  • Let A be a bounded linear operator acting on a Hilbert space H. The B-Weyl spectrum of A is the set ${\sigma}_{B{\omega}}(A)$ of all ${\lambda}{\in}\mathbb{C}$ such that $A-{\lambda}I$ is not a B-Fredholm operator of index 0. Let E(A) be the set of all isolated eigenvalues of A. Recently in [6] Berkani showed that if A is a hyponormal operator, then A satisfies generalized Weyl's theorem ${\sigma}_{B{\omega}}(A)={\sigma}(A)$\E(A), and the B-Weyl spectrum ${\sigma}_{B{\omega}}(A)$ of A satisfies the spectral mapping theorem. In [51], H. Weyl proved that weyl's theorem holds for hermitian operators. Weyl's theorem has been extended from hermitian operators to hyponormal and Toeplitz operators [12], and to several classes of operators including semi-normal operators ([9], [10]). Recently W. Y. Lee [35] showed that Weyl's theorem holds for algebraically hyponormal operators. R. Curto and Y. M. Han [14] have extended Lee's results to algebraically paranormal operators. In [19] the authors showed that Weyl's theorem holds for algebraically p-hyponormal operators. As Berkani has shown in [5], if the generalized Weyl's theorem holds for A, then so does Weyl's theorem. In this paper all the above results are generalized by proving that generalizedWeyl's theorem holds for the case where A is an algebraically ($p,\;k$)-quasihyponormal or an algebarically paranormal operator which includes all the above mentioned operators.

  • Let $E_n$ be the real ordered space of all $n{\times}n$ Hermitian Matrices and let T be a positive linear operator from $E_2$ to $E_3$. We prove in this paper that T is extreme if and only if T is unitarily equivalent to a map of the form $S_z$ for some $z{\in}C^2$ where $S_z$ is defined by $S_z(xx^*)=ww^*$, $w_i=x_iz_i$ for i = 1, 2 and $w_3=0$.

  • In this paper, we present some upper bounds for unitarily invariant norms inequalities. Among other inequalities, we show some upper bounds for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. In particular, we prove $${\parallel}f(A)Xg(B){\pm}g(B)Xf(A){\parallel}_2{\leq}{\Large{\parallel}}{\frac{(I+{\mid}A{\mid})X(I+{\mid}B{\mid})+(I+{\mid}B{\mid})X(I+{\mid}A{\mid})}{^dA^dB}}{\Large{\parallel}}_2$$, where A, B, $X{\in}{\mathbb{M}}_n$ such that A, B are Hermitian with ${\sigma}(A){\cup}{\sigma}(B){\subset}{\mathbb{D}}$ and f, g are analytic on the complex unit disk ${\mathbb{D}}$, g(0) = f(0) = 1, Re(f) > 0 and Re(g) > 0.

  • The variational approach for the direct evaluation of the energy difference ${\Delta}$E is studied. The method is based on the differential equation corresponding to the integral Hellmann-Feynman formula. The ${\Delta}$E is given by the expectation value of the Hermitian operator which does not involve the 1/$r_{ij}$ term. Because of its variational nature of the method, the coupling problem of the differential equations which are encountered in perturbation treatment does not occur. The method is applied to the evaluation of the electric polarizabilities of the Helium isoelectronic series atoms. The result is in good agreement with the experiment. The method is compared with the recent works of Karplus et al.
