  • This study was conducted to investigate how the community values taught at home by parents affect the soundness of family life. The 914 participants in the sample were parents residing in Seoul. Major findings are described in the following: 1) The general level education of community-oriented values at home, which was measured by the level of parents' practice of community-oriented behavior, was very insufficient. 2) The soundness of family life was measured in six sub-areas. The six areas showed varying degrees of soundness, but the overall level of soundness was satisfactory. The conjugal relationship had the highest degree of soundness, whereas the general everyday atmosphere at home marked the lowest level. 3) The only significant independent variable that affected the practice of community values was the participants's subjective perception of their social class standing. 4) The level of practice of community values and social class variables were found to influence the soundness of family life. The level of practice of community values was an especially strong predictor in all areas of family soundness. In conclusion, the education of community values at home, measured by the parental practice of community-oriented behavior, positively influences the soundness of the family.

  • Because of the specificity of subjects belong to middle school curriculum of Home Economics Education of function training is very important. but it pointed out that the existing standards are out-dated, and because of it , it incongruent to our realities. Therefore, whenever the curriculum o education and the national textbook are reorgrnized periodically, the reform of standards of educational materials & facilities must be followed by it. But in my opinion, in korean middle school, especially in Home Economics Education, educational facilities are not reformed at a proper time. Therefore to enhance the qualities of experimentation/practice of Home Economics Education, in the first place, the preparation for the given conditions of standards of educational materials & facilities are needed. But the educational facilities of Home Economics Education have many problem not only in the qualitative aspect but also in the quantitative aspect. Two hundred sixty teachers, who had taught the units of 'Clothing Life' and responded to the questionnaires by mail from December 2007 to January 2008, were enrolled and each item in the questionnaires was analyzed in this study. Most teachers recognized the serious environmental issues in their residential area resulting in a harmful influence on their lives. Also they exhibited increased practice will such as joining to the environmental organizations and showed high practice of the environmental preservation. They commented relatively high rate of class practice on the contents relevant to the environmental education and enhanced practice of the environmental preservation in all units of 'Clothing Life' of the 7th 'Technology-Home Economics' curriculum except the units of 'Clothing Skill and Dress Clothes' and 'Simple Clothes Making'. Moreover, teachers with higher age and longer teaching career had the higher level of recognition and the greater rate of class practice on the environmental education compared to those without.
