  • In this paper, we propose the MDBMS(Multi-DataBase Management System) which integrates the LDBMSs(Local DataBase Systems) with heterogeneous environment into distributed system and provides global users with rapidly query process. For designing the MDBMS, we define the functions of components and design the interaction among them. In a point of view of the global view manager in components, we describe the following 3 cases; (1)the case which the results for the global query are all stored to the global view repository, (2)the case which no result exists in the global view repository, and (3)the case which the partial results we stored to the global view repository. By comparing above cases, we establish the functionalities of our MDBMS through the sequence diagram including the interlace of among objects and the method calling. Finally, we propose the model designed in the concrete by showing the executing procedures of each function using sample query on established functions mentioned above.

  • Parallel computing system components should be harmonized, and this harmonization is kept existent using synchronization time. Synchronization time affects the system in two ways. First, if we have too little synchronization time, some tasks face the problem of harmonization, as they need appropriate time to update and synchronize with the system. Second, if we allocate a large amount of time, stall system created. Random allocation of synchronization time for parallel systems slows down not only the booting time of the system but also the execution time of each application involved in the system. This paper presents a simulator used to test and allocate appropriate synchronization time for distributed and parallel heterogeneous systems. The simulator creates the parallel and heterogeneous system to be evaluated, and lets the user vary the synchronization time to optimize the booting time. NS3-cGEM5 simulator in this paper is formed by HLA-RTI federation integration of the two independent architecture and network simulators - NS3 and cGEM5. Therefore, nodes created on these simulators need synchronizations for harmonized system performance. We tested and allocated the appropriate synchronization time for our sample parallel system composed of one x86 server and three ARM clients.

  • The objective of Distributed Parallel Computing is to solve the computationally intensive problems, which have several types of parallelism, on a suite of high performance and parallel machines in a manner that best utilizes the capabilities of each machine. In this paper, we propose a computational model including the generalized graph representation method of distributed parallel systems for speedup analysis, and analyze how the super-linear speedup is achieved when scheduling of programs with diverse embedded parallelism modes onto a distributed heterogeneous supercomputing network environment. The proposed representation method can also be applied to simple homogeneous or heterogeneous systems whose components are heterogeneous only in terms of the processor speed. In order to obtain the core speedup, the matching of the parallelism characteristics between tasks and parallel machines should be carefully handled while minimizing the communication overhead.

  • This study presents a comparison of different protocols for the synthesis of iron-loaded zeolites, and the results of their application, as well as that of zeolite-A (Z-A), to the removal of ammonium and phosphate from aqueous media. Zeolites prepared by three methods were evaluated: iron-incorporated zeolites (IIZ), iron-exchanged zeolites (IEZ), and iron-calcined zeolites (ICZ). The optimal iron content for preparing of IIZ, as determined via scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses, expressed as molar ratio of $SiO_2:Al_2O_3:Fe$, was below 0.05. Ammonia removal revealed that the iron-loaded zeolites have a higher removal capacity than that of Z-A due, not only to ion-exchange phenomena, but also via adsorption. Greater phosphate removal was achieved with IEZ than with ICZ; additionally, no sludge production was observed in this heterogeneous reaction, even though the coagulation process is generally accompanied by the production of a large amount of undesired chemical sludge. This study demonstrates that the developed synthetic iron-loaded zeolites can be applied as a heterogeneous nutrient-removal materials with no sludge production.

  • In a centralized database system, all system components reside at a single platform. In recent years there has been a rapid trend toward the integration of information systems over multiple sites that are interconnected via a communication network, and users' needs are changed to integration of multiple information sites. Multi database System is one of solutions for integrating distributed heterogeneous databases. However the problems in multi database system are restriction in distributed environment support, limitation in integrating heterogeneous media type data, static integration, and data-only of integration. In order to solve these problems, we propose a hybrid database integration model, HyDIM. HyDIM is used for the integrating legacy multimedia data, adopting CORBA, MDS, and mediator. We demonstrate a prototype system far PDM application domain.

