In Part II, the paper will describe a three-phase alumina-based nanoceramic composite demonstrating superplasticity at a surprisingly lower temperature and higher strain rate. One important factor in the processing of these nanocomposites was the use of the electrical field assisted sintering method, SPS. These improvements in mechanical properties were briefly discussed in the context of the results from the microstructural investigations. SPS forming approach provides a new route for low temperature and high-strain-rate superplasticity for nanostructured materials and should impact and interest a broad range of scientists in materials research and superplastic forming technology.

Recently, variety of organic and inorganic hybrid materials have recently investigated as alternative routes to SiOC, $SiO_2$ thin film formation at low temperatures for applications in electronic ceramics. Specially, silicon based polymers, such as polycarbosilane, polysilane and polysilazane derivatives have been studied for use in electronic ceramics and have been applied as dielectric or insulating materials. In this study, Polycarbosilane(PCS), which Si-$CH_2$-Si bonds build up the backbone of the polymer, has been investigated as low-k materials using a solution process. After heat treatment at 350$^{\circ}C$ under $N_2$ atmosphere, chemical composition and dielectric constant of the thin film were $SiO_{0.27}C_{1.94}$ and 1.2, respectively. Mechanical property measured using nanoindentor shows 1.37 GPa.
With the development of modern microelectronics technologies, the power density of electronic devices is rapidly increasing, due to the miniaturization or integration of device elements which operate at high frequency, high power conditions. Resulting thermal problems are known to cause power leakage, device failure and deteriorated performance. To relieve heat accumulation at the interface between chips and heat sinks, thermal interface materials (TIMs) must provide efficient heat transport in the through-plane direction. We report on the enhanced thermal conduction of $Al_2O_3-based$ polymer composites, fabricated by the surface wetting and texturing of thermally conductive hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) nanoplatelets with large anisotropy in morphology and physical properties. The thermally conductive polymer composites were prepared with hybrid fillers of $Al_2O_3$ macro beads and surface modified h-BN nanoplatelets. Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has high thermal conductivity and is one of the most suitable materials for thermally conductive polymer composites, which protect electronic devices by efficient heat dissipation. In this study, we synthesized hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles by the pyrolysis of cost effective precursors, boric acid and melamine. Through pyrolysis at $900^{\circ}C$ and subsequent annealing at $1500^{\circ}C$, hexagonal boron nitride nanoparticles with diameters of ca. 50nm were synthesized. We demonstrate that the addition of a small amount of calcium fluoride ($CaF_2$) during the preparation of the melamine borate adduct significantly enhanced the crystallinity of the h-BN and assisted the growth of nanoplatelets up to 100nm in diameters. The addition of a small amount of h-BN enhanced the thermal conductivity of the $Al_2O_3-based$ polymer composites, from 1.45W/mK to 2.33 W/mK.

During the last two decades, many new filling materials and material groups have been developed. the number of available restoratives has increased dramatically, especially during the last 5 years. Ormocers are a new class of materials which are still under development with regard to dental applications. However, in the chemical literature these materials have been known for a long time and used for producing scratch resistant coatings on plastic spectacle lenses. It is a combination of inorganic and organic materials. 'Ormocer' is an abbreviation for 'Organically Modified Ceramics'. These compounds are also known in the literature as 'Ormosils' (organically modified silicates). Their chemistry is comparable to that of silicones and organic polymers. The purpose of this study was to determine of compressive strength and flexural strength of a ormocer (Admira) and to investigate the effects of water absorption in comparison with three composite resins(Z-100, Tetric Ceram, Surefil) and one compomer(Dyract AP). The following results were obtained ; 1. Admira had the lower compressive strength than Surefil, but no statistically difference with other materials at 1 day(p>0.05). 2. Admira had the lower flexural strength than all other materials at 1 day. From 2 days, Admits showed lower flexural strength than three composite resin(p<0.05). 3. There was not statistically significant difference of compressive and flexural strengths between hybrid composite resin group(Z-100, Tetric Ceram) and Packable resin group(Surefil) for experimental period(30 days)(p>0.05). 4. All five materials showed an increase in compressive and flexural strength till 2 days and showed a decrease from 7 days in water(p<0.05). 5. Each materials had the statistically similar behavior of compressive and flexural strengths over time(p>0.05).
Since Nd-Fe-B magnet was first synthesized in 1983, many new applications have emerged in the past two decades. With regard to motor market, it will expand because of strong energy saving requirements from the automobile and electric application markets. Especially, permanent magnet motors for hybrid and electric vehicles are drawing great attention and the usage of Nd-Fe-B magnets will increase all the more hereafter. There is, however, a serious problem as motors in such eco-friendly cars are said to operate in high temperatures of about $200^{\circ}C$. Nd-Fe-B magnet has a drawback of dramatically decreasing coercive force with the rise of temperature. In order to improve this aspect. the best way is to add dysprosium (Dy) into the magnet. So, Dy has become an essential element for Nd-Fe-B high-performance magnet as it helps to maintain coercive force even at high temperatures. On the other hand, the rare earth resources in the earth crust are eccentrically-located and its majority is produced in China. There is a need to reduce its usage as, especially compared to light rare earth elements as neodymium (Nd) and samarium (Sm), heavy rare earth elements including Dy are unevenly distributed to a dramatic degree, their output low, and their prices are about 10 times that of Nd. The present article includes a summary of the trend in research and development of motors and permanent magnets to solve rare-earth resources problem.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to derive and compare the inherent color (hue angle, chroma), translucency ($TP_{SCI}$), surface gloss (${\Delta}E^*_{SCE-SCI}$), and surface roughness ($R_a$) amongst selected shades and brands of three hybrid CAD/CAM blocks [GC Cerasmart (CS); Lava Ultimate (LU); Vita Enamic (VE)]. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The specimens (N = 225) were prepared into square-shaped ($12{\times}12mm^2$) with different thicknesses and shades. The measurements of color, translucency, and surface gloss were performed by a reflection spectrophotometer. The surface roughness and surface topography were assessed by white light interferometry. RESULTS. Results revealed that hue and chroma values were influenced by the material type, material shade, and material thickness (P < .001). The order of hue angle amongst the materials was LU > CS > VE, whereas the order of chroma was VE > CS > LU. $TP_{SCI}$ results demonstrated a significant difference in terms of material types and material thicknesses ($P{\leq}.001$). $TP_{SCI}$ values of the tested materials were ordered as LU > CS > VE. ${\Delta}E^*_{SCE-SCI}$ and $R_a$ results were significantly varied amongst the materials (P < .001) and amongst the shades (P < .05). The order of ${\Delta}E^*_{SCE-SCI}$ amongst the materials were as follows $LU>VE{\geq}CS$, whereas the order of $R_a$ was $CS{\geq}VE>LU$. CONCLUSION. Nano-ceramic and polymer-infiltrated-feldspathic ceramic-network CAD/CAM materials exhibited different optical, inherent color and surface parameters.

