In order to investigate the prevalence of sexually transmitted viruses such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV) in Korean commercial sex workers (CSWs), we selected 188 CSWs (age range 20-44 years, median age 24 years) who regularly visited one public health center in Seoul, Korea. HPV genotypes were analyzed by using a HPV DNA Chip, and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect type-specific IgG against HSV2 antibody identifying seropositivity for HSV2 infection. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed with specific primers to detect HPV and HSV1/2 in cervical swabs from the CSWs. The prevalence of HPV infection was 83.5% in 188 cervical swab specimens and the main high-risk HPV genotypes were HPV16, 18, 56, and 58. The principal low-risk HPV genotypes were HPV6 and 11. The prevalence of HSV1/2 DNA was 13.8% and HSV2 seroprevalence was 86.2%. These results suggest that high frequencies of HPV and HSV2 infection might contribute to the rapid spread of STD viruses in CSWs in Korea. Additionally, an understanding of why high-risk HPV genotypes are so prevalent could provide guidelines for prophylactic vaccine development in Korea.

The Tsushima Current has been known to branch out from the Kuroshio west of Kyushu and to flow north to the Korea Strait. Then, it has to flow across the isobaths and so needs some driving forces. As the forces, sea level difference between the Korea and Tsugaru Straits, Reynolds stress west of Kyushu and density differences have been suggested, In this paper, their roles have been numerically studied in the barotropic case. Model results show that the Tsushima Current is possible without any above force. The flows just follow isobaths over the East China Sea. They seem to be driven by their own dynamics without any external force. The mechanism is just like outflows from a gap. Model results also show that the flows in this area could be significantly affected by the external forces such as Reynolds Stress. Then the dynamics and flows in real ocean might be complicated. However, the barotropic study tells us that the Tsuahima Currents is basically driven by geostrophic adjustment.

Adverse drug reactions(ADRs) were caused by dexran 40 in patient with ischemic stroke and related 22 patients reported to formal ADRs at Jesus Hospital in Jeonju. This study was aimed to search ADRs related factors, type and the degree associated with dextran 40. Adverse Effects of Dextran 40 is including marked hypotension, nausea, dyspnea, generalized urticaria, fever and pulmonary edema. The average hospitalization period was 20 days and it was extended 26.8%. ADRs of Dextran 40 to incidence is 12.4%, and 9 persons(28.1%), itching, rash was 7 people (21.9%). Dextran induced ADRs reaction may be reported on early injection period and first time shot, but adverse drug reactions occurred after 4 days in 4 patients(18.2%). US FDA has recommanded that Dextran 1 significantly reduces the incidence of severe ADRs in USA. Because low molecular weighted dextran 1 prevented dextran molecules from combined Ig G completely. In Korea. Generally not yet introduced dextran 1, active use dextran 1 is able to be a good way in order to reduce ADRs of dextran 40.

In this paper, we describe the performance degradation of satellite Wibro system and compensation method in the high-speed railroad channel environment. High-speed railroad channel environment is divided into LOS channel and tunnel. In the LOS channel, signal blocking caused by railroad power feeder structures can be a critical problem which is can be solved with antenna diversity. On the other hand, multi path interference phenomenon, representable by propagation model of Optic Fiber, occurred in the tunnel may be another obstacle. These satellite Wibro system performance degradations in railroad channel environment are addressed and adequate compensation methods are proposed and verified through computer simulation. In addition, the ICI caused by Doppler shift in OFDM system is analyzed with its compensation method.

Experimental drug was applied to a white male mouse taken ill with allergic contact dermatitis to investigate the effects of Yanghyulsamultanggamibang. 1. In case of skin moisture, when it was checked 72 hours later, there showed up meaningful differences among the normal, control, and sample groups. Especially, the moisture increased more noticeably in the sample group than in the control group. 2. With regards to RBC count in blood, it increased more in the control and sample groups than in the normal group when it was checked both in 24 hours and 72 hours. When it was checked in 48 hours, the number of RBC in the sample group increased the most, and the count in the control group increased more than in the normal group. 3. About the neutrophil rate in WBC count, it increased meaningfully more both on the control and sample groups than in the normal group in 24 hours. When the rate was checked in 48 hours, it increased the most in the sample group, and it increased more in the control group than in the normal group. When in checked72 hours later, it increased substantially more in the control group than both the sample and normal group. 4. As of the lymphocyte rate in WBC count, when measured in 24 hours, it increased in the normal group than in the control and sample groups. In 48 hours, it increased the most in the normal group, and it increased meaningfully more in the control group than in the sample group. 5. Regarding the total IgE, when measured 24 hours later, it increased noticeably more in the normal group than in the control and sample groups. In 48 hours, there showed up substantial differences among the normal, control and sample groups. In particular, it increased meaningfully more in the control group than in the sample group. 6. When the sample of skin tissue was examined, the corneal layer restoration increased more in the sample group than in the normal group. The above-mentioned results prove that Yanghyulsamultanggamibang can be taken when allergic contact dermatitis develops on the skin. Long-term observation afterward is also advised.