  • Mesoporous carbon-silica composites supported Pt nanoparticle catalysts (Pt/MCS) were firstly applied to the heterogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of ethyl 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyrate (EOPB). A series of different silica contents were investigated in the fabrication of this mesoporous material. When the volume of added tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) during the preparation of composites is 8 mL, Pt/MCS-8 holds carbon and silica as the main components and possesses relatively strong acidity, mesoporous structures with micropores, appropriate Pt nanoparticle size and high dispersibility showing by XRD, XPS, TPD, $N_2$ sorption and TEM. These properties cause its good catalytic performance in the heterogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of EOPB with the enantiomeric excess value and conversion up to 85.6% and 97.8%, respectively.

  • In this paper, we discuss an effort to develop a multi-agent architecture through which heterogeneous applications communicate and cooperate by means of plug-and play mechanism. Three componets are created in order to challenge the plug-and-play mechanism : meta-information, PnP agent module, and ICM. The meta- information is used to automatically set up a suitable configuration for a new plugged application, eliminating the need for direct addressing among heterogeneous applications. The PnPagent module is a homogeneous controller that operates on an application to ensure that its activities are coordin ated with those of the others within the community, provides a homogeneous communication envelope for all heterogeneous applications. The combination of these three components is used to meet the desire for implementing the plug-and-play mechanism. In this distributed, open architecture, one should be able to simply plug in a new application and it should work.

  • Three-dimensional (3-D) integration is an emerging technology, which vertically stacks and interconnects multiple materials, technologies, and functional components such as processor, memory, sensors, logic, analog, and power ICs into one stacked chip to form highly integrated micro-nano systems. Since CMOS device scaling has stalled, 3D integration technology allows extending Moore's law to ever high density, higher functionality, higher performance, and more diversed materials and devices to be integrated with lower cost. The potential benefits of 3D integration can vary depending on approach; increased multifunctionality, increased performance, increased data bandwidth, reduced power, small form factor, reduced packaging volume, increased yield and reliability, flexible heterogeneous integration, and reduced overall costs. It is expected that the semiconductor industry's paradiam will be shift to a new industry-fusing technology era that will offer tremendous global opportunities for expanded use of 3D based technologies in highly integrated systems. Anticipated applications start with memory, handheld devices, and high-performance computers and extend to high-density multifunctional heterogeneous integration of IT-NT-BT systems. This paper attempts to introduce new 3D integration technologies of the chip self-assembling stacking and 3D heterogeneous opto-electronics integration for realizng the super-chip.

  • In this paper, we introduce MDA based Development Method for Embedded Software Component. This method applies MDA approach to solve problems about reusability of the heterogeneous embedded software system. With our proposed method, we produce 'Target Independent Meta Model'(TIM) which is transformed into 'Target Specific Model'(TSM) and generate 'Target Dependent Code' (TDC) via TSM. We would like to reuse a meta-model to develop heterogeneous embedded software systems. To achieve this mechanism, we extend xUML to solve unrepresented elements (such as real things about concurrency, and real time, etc) on dynamic modeling of the particular system. We introduce 'MDA based Embedded S/W Modeling Tool' with extended XUML. With this tool, we would like to do more easily modeling embedded or concurrent/real time s/w systems. It contains two examples of heterogeneous imbedded systems which illustrate the proposed approach.

  • Femto-cells are low power/cost, micro-base stations and are main components in heterogeneous networks. However, some of technical issues arise when femto-cells are initially installed. One approach to resolve the problems is to control the transmission (TX) power autonomously via SON(Self-Organized Network) scheme. By controlling the femto-cell TX power, the system throughput performance can be improved or the system overhead is highly reduced. Generally, the TX power for maximizing the system throughput and that for reduced system overhead may not be identical. Therefore, we propose a TX power control scheme by which we can improve the system throughput and reduce the system overhead, simultaneously. When we apply the proposed method, the simulation results show that the system overhead can be reduced by up to 41% compared to the performance of the method which maximizes throughput performance only, and the throughput performance can be improved by up to 63% compared to that of the method which only optimizes the coverage area.
