신재생에너지 연계형 마이크로그리드의 하이브리드시스템 최적 설계 연구 (A Study on Optimal Design of Hybrid System of New and Renewable Energy-Linked Microgrid)

  • Microgrid, which enables the production and consumption of electricity to be done independently on a small scale, has been studied on one of the solutions of reinforcement for flexibility of electronic system. This study examined the application effect of new microgrid by applying hybrid battery in electric power storage device. We designed the system to highlight the advantage of each battery and complement the disadvantage by using hybrid system with Lithium-ion battery and interval Redox flow battery. It runs with lithium-ion battery during the initial startup while the Redox flow battery operates for a long time at the end of excessive period, and it enables a discharge of Lithium-ion and Redox flow battery at the same time when the load has a large output. We chose Maldives as a subject of this study for organizing and optimizing independent microgrid. Maldives is the country to accomplish 100% domestic electricity in South Asia, but the whole electric power is supplied through diesel generation imported fossil fuel. We organized and optimized microgrid for energy independence on Malahini island to solve Maldives energy cost problem and global energy environment matters. We analyzed the daily power supply and accumulated the power supply from September 18, 2018~February 11, 2019. The accumulated power supply was about 120.4 MWh and the daily power supply was about 800~1000 kWh. Based on the collected information, we divided the cases into three models which are only diesel generator, solar generator as well as diesel generator, and solar+ESS+diesel generator. We analyzed the amount of oil consumption compared to the cost of construction and power output. The result showed that solar+ESS+diesel generator was most economically feasible. As well, we obtained that our considering hybrid battery system reduced the fuel consumption for diesel power generation about 10~15%.

Distributed Database Design using Evolutionary Algorithms

  • The performance of a distributed database system depends particularly on the site-allocation of the fragments. Queries access different fragments among the sites, and an originating site exists for each query. A data allocation algorithm should distribute the fragments to minimize the transfer and settlement costs of executing the query plans. The primary cost for a data allocation algorithm is the cost of the data transmission across the network. The data allocation problem in a distributed database is NP-complete, and scalable evolutionary algorithms were developed to minimize the execution costs of the query plans. In this paper, quadratic assignment problem heuristics were designed and implemented for the data allocation problem. The proposed algorithms find near-optimal solutions for the data allocation problem. In addition to the fast ant colony, robust tabu search, and genetic algorithm solutions to this problem, we propose a fast and scalable hybrid genetic multi-start tabu search algorithm that outperforms the other well-known heuristics in terms of execution time and solution quality.

  • The harmonic reduction method of ac motor drive, ACL and DCL were commonly used, but the current distortion ratio was only 35%, thus the several different types of filters as BBHF(broad band harmonic filter), HHF(hybrid harmonic filter), NHHF(new hybrid harmonic filter) have been developed to satisfy the IEEE Std. 519 harmonic limitation. However, these filters had been limited marketability due to cost and size problems. This study suggests the methods to reduce cost and size of the harmonic filter including topologies, besides we discussed simulation results of the power system with regard to the implementation and performance of the filters.

A Novel Hybrid Sequential Start Control System for Large Inductive Loads

  • The inrush current of a large inductive load can be reduced with a soft starter; however, the large inrush current caused by simultaneous bulk starts (SBSs) cannot be effectively reduced. In order to reduce the high inrush current and voltage sag owing to the SBSs of large capacity inductive loads within a power network, a novel hybrid sequential start control system is proposed, implemented on embedded systems, and evaluated with a testbed in this study. From the experimental and simulation results of the proposed control system, the inrush current could be effectively restricted below the maximum current capacity of a power distributing board. Moreover, with the proposed system, power cost typically dictated by the peak power consumption can be fairly reduced, and the quality of the power system connected to the inductive loads can be efficiently increased.

  • The reactive and harmonic current components of dc loads can be compensated by the three-phase hybrid power filter (HPF) system. After compensation, the resulting current has sinusoidal and in-phase components with the source voltage. The HPF system is constructed by an active filter and passive filters. The passive filter reduce the 5th and 7th harmonic of the load current. The active filter compensates the remainder of the load current. 서해 도서지역의 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전에 대한 경제성 분석 (An Economic Feasibility Study of Wind-Diesel Hybrid Power Systems for an Island in the Yellow Sea)