PURPOSE. Polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) materials, also called hybrid ceramics, are new materials in dental market. The manufacturer of the PICN material VITA Enamic suggests 3 different finishing procedures for this new material. In the present study, surface roughness and color differences caused from different finishing procedures of VITA Enamic were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 120 specimens were prepared in dimensions $2{\times}10{\times}12mm$ from VITA Enamic hybrid ceramic blocks with 'high translucency' and 'translucency 2M2' shades. The specimens were divided into 8 groups. For each group, different finishing procedures suggested by the manufacturer were performed. Surface roughness values were determined by a tactile portable profilometer. Color changes were evaluated using a clinical spectrophotometer. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc comparison. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}=0.05$. RESULTS. The roughest surfaces were observed in Glaze Groups. Their surface roughness values were similar to that of the control group. Clinical Kit and Technical Kit groups did not show a statistically significant difference regarding surface roughness (P>.05). The largest color difference regarding ${\Delta}E_{00}$ was observed in Clinical Kit finishing groups. There were also statistically significant color changes between the groups (P<.05). However, all the groups showed clinically acceptable color change (${\Delta}E_{00}$<2.25) except Clinical Kit Groups (${\Delta}E_{00}$>2.25). CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of the present study, it may be suggested that finishing the VITA Enamic restorations by Technical Kit instead of Glaze and Clinical Kit gives better clinical performance in regard to surface roughness and shade matching.

PURPOSE. The objective of the study was to analyze the impact of cement, bonding pretreatment, and ceramic abutment material on the overall color results of CAD-CAM ceramic crowns bonded to titanium-based hybrid abutments. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For single implant restoration of a maxillary lateral incisor a total of 51 CAD-CAM-fabricated monolithic lithium disilicate crowns were fabricated and subsequently bonded onto 24 lithium disilicate Ti-base abutments, 24 zirconia Ti-base abutments and 3 resin abutment replicas as a control group. The 48 copings were cemented with three definitive and one provisional cement on both grit-blasted and non-blasted Ti-bases. The color of each restoration and surrounding artificial gingiva was measured spectrophotometrically at predefined measuring points and the CIELAB (ΔEab) color scale values were recorded. RESULTS. The color outcome of ceramic crowns bonded to hybrid abutments and soft tissues was affected differently by cements of different brands. Grit-blasting of Ti-bases prior to cementing CAD-CAM copings affected the color results of allceramic crowns. There was a significant difference (P = .038) for the median ΔE value between blasted and non-blasted reconstructions at the cervical aspect of the crown. Full-ceramic crowns on zirconia Ti-base abutments exhibited significantly lower ΔE values below the threshold of visibility (ΔE 1.8). In all subcategories tested, the use of a highly opaque temporary cement demonstrated the lowest median ΔE for both the crown and the artificial gingiva. CONCLUSION. Various cements, core ceramic materials and airborne particle abrasion prior to bonding can adversely affect the color of Ti-base supported ceramic crowns and peri-implant soft tissue. However, zirconia CAD-CAM copings and an opaque cement can effectively mask this darkening.
${\beta}$-SiC powders were synthesized by a carbothermal reduction process using $SiO_2$-C precursors fabricated by a sol-gel process using phenol resin and TEOS as starting materials for carbon and Si sources, respectively. The C/Si molar ratio was selected as an important parameter for synthesizing SiC powders using a sol-gel process, and the effects of the C/Si molar ratio (1.4-3.0) on the particle size, particle size distribution, and yield of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders were investigated. It was found that (1) the particle size of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders decreased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio in the $SiO_2$-C hybrid precursors, (2) the particle size distribution widened with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio, and (3) the yield of the ${\beta}$-SiC powder production increased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio.
