  • Gas turbine performance is highly dependent on the engine performance which is closely related to the engine materials since they are exposed to severe working environments, i.e, high temperature and high stresses. For this reason, advanced materials with improved properties are required for the engine. The purpose of this research is to develop key materials technologies for aircraft industry and to tester domestic production of related parts. In this paper, the real-time prediction of high temperature creep strength and creep life for nickel-based superalloy Udimet 720(high-temperature and high-pressure the gas turbine engine materials) was performed on round-bar type specimens under pure load at the temperatures of 538, 649 and $704^{\circ}C$.

  • High strength concrete has been increasingly used in high rue building and it is very obvious re consider fire resistance performance of that. Unlike the normal strength concrete, high strength concrete in sudden elevating temperature at fire is susceptible to spalling with severe explosion and surface split, due to high density of concrete. In order to endure the spalling, inner space temperature of concrete should be control less than certain point. Therefore this study investigated the influence of covering materials on high strength concrete finishing spray-on materials of fiber composite spray mortar(FCSM). Both polypropylene(PP) and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) fiber were used in this test. Test showed that concrete, covering 18mm mortar containing PVA fiber and confining metal lath 2.3mm thickness, decreased 50% of main bar ambient temperature. compared with control concrete. In addition, concrete covering 18mm mortar without fiber caused falling of covering materials and then it was exposed in elevating temperature. As a result, spatting of the concrete occurred same as control concrete. However, concrete covering spray-on mortar containing PVA or PP fiber resisted spatting occurrence.

  • The microstructural evolution of a cast Ni base superalloy, IN738LC, has been investigated after long term exposure at several temperatures. Most of the fine secondary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles resolved after 2000 hour exposure at $816^{\circ}C$. At higher temperatures of $871^{\circ}C$ and $927^{\circ}C$, secondary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ resolved after 1000 hours of exposure, and cuboidal primary ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ grew with exposure time. During the thermal exposure, ${\sigma}$ phase formed at all tested temperatures, and ${\eta}$ phase was observed around interdendritic regions due to carbide degeneration. The influence of microstructural evolution during thermal exposure on the mechanical properties has been analyzed. The effects of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particle growth are more pronounced on the high temperature creep properties than on the room temperature tensile properties.

  • Nickel electrodeposition from sulfamate bath has several benefits such as low internal stress, high current density and good ductility. In nickel deposited layers, sulfur induces high temperature embrittlement, as Ni-S compound has a low melting temperature. To overcome high temperature embrittlement problem, adding manganese is one of the good methods. Manganese makes Mn-S compound having a high melting temperature above $1500^{\circ}C$. In this work, the mechanical properties of Ni-Mn deposited layers were investigated by using various process variables such as concentration of Mn$(NH_2SO_3)_2$, current density, and bath temperature. As the Mn content of electrodeposited layers was increased, internal stress and hardness were increased. By increasing current density, internal stress increased, but hardness decreased. With increasing the bath temperature from 55 to $70^{\circ}C$, internal stress of Ni deposit layers decreased, but hardness didn't change by bath temperature. It was likely that eutectoid manganese led to lattice deformation, and the lattice deformation increased hardness and internal stress in Ni-Mn layers. Increasing current density and decreasing bath temperature would increase a mount of $H_2$ absorption, which was a cause for the rise of internal stress.

  • Directional solidification experiments were carried out at 0.5-150 $\mu\textrm{m}$/s in the Co-base superalloy ECY 768. As increasing solidification rate, the dendrite length increased and it reached the maximum at 150 $\mu\textrm{m}$/s, where the tip temperature is close to the liquidus. The liquidus and eutectic temperatures could be estimated by comparing the dendrite lengths and the temperature gradients at the solid/liquid interface and those were estimated as $1424.6^{\circ}C$ and $1343^{\circ}C$ respectively. Between the dendrites just below final freezing temperature, MC carbide and $M_{23}$$C_{6}$ carbide were found. It was confirmed that the script or blocky shape was Ta or W-rich MC carbide, and the lamellar shape was Cr-rich eutectic carbide. The solid/liquid interface morphology clearly showed that the Cr-rich eutectic carbide formed just after the script type MC carbide.

