$MIEX^{(R)}$+응집공정을 이용한 한외여과 공정의 최적화 : 다양한 전처리 공정의 적용에 따른 막 오염 현상 규명 (Optimization of Ultrafiltration Process using $MIEX^{(R)}$+Coagulation Process)

  • 전처리 공정에 따른 투과 flux 변화를 살펴보면 $MIEX^{(R)}$+UF 공정의 경우 응집+UF 공정에 비하여 높은 유기물 제거율을 나타내었으나 투과 flux 감소는 크게 나타났다. 따라서, 막 오염을 자세하게 규명하기 위하여 sequential filtration 실험결과 막 오염물질은 고분자 유기물질로 나타났으며, DOC 0.5 mg/L 이하의 유기물질이 막 오염 유발물질로 작용하고 있었다. 10 kDa 이하의 저분자 유기물질들은 $MIEX^{(R)}$ 처리에 의해 제거가 용이하여 막 표면에서 유기물 부하를 감소시켜 이로 인해 응집+UF공정에 비하여 투과 flux 감소율이 낮게 나타났다. $MIEX^{(R)}$+UF공정은 입자상 물질의 존재 유무에 관계없이 flux 감소율은 거의 유사한 경향을 보였으나 응집+UF공정은 용존성 유기물질만이 존재하는 시수에 비하여 입자상 물질이 존재하는 경우에 투과 flux 감소가 더 낮게 나타났다.

호소수 탁도변화 대응을 위한 고플럭스 막여과공정의 Pilot 연구 (A pilot study of high flux membrane process for responding to influent turbidity changes in reservoir water)

  • In the membrane process, it is important to improve water treatment efficiency to ensure water quality and minimize membrane fouling. In this study, a pilot study of membrane process using reservoir water was conducted for a long time to secure high flux operation technology capable of responding to influent turbidity changes. The raw water and DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation) treated water were used for influent water of membrane to analyze the effect of water quality on the TMP (Trans Membrane Pressure) and to optimize the membrane operation. When the membrane flux were operated at 70 LMH and 80 LMH under stable water quality conditions with an inlet turbidity of 10 NTU or less, the TMP increase rates were 0.28 and 0.24 kPa/d, respectively, with minor difference. When the membrane with high flux of 80 LMH was operated for a long time under inlet turbidity of 10 NTU or more, the TMP increase rate showed the maximum of 43.5 kPa/d. However, when the CEB(Chemically Enhanced Backwash) cycle was changed from 7 to 1 day, it was confirmed that the TMP increase rate was stable to 0.23 kPa/d. As a result of applying pre-treatment process(DAF) on unstability water quality conditions, it was confirmed that the TMP rise rates differed by 0.17 and 0.64 kPa/d according to the optimization of the coagulant injection. When combined with coagulation pretreatment, it was thought that the balance with the membrane process was more important than the emphasis on efficiency of the pretreatment process. It was considered that stable TMP can be maintained by optimizing the cleaning conditions when the stable or unstable water quality even in the high flux operation on membrane process.

세라믹 막여과의 성능향상을 위한 응집 전처리의 적용 (Application of coagulation pretreatment for enhancing the performance of ceramic membrane filtration)

  • In this study, it is estimated that ceramic membrane process which can operate stably in harsh conditions replacing existing organic membrane connected with coagulation, sedimentation etc.. Jar-test was conducted by using artificial raw water containing kaolin and humic acid. It was observed that coagulant (A-PAC, 10.6%) 4mg/l is the optimal dose. As a results of evaluation of membrane single filtration process (A), coagulation-membrane filtration process (B) and coagulation-sedimentation-membrane filtration process (C), TMP variation is stable regardless of in Flux $2m^3/m^2{\cdot}day$. But in Flux $5m^3/m^2{\cdot}day$, it show change of 1-89.3 kpa by process. TMP of process (B) and (C) is increased 11.8, 0.6 kpa each. But, the (A) showed the greatest change of TMP. When evaluate (A) and (C) in Flux $10m^3/m^2{\cdot}day$, TMP of (A) stopped operation being exceeded 120 kpa in 20 minutes. On the other hand, TMP of (C) is increased only 3 kpa in 120 minutes. Through this, membrane filtration process can be operated stably by using the linkage between the pretreatment process and the ceramic membrane filtration process. Turbidity of treated water remained under 0.1 NTU regardless of flux condition and DOC and $UV_{254}$ showed a removal rate of 65-85%, 95% more each at process connected with pretreatment. Physical cleaning was carried out using water and air of 500kpa to show the recovery of pollutants formed on membrane surface by filtration. In (A) process, TMP has increased rapidly and decreased the recovery by physical cleaning as the flux rises. This means that contamination on membrane surface is irreversible fouling difficult to recover by using physical cleaning. Process (B) and (C) are observed high recovery rate of 60% more in high flux and especially recovery rate of process (B) is the highest at 95.8%. This can be judged that the coagulation flocs in the raw water formed cake layer with irreversible fouling and are favorable to physical cleaning. As a result of estimation, observe that ceramic membrane filtration connected with pretreatment improves efficiency of filtration and recovery rate of physical cleaning. And ceramic membrane which is possible to operate in the higher flux than organic membrane can be reduce the area of water purification facilities and secure a stable quantity of water by connecting the ceramic membrane with pretreatment process.

