO method is applicable and efficient for RBDO problems with discrete and continuous design variables and finite element modeling.