  • Micron size Co-alloy 800 (T800) powder is coated on the high temperature, oxidation and corrosion resistant super alloy Inconel 718 substrate by the optimal high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating process developed by this laboratory. For the study of durability improvement of high speed spindle operating without lubricants, friction and sliding wear behaviors of the coatings are investigated both at room and at an elevated temperature of $1000^{\circ}F(538^{\circ}C)$. Friction coefficients, wear traces and wear debris of coatings are drastically reduced compared to those of non-coated surface of Inconel 718 substrate both at room temperature and at $538^{\circ}C$. Friction coefficients and wear traces of both coated and non-coated surfaces are drastically reduced at higher temperature of $538^{\circ}C$ compared with those at room temperature. At high temperature, the brittle oxides such as CoO, $Co_{3}O_{4}$, $MoO_2$ and $MoO_3$ are formed rapidly on the sliding surfaces, and the brittle oxide phases are easily attrited by reciprocating slides at high temperature through oxidation and abrasive wear mechanisms. The brittle solid oxide particles, softens, melts and partial-melts play roles as solid and liquid lubricants reducing friction coefficient and wear. These show that the coating is highly recommendable for the durability improvement coating on the machine component surfaces vulnerable to frictional heat and wear.

  • Dielectric capacitors are integral components in electronic devices that protect the electric circuit by providing modulated steady voltage. Explosive growth of the electric automobile market has resulted in an increasing demand for dielectric capacitors that can operate at temperatures as high as 400 ℃. To surpass the operation temperature limit of currently available commercial capacitors that operate in temperatures up to 125 ℃, Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3 (BNT), which has a large temperature-insensitive dielectric response with a maximum dielectric permittivity temperature of 300 ℃, was selected. By introducing an intentional A-site cation deficiency and post-heat treatment, we successfully manage to control the dielectric properties of BNT to use it for high-temperature applications. The key feature of this new BNT is remarkable reduction in dielectric loss (0.36 to 0.018) at high temperature (300 ℃). Structural, dielectric, and electrical properties of this newly developed BNT were systematically investigated to understand the underlying mechanism.

  • High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are characterized by having five or more main elements and forming simple solids without forming intermetallic compounds, owing to the high entropy effect. HEAs with these characteristics are being researched as structural materials for extreme environments. Conventional refractory alloys have excellent high-temperature strength and stability; however, problems occur when they are used extensively in a high-temperature environment, leading to reduced fatigue properties due to oxidation or a limited service life. In contrast, refractory entropy alloys, which provide refractory properties to entropy alloys, can address these issues and improve the high-temperature stability of the alloy through phase control when designed based on existing refractory alloy elements. Refractory high-entropy alloys require sufficient milling time while in the process of mechanical alloying because of the brittleness of the added elements. Consequently, the high-energy milling process must be optimized because of the possibility of contamination of the alloyed powder during prolonged milling. In this study, we investigated the high-temperature oxidation behavior of refractory high-entropy alloys while optimizing the milling time.

  • This paper describes the development of a piezoelectric level switch, which aims to effectively monitor the level status in high ambient temperatures. In order to adjust the impedance near the resonant frequency and temperature characteristics, the effect of the case and backing layer materials on its performance was analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). The suggested prototype new level switch has three heat-sink plates attached to SUS bar of 230 mm long, and case of PEEK which contains PZT sensing part. To illustrate the validity of this level switch, 10 samples are prepared and investigated the sensing performance through the high and low temperature ambient.

  • The chemical, electrical, and optical properties of ZnO and Al-doped ZnO films after high temperature annealing were studied. The resistivity increased significantly after annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ under $10^{-10}$ Torr atmosphere. The mechanism of the resistivity change was explored using photoemission spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectrometer. The results indicated that the amount of oxygen deficient region O-Zn bonds decreased and oxygen vacancy was decreased after the high temperature vacuum annealing. The increase in the resistivity of ZnO and Al-doped ZnO films was resulted from the decrease in carrier concentration due to a decrease in the amount of oxygen deficiency.