알코올 농축을 위한 투과증발막의 특성 및 조업변수 연구 (Characterization of Pervaporation Membranes and Its Operation Parameters for Alcohol Concentration)

  • 상업용 PDMS(polydimethylsiloxiane) 복합막과 플라즈마 처리된 PP(polypropylene)막을 사용하여 투과증발에 의한 알코올 농축을 수행하였고, 공정 조업 변수에 따른 영향을 조사하였다. PDMS막에 대한 부탄올의 친화력과 물의 친화력보다 크기 때문에 공급액의 부탄올 농도가 증가함에 따라 투과량의 선택도가 모두 증가하였다. 조업 온도가 증가함에 따라 고분자 사슬내의 자유 부피)free volume)가 증가하고 막에 대한 알코올과 물의 용해도 및 확산계수도 증가하여 투과량은 증가하였지만, 선택도는 감소하였다. PDMS 막과 용해도 계수(solubility parameter)값의 차가 적은 알코올일수록 높은 투과량과 선택도를 나타내었다. PP막을 메탄올로 플라즈마 처리한 경우 PDMS 복합막과 유사한 분리효율을 나타내면서도 투과량은 6배나 증가하였다. 플라즈마 처리 시간에 따라 투과량과 선택도는 모두 향상되었으나 일정 시간 이후에는 기공의 막힘 현상으로 투과량은 감소하였다.

파일럿 규모 막 증발 공정 적용을 위한 직접 접촉식 모듈의 투과유속 및 열에너지 이동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flux and Heat Transfer of Direct Contact Type Module Applied for a Pilot Scale Membrane Distillation Process)

  • In this study, a direct contact membrane module was manufactured to be used in a pilot scale membrane distillation process to treat $3m^3/day$ of the digestate produced from anaerobic digestion of livestock manure. In order to investigate the performance of the membrane module, permeate flux was measured with and without spacer inside the module under various condition of temperature difference and cross flow velocity (CFV) through the membrane surfaces. Flux recovery rate after chemical cleaning was also investigated by applying three different cleaning methods. Additionally, thermal energy consumption was theoretically simulated based on actual pilot plant operation conditions. As results, we observed flux of the module with spacer was almost similar to the theoretically predicted value because the installation of spacer reduced the channeling effect inside the module. Under the same operating condition, the permeate flux also increased with increasing temperature difference and CFV. As a result of chemical in-line cleaning using NaOCl and citric acid for the fouled membranes, the recovery rate was 83.7% compared to the initial flux when NaOCl was used alone, and 87% recovery rate was observed when only citric acid was used. However, in the case of using only citric acid, the permeate flux was decreased at a rapid rate. It seemed that a cleaning by NaOCl was more effective to recover the flux of membrane contaminated by the organic matter as compared to a cleaning by citric acid. The total heat energy consumption increased with increasing CFV and temperature difference across the membrane. Thus, further studies should be intensively conducted to obtain a high permeate flux while keeping the energy consumption to a minimum for a practical application of membrane distillation process to treat wastewater.