Objectives : Ulmus davidiana (UD) has been widely used in Korean herbal medicines used for treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases, such as rhinitis, asthma, and abscess. In this study, To investigated the protective effect of UD on type 1 allergic response, we determined whether UD inhibits early and late allergic response. Methods : The effect of UD was analyzed by ELISA and RT-PCR in RBL-2H3 cells. Levels of ${\beta}$ -hexosaminidase, interleukin (IL)-4 and TNF-${\alpha}$ were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). mRNA levels of COX-2 and T-helper type 2(Th2) cytokines were analyzed with RT-PCR. Results : We found that UD suppressed ${\beta}$-hexosaminidase release in RBL-2H3 not only by the PMA plus A23187 stimulation, but also by the IgE-DNP-HSA stimulation at the antigen-antibody binding stage and antibody-receptor binding stage. UD also significantly inhibited COX2 level, along with reduced Th2 cytokine levels, such as IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, GM-CSF, and TNF-${\alpha}$ in RBL-2H3. Conclusions : Our results indicate that UD protects against type 1 allergic response and exerts an anti-inflammatory effect through the inhibition of degranulation and expression of COX2 and Th2 cytokines.

The study was carried out to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the tube agglutination test (TAT), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the 2-Mercaptoethanol agglutination test (2-MAT) to detect human brucellosis patients in Korea. We examined 87 serum samples of people in the rural farm areas where bovine brucellosis had been reported. People in this study were divided into seven groups- farmers and their families, veterinarians, veterinary quarantine workers, livestock health control officers, artificial inseminators, livestock traders and healthy control individuals. Among 87 people, 65 were males and 22 were females ranging in age from 13 to 72 years. Of 87 serum samples, ELISA detected 21.84%, TAT detected 11.50% and 2-MAT detected 8.05% Brucella positive sera. Brucella specific IgG ELISA antibody titer was recorder higher in the individuals between the ages of 50 and 65 years. The highest prevalence rate of brucellosis(29.4%) was recorded in the cattle farmers and their family members followed by quarantine veterinary office workers (25%) and practicing veterinarians 01.1%). The majority of the Brucella sero-positive individuals in this study had a history of direct contact with animals.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the asthma-suppressive and immuno-regulatory effect of AHCR-HA (Root of Asarum sieboldii Miq. water extract) on OVA (ovalbumin)-induced asthma in mice. Methods : All C57BL/6 mice experimental groups, except the Normal and N-AHCR groups, were sensitized with OVA. The mice in the N-AHCR group and the OVA-AHCR group were treated with water extract of AHCR (1 %) by an oral administration, and the OVA-Saline group were treated with saline solution. Oral dosesof AHCR water extract and saline were administered for 8 weeks, three times a week. Results & Conclusion : The lung weight and total cells in the lungs of the OVA-AHCR group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Saline group. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF and photomicrographs of the OVA-AHCR group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Saline group. The collagen accumulation in the lung sections of the OVA-AHCR group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Saline group. The concentrations of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and IgE in BALF and the serum of the OVA-AHCR group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Saline group. The mRNA expressions of $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in the lungs of the OVA-AHCR group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Saline group.

Chemical analysis, measurement of pumping rates of 60 production wells and depth to water tables of 57 monitoring wells were carried to protect depletion of water resources and deterioration of water quality for the commercial portable ground-water. Borehole depth of production well averages 149m(31 boreholes), casing depth is 28m(29 boreholes), production rate is 70 $m^3$/day and depth to water table of monitoring well is 23.26m, respectively. The geology of 60 wells can be divided into Daebo granite(20), Okchun metarmorphic complex(18), Precambrian granitic gneiss(15), Bulguksa granite(4), Cheju volcanics(2), Cretaceous sedimentary rock(1). Average electrical conductivity and pH are 152$\mu$S/cm, and 7.35, respectively. The contents of major cation and anion predominantly $Ca^{2+}$>N $a^{+}$>M $g^{2+}$> $K^{+}$ and HC $O_{3}$$^{－}$ >S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$>Cl￣>F￣. Water type is predominantly $Ca^{2+}$-HC $O_{3}$$^{－}$(81.7%). It's possible that water chemistry of some wells were affected not only by the geology of boreholes penetrated but by inflows of surface water or shallow ground-water. Therefore, it is strongly necessary to steadily monitor the water quality and hydrogeologic conditins of production wells.ells.ls.ells.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to observe the suppressive effect of Asthma and Immune response improvement of FF(Farfarae Flos) Herbal-acupuncture into Joksamni(ST36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks. Experimental group was treated with concentration (1%) of FF-HA at Joksamni(ST36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). Results: 1. The weight and total cells in the mice lung treated with FF-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 2. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated with FF-HA decreased remarkably compared with those of control group. 3. The sticking of collagen on histological analysis of lung sections, the mice group treated with FF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 4. The concentrations of IgE, IL-4, IL-5 in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in serum of the mice group treated with FF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group 5. The number of Gr-l+/CDllb+, CDll+ cells, CCR3+ cells, CD4+ cells, and CD3e+/CD69+ in the lungs of the mice group treated with FF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 6. The mRNA expression of TNF-a, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in the mice group treated with FF-HA with RT-PCR decreased remarkably compared with those of control group. Conclusion : These result suggests that Farfarae Flos Herbal-acupuncture at Joksamni(ST36) in C57BL/6mice may be an effective part to OVA-induced asthma in C57BL/6 mice.
