  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between school life stress, self-esteem and health promoting behaviors(HPB) of specialized high school students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 337 specialized high school students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows. The mean scores of male in HPB and self-esteem, were higher than that of female, however the mean score of female in school life stress was higher than that of male. The gender(p<.001), grade(p<.05), and health status(p<.001) affected the HPB significantly. The school life stress showed a significantly negative correlation with HPB, but the self-esteem showed a significantly positive correlation with HPB. Result of multiple regression analysis showed that the two factors, that were school life stress and self-esteem, affected the HPB significantly(p<.001) and made a 48% prediction. In conclusion, this study suggests that school life stress and self-esteem are significant influencing factors on HPB among specialized high school students. The effective HPB program and systematic health education are needed to increase the HPB of specialized high school student.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of registration of interventional studies focusing on children and adolescents in South Korea and the status of Korean medicine interventional studies through Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS). Methods CRIS was used to search interventional clinical researches which were registered from May, 2010 to October, 2018. Key words of 'child', 'children', 'adolescents', 'infant', 'toddler', 'elementary school student', 'middle and high school', 'middle school student', and 'high school student' were used. Results A total of 37 intervention clinical studies were selected. To identify the trends, years of registration in the CRIS, intervention types, disease categories, recruitment status, phase, institutions responsible for the research, consent, compensation and safety investigation were analyzed. Conclusions This study shows the current state of registration of interventional studies in children and adolescents in Korea. Since interventional studies in children and adolescents are essential for providing safe and effective treatment, further interventional studies, Korean medicine interventional studies and ethical considerations are needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest Reciprocal Peer Tutoring(RPT) for mathematics underachieving students as one way of the instructional strategies to supplement their lack of mathematics learning and to provide them with successful experiences in learning mathematics. We defined underachieving student in mathematics as the student whose mathematics achievement was high or middle level in the middle school but became lower in high school. Four mathematics underachievers voluntarily participated in this study. We examined the effects and roles of RPT by focusing on their positive change in the affective domain. RPT was conducted for about three months, including pre-training, pretest, and posttest. As the results of this research, RPT has generally made positive changes in the affective domain of underachieving mathematics students. Although four students did not show the same pattern of change and the sub-elements of positive change were different for each student, RPT provided opportunities for 4 all students to experience positive change.

  • This study was to propose new formats for the records of achievement and the student's school life. For the college entrance examination to select excellent students with great potential and for the public education to be normalized through performance assessment, the implications of the reformats of the student achievement are significant. To carry out the study, 658 of students, 230 of teachers from 4 middle schools and 10 high schools, and 24 of college admission officers from 8 universities participated in the questionaries that asked the problems of the current assessment system and the future directions based on the desirable reformats of the school records. The collected opinions and advices from the participants were considered to understand the current status, possible directions, and ways to apply the performance assessment to the college entrance examination.

  • Current medical students are a distinct new generation who can be distinguished from the previous generation. Therefore, a clear understanding of their characteristics is vital in developing an appropriate educational program for them. The purpose of this article is to explore the characteristics of the current generation of high achieving medical students. Notable characteristics that define this generation include the following: they feel they are special, and they are sheltered, confident, highly optimistic, pressured, conventional, and have a strong desire to achieve. They are the digital generation, who can obtain information through various forms of technology. Furthermore, they are high achieving students in highly competitive educational environments. It has been suggested that various teaching methods be used in the medical school classroom. Using digital methods could be crucial in providing high-quality medical education. Educators should pay more attention to students' psychosocial development and help them to effectively cope with their academic stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of a study on the psychological state, lifestyle, self-management ability, and academic adaptation of medical students, and to present examples of improvement of a student support center based on the results. A medical school in Daegu has been surveying the living conditions of students every year for 6 years since 2016. More than 60% of medical students experienced depression and more than 70% experienced stress, but these rates have significantly improved over the past 5 years. There were many cases of drinking or smoking to relieve stress, but the frequency of drinking recently decreased substantially. Some students had difficulties in emotional regulation (11.5%) and time management (16.6%), and challenges in planning and self-management increased significantly during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The satisfaction and adaptability of medical students are high, but the number of students who are not satisfied with but negative response rate is 2%-3% in every year. However, satisfaction has significantly increased in tandem with curriculum changes and COVID-19. Based on these data, the counseling system was reorganized to support psychological stability, the medical humanities curriculum was improved, and changes in actual quality of life were induced by developing and operating non-curricular programs. Furthermore, standardized questionnaires will be developed and data from many medical schools will be shared, which is expected to support medical students more effectively.

  • Student understanding of the nature of science is necessary not only because it is helpful for solving everyday problems with growing science literacy, but also because it influences students' science learning. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate student views on the nature of science under the 7th national curriculum and compare with those before the 7th national curriculum in order to probe the elements which contribute to changes in student views on the nature of science. A significant number of differences were found between subdimensions of views on the nature of science through the comparison. High school students under the 7th national curriculum had more relativistic, instrumental, and deductive but less process-oriented views than high school students before the 7th national curriculum. The differences between mean values which showed high school student views on the nature of science under and before the 7th national curriculum were significant, except for the subdimension of instrumentanlism/realism. In particular, high school students under the 7th national curriculum possessed a contextual view, whereas those before the 7th national curriculum possessed a decontextual view. Although other factors might be the cause for differences found in this study, we argued by discussion that differences among textbook contents seemed to be the major factor.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the method of English teaching and learning through the student-centered environmental instruction. I've been skeptical about the traditional instruction, which is composed of the teachers-centered instruction, because of the lack of creativity. Until now, I've always wished to have an alternative method that can be substituted for routine's style. To achieve it, I selected 90 students from 2 classes, in the 3rd year at a girls' high school in Chungnam as the subject of study. I divided them into two groups, the student-centered environmental instruction and the teacher-centered traditional instruction. The tools used in this study are a preliminary English achievement test, a self-directed learning attitudes test and two teaching plans. For this test, a high school text book was assigned. I have treated 20 times of the test each for two groups using two types of teaching-learning plans which I made for this purpose. To verify the hypotheses after administrating the test, I selected t-verification for post test result. Based on this test result, I could conclude that there was a significant improvement of English proficiency and a change in the self-directed learning attitudes; also the student-centered environmental instruction is more effective than teachers-centered instruction.