Fouling control in a woven fibre microfiltration membrane for water treatment

  • Current available commercial membranes are not robust and are therefore destroyed if left to dry out or handled roughly. Woven fibre microfiltration (WFMF) membranes have advantages over its competitors with respect to durability, thus, favourable for the developing economies and operation during rough conditions. Evaluation of the effects of aeration and brushing as a flux enhancement strategies for WFMF membrane was the purpose of this study. The WFMF membrane was found to be susceptible to pore plugging by colloidal material and adsorption/attachment by microbiological contaminants. This led to a 50% loss in flux. Aeration as a single flux enhancement strategy proved insufficient to maintain high flux successfully. Therefore combined flux enhancement strategies yielded the best results.

  • 폴리프로필렌 다공성 분리막은 산, 알칼리에 대한 내화학성이 좋고, 기계적 성질이 우수하며 높은 열적 안정성을 가지고 있으나, 막의 소수성 때문에 일부 영역에만 사용이 제한되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 소수성 막의 성능을 향상시키기 위해서 방사선 조사에 의한 그라프트 중합법을 사용하여, 친수성 작용기 (-COOH, -OH)를 갖는 acrylic acid (AAc)와 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (MEMA)를 도입하였다. 이때 반응시간, 반응온도, 조사량, 간의 첨가 효과, 팽윤현상에 의한 그라프트율의 변화를 조사하였다. 분리막의 기공크기를 분석하는 방법으로 행한 가스투과 실험에서 단량체의 종류와 관계없이 그라프트가 증가함에 따라 가스 투과속도가 감소함을 보였고, 오일 에멀젼 투과실험에서 미개질 폴리프로필렌 막의 오염현상은 크게 발생하였으나, 그라프트 중합 후, 높은 투과속도를 유지하여 막의 친수화 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다.

  • The ultrafiltration behavior of dilute colloidal solution containing Si particles has been investigated. The experiments in cross flow mode have been performed at different operating condition by using the membrane with 20 kDa cut-off. The flux decline was due to the development of membrane fouling which was a dynamic process of two distinctive stages. For the high trans-membrane pressure, the pore blocking resistance was dominant at the initial period of filtraion and was followed by the cake resistance. And for the low cross flow velocity, the membrane fouling was governed by the cake filtration model at the initial stage of filtration process. Flux jump was observed temporally during the membrane filtration of mixed feed solution.

  • Ultrafiltration membranes base on copoly(amide-imide) derivatives were prepared by the phase inversion method and the factors determining the permeation characteristics of membrane were investigated. The permeation behavior was observed by the relative ratio of permeate flux (J$\_$t/)/pure water flux (J$\_$o/). The characteristics through membrane were measured using aqueous solution of poly(ethyleneglycol) (MW 2.0$\times$10$\^$4/) over a temperature range of 10∼90$\^{C}$. With increasing the operating temperature, the relative ratio of flux became high. All the membranes had good chemical stability. Copoly(amide-imide) membranes having various Permeation properties could be obtained. Further, it was proved that the membrane performances could be determined from the preparation conditions as well as various operating conditions.

양성전해질 고정막의 제조 및 그것의 금속이온 흡착 특성 (Preparation of Ampholyte Grafted Hollow-fiber Membrane and Its Adsorption Characteristic on Metallic Ions)

  • 본 연구는 양성전해질막의 금속이온 특성을 조사하기 위하여 Taurine (TAU)막을 제조하였다. 제조방법으로는 방사선조사법에 의한 Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)의 중공사막 표면위에 고정시키고, 이후 Taurine의 염기성 부분인 $-NH_2$기(amine fuction)와 GMA의 glycididyl의 개환 반응을 통하여 안정된 막을 형성하도록 하였다. 한편 TAU막과 비교를 위해 GMA가 고정된 중공사 막에 Sodium sulfite로 화학적 결합을 형성 SS막을 제조하였다. 이렇게 제조된 TAU막의 타우린 밀도가 높아져도 투과유속은 0.9 m/h로 변화 없으나, SS막은 술폰산기의 밀도가 높아짐에 따라 투과유속이 급격히 감소하는 것을 나타내었다. 타우린 밀도가 0.8 mmol/g인 막을 사용한 결과 금속이온의 량은 Cu > Cd > Mg > Sb > Pb의 순으로 나타내었다. 전반적으로 타우린막은 전화율과 밀도의 증가에 따라 많은 양의 금속이온 흡착과 높은 투과유속을 나타내었다.