  • 본 연구에서는 최대 발전량이 500kW인 서해 도서의 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템에 대한 경제성 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 위해 해당 도서에 대한 연간 전력 부하 변동치와 바람 데이터를 수집하고 분석하였으며, 풍력을 포함하여 신재생 에너지에 대한 하이브리드 최적화 모델로 미국의 NREL에서 개발한 Homer 프로그램을 이용하였다. 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템의 경제성을 판단하기 위해 풍속과 경유 가격을 변수로 하는 민감도 해석도 수행하였다. 그 결과, 현재의 조건에서는 경제성이 낮았으나, 풍속이 초속 3미터가 넘거나 경유 가격이 리터당 2.4달러를 초과할 경우 대상지역에도 풍력-디젤 하이브리드 발전시스템이 경제성을 갖는 것으로 평가되었다.

  • Partially earth anchored (PEA) can improve the structural safety and economic feasibility of multiple span cable stayed bridge (CSB). The PEA-CSB can restrain axial compressive load acting on a tower and reduce the global buckling length of a stiffened girder. For these reasons, structural members subject to axial forces can be effectively utilized and material quantity required for a steel deck can be reduced to save construction cost. In this study, the PEA system was verified for its application on a multiple span CSB. The CSB is a four-tower multi-span bridge which has a main span length of 500 m. As high tensile stress was generated at the top of the bridge decks at the mid-span between two main columns, a hybrid deck system for enhancing the bridge deck sections was proposed. While the composite sections made of concrete and steel were used near to the main columns, steel sections were used at the mid-span between two main columns.

  • It is necessary to change the existing design process to cope with a short life-cycle product and various customer's demands. Also a frequent design change may delay the whole design process and it will increase the unit cost of the production. New alternatives or techniques have emerged to solve the existing design problems, such as a knowledge based engineering, an intelligent CAD, a function based design, and so on. In this paper, we propose a hybrid design system with a knowledge based design methodology and a function based design technique. The knowledge based design is good at a frequent design change and the function based design is effective to extract a core design behavior. In an early design process, the system utilizes a core design behavior through the function based design process. On the other hand, the system manages complicated design issues with the knowledge based design technique in the detailed design process. We conclude that the hybrid design system can bring fair effects on implementing an efficient design environment in aspect of time and expense.

  • 최근 대기오염 물질의 배출, 소음, 과도한 운용비용, 안전성 및 위험 문제 해결을 위한 신개념 항공 추진시스템 개발에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 특히, 기존 항공추진시스템의 효율향상과 연료소모율 감소, 수소나 태양에너지 등 신재생에너지를 이용한 친환경적인 추진시스템 개발, 전기추진과 핵추진 시스템 개발 등을 통한 추력대 중량비가 높은 고효율의 신개념 항공기 개발에 대한 다양한 연구를 수행하고 있다. 이러한 신개념의 항공기 개발을 위하여 두 개 이상의 동력원을 조합하여 추진력을 얻는 하이브리드 추진시스템의 개발이 하나의 대안이 될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 미래의 친환경적 첨단 무인 항공기에 적용할 수 있는 하이브리드 추진시스템의 동향, 특징 및 개발방안, 발전방안 등을 고찰하였다.

Carbon nanotube/silicon hybrid heterojunctions for photovoltaic devices

  • The significant growth of the Si photovoltaic industry has been so far limited due to the high cost of the Si photovoltaic system. In this regard, the most expensive factors are the intrinsic cost of silicon material and the Si solar cell fabrication processes. Conventional Si solar cells have p-n junctions inside for an efficient extraction of light-generated charge carriers. However, the p-n junction is normally formed through very expensive processes requiring very high temperature (${\sim}1000^{\circ}C$). Therefore, several systems are currently under study to form heterojunctions at low temperatures. Among them, carbon nanotube (CNT)/Si hybrid solar cells are very promising, with power conversion efficiency up to 15%. In these cells, the p-type Si layer is replaced by a semitransparent CNT film deposited at room temperature on the n-doped Si wafer, thus giving rise to an overall reduction of the total Si thickness and to the fabrication of a device with cheaper methods at low temperatures. In particular, the CNT film coating the Si wafer acts as a conductive electrode for charge carrier collection and establishes a built-in voltage for separating photocarriers. Moreover, due to the CNT film optical semitransparency, most of the incoming light is absorbed in Si; thus the efficiency of the CNT/Si device is in principle comparable to that of a conventional Si one. In this paper an overview of several factors at the basis of this device operation and of the suggested improvements to its architecture is given. In addition, still open physical/technological issues are also addressed.
