  • This study aims to examine the extent to which youth householder's assets influence life satisfaction and whether depression mediates the relationship between assets and life satisfaction among youth householders. Using the 7th~11th panel data from the KOWEPS, this study employed fixed-effect model and Sobel-test to test the mediating effects. Key findings are as follows: First, this study found positive impacts of youth householder's assets on life satisfaction. Second, the effects of assets on life satisfaction were found to be mediated by depression of youth householders. These findings suggest that asset-based policies targeting youth should be expanded in Korea. This study concludes with several policy implications for development of more inclusive asset-based policies for youth.

  • The purposes of this study were to explore decision-making patterns of rural couples and to clarify the differences between socio-demographic variables related to the patterns. The data were gathered from 1,870 rural households through interviews with structured questionnaire in the 187 rural communities sampled by multi-staged cluster stratified sampling method in November 2005. A total of 1,106 farm households including householder and spouse participated in the interview. The results of this study were as follows: First, in general, mainly householder made decision-making in the areas of dealing with real estate and selling farm products, while spouse decided in the areas of choosing television channel and deciding living expenses. Second, there were no significant differences of patterns by age, education and income level. Third, decision-making patterns were significantly different by sex and family type. According to the results of the study, in farm household, 'pattern of mainly householder or husband decision-making' was high yet as regarding agricultural decision making. Therefore, researchers suggested that educational program could be helpful for rural couples to participate in practicing gender equity decision- making.

  • We present fast QR factorization algorithms $m{\times}n\;(m{\geq}n)$ Toeplitz matrix. These QR factorization algortihms are determined from the shift-invariance properties of underlying matrices. The major transformation tool is a stabilized/hyperbolic Householder transformation. The algortihms require O(mn) operations, and can be easily implemented on distributed-memory multiprocessors.

  • Micro Electric Vehicles are considered as a solution for reducing $CO_2$ emissions, however, it is difficult to evaluate its impact in a local community when it has been introduced. In this study, we evaluated how to spread the Micro EV within the community, using the utility derived from a multinomial logit model, and analyze the effect on $CO_2$ emissions. The householder's utility model is based on an investigation about Kiryu citizen's activities of shopping, transportation methods, etc. Using the geographic information system, we get the distances of each householder and the stores, and estimate a multinomial logit model about the combination choices of shopping stores and transportation method.

  • According to the change in diverse tendency of residents, construction companies has developed the brands of apartments with the concepts of LOHAS, well-being, ubiquitous, etc. The purpose of this study was to suggest space requirement and planning for residents characteristics. The questionnaire survey was adopted in this study and 252 cases were used for data analysis. The survey analysis has been made by using of SPSS WIN 12.0. The major findings were as follows; (1) Resident opinion about the direction of each space was investigated into the need of South-facing in master bedroom highly. (2) The residents didn't want to decrease the current size of each space, the space which wanted to increase was livingroom. (3) The significant variables of space requirement and planning for residents characteristics were family life cycle, the age of householder, the occupation of householder, the size of apartment.

  • We present a precedure for interpreting dipole-dipole apparent resistivity data. The procedure is constructed by combining a forward two-dimensional finite element modeling and an inverse technique with Householder's transformation. In the interpretation, subsurface structure is divided into some blocks with constant resistivities. Our inversion technique is tested on synthetic and field data. We found that geologic constraint is required for successful interpretation.

  • This paper analyzes how and why household debt distribution by the householder age has changed over the past decade both in Korea and the US. Data shows that the proportion of household debt held by younger households has decreased, while that held by older households has increased. Empirical analysis shows that a change in the demographic distribution of householders is the main driving force that has shifted the household debt distribution. Given that demographic aging is an inevitable trend, the proportion of household debt held by older households is also expected to increase. Therefore, the Korean government must preemptively prepare for the household debt problem, especially for debt held by older households, by strengthening macro-prudential policies, preventing asset price deflation, restructuring household debt contract structures, and reforming labor market inflexibility.

  • The purposes of this study were to explore amount of time use for paid work house work, child caring and leisure spent by adults and to explain its influencing factors. Tobit model was used to analyze the factors of time use because the amount of time use was a limited continuous variable. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Amount of time spent for paid work per day by adults was found to be 349 min. for men and 185 min. for women. Amount of time spent for house work was found to be 19min. for men and 155 min. for women. Amount of time spent for child caring was found to be 5min. for men and 40 min. for women. Amount of time spent for leisure was found to be 285 min. for men and 266 min. for women. 2) Time use for paid work was found to be significantly influenced by householder, age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, time limit and paid worker for women. Time use for house work was found to be significantly influenced by age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, age, marital status and paid worker for women. Time use for child caring was found to be significantly influenced by presence of kids and marital status for men and house, presence of kids, marital status and paid worker for women. Finally, Time use for leisure was found to be significantly influenced by car, time limit and paid worker for men and house, presence of kids, marital status, time limit and paid worker for women.

  • This paper presents a low complexity QR decomposition (QRD) architecture for MIMO detector. In the proposed approach, various CORDIC-based QRD algorithms are efficiently combined together to reduce the computational complexity of the QRD hardware. Based on the computational complexity analysis on various QRD algorithms, a low complexity approach is selected at each stage of QRD process. The proposed QRD architecture can be applied to any arbitrary dimension of channel matrix, and the complexity reduction grows with the increasing matrix dimension. Our QR decomposition hardware was implemented using Samsung $0.13{\mu}m$ technology. The numerical results show that the proposed architecture achieves 47% increase in the QAR (QRD Rate/Gate count) with 28.1% power savings over the conventional Householder CORDIC-based architecture for the $4{\times}4$ matrix decomposition.
