  • The aim of this study is to analyze the daylight performance at Changdeokgung Nakseonjae that is the representative and most well preserved Korean royal palace. As a result of measuring illuminance and luminance, direct sunlight is cut off by the eaves and reflective light from the court comes in the inside of the upper floor. As the layer of window is increased, daylight is decreased and the illuminance distribution is more stable because of decreasing of illuminance change. This study would be used as preliminary data for applying characteristics of lighting environment of Korean royal palace to modern architecture.

  • In this paper it is examined the validity of luminance-to-illuminance conversion factor in the roadway lighting design. Luminance and illuminance distribution patterns were measured to yield the calculated conversion factor on the newly-constructed highway, and this value was compared to the conversion factor commonly used. We found that some discrepancy might exist between them due to difference in the values between the luminance yield factor and the coefficient of utilization. Therefore this fact must be fully understood in the roadway lighting design process.

  • Daylight illuminance are always changing. Nevertheless, when the energy savings due to daylight are calculated an accurate estimate of daylight availability is required. Where artificial lighting is photoelectrically controlled the relevant quantity is the cumulative distribution of daylight illuminance. This paper describes an experiment which measured daylight illuminance over one whole working year. Also using measured data on availability of daylight, equations are drived to predict the maximum possible savings from photoelectric controls for an interior lighting installation. The equations are applied to a space as a worked example and figures are given for the relative maximum savings in artificial lighting use of three control systems: on/off, dimming and mixed.

  • The existing building code regulates the minimum distance between buildings and the minimum required sunshine hours for winter solstice to ensure the right to light. Especially, the minimum sunshine hours have been guaranteed by the constitution after the right for the people to live in a healthy and comfortable environment was established. However, the existing regulation on the sunshine hours only considers the duration of sunshine hours, but ignores the minimum amount of sunlight. Therefore, the calculated sunshine hours are not coincident with the hours occupants actually feel. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of solar incident angle on interior illuminance distribution, which will be used to propose a new code on the minimum sunshine hours and levels.

  • In this research, an overlapped illumination model was newly proposed for designing a freeform LED lens with a uniform illuminance distribution on its illuminating plane. Based on the proposed model and conventional illumination models, freeform lenses were designed and their performances and tolerances were compared. As a result of the tolerance analysis about thickness change in lens, position, size change, central direction change of light emission and characteristic change in LED source. This proposed model and divergent illumination model are similar to the performance about central direction change of light emission in LED source. but the uniformity illumination value in this proposed model is more remarkably value than it in divergent illumination model about characteristic change in LED source.

  • The discusses of this study is that we combined the systems with a new type of LCOS optical engine and the latest color management of LMS to measure the distribution of illuminance, chromaticity and Contrast on the big size of the screen and we will focus on the distribution of temperature at the surface of the PS converter under the heat to evaluate the effectiveness of the heat dissipated faculty of the optical engine system. It will support that we design and fabricate the optics devices and optical engines.

  • In this paper, The Monte Carlo Simulation is performed in complex geometries which are composed of obstacles intercepted path of photon. Light is assumed to be particle and has particular direction and weighting value. The illuminance distribution is calculated proportional to the summation of weighting values striking area element. The result of simulation is consistent with that of experiments in a few error.

  • This paper has studied dissymmetrical light distribution design using the secondary optics in the simulation. fundamental Lambertian radiation distribution based on LED has been cut off by the secondary optics, and the first surface slope of lens and second surface slope of total reflection area have been calculated through formula. PMMA (the index of refraction: 1.49361) which is material of lens has been selected. critical angle($42.02993^{\circ}$) between Air and PMMA has been calulated by snell's law, and total reflection angle slope has been selected about $16.67^{\circ}$ to occur the total reflection. when the first surface slope and the second surface slope has been set up, Rays of all total reflection area have generated the total reflection. finally, designed LED Module has been estimated by Korean Industrial Standards for LED safety street lighting. dissymmetrical light distribution have been analyzed with reached effect of road illuminance, and average road illuminance which are each 70.6 lx, 40.35 lx, and 25.88 lx have been satisfied with Korean Industrial Standards for LED safety street lighting.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the CIE standard on lighting environments to Korea. In the field study, horizontal and the vertical illuminance was measured at the pedestrian road in the central business district of a city, and the questionnaires were conducted to get information regarding pedestrian's satisfaction with lighting environment. Four areas were selected for this survey. That areas have different type of pedestrian roads concerning the lighting conditions and the number of walkers. From the results of the measurements, It is known that the illuminance of pedestrian roads is different according to the lighting conditions and the number of poot passengers. Also the results of questionnaires show that the illuminance of the pedestrian roads affect to the pedestrian's satisfaction. Lastly, the CIE standard on lighting environments is applicable to the central business district of the cities in Korea.
