  • Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) formation plays an important role in the progression of diabetic complications. To develop effective herbal formulations with suppression of diabetic nephropathy, a common complication in diabetic patients, we evaluated inhibitory activities of KIOM-79, a new herbal prescription, on the formation of AGEs using in vitro and in vivo model systems. Effects of KIOM-79 on the expression of AGEs, RAGEs (receptor for Advanced glycation end products), type IV collagen and renal $TGF-{\beta}1$ mRNA was also examined in streptozotocon (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. STZ-induced diabetic rats were treated orally with KIOM-79 (250 and $500\;kg^{-1}$ once a day for 13 weeks). In vitro system KIOM-79 suppressed the formation of AGEs $(18.12\;{\mu}g/ml)$. In STZ-induced diabetic rats showing accumulation of AGE and RAGE, pathological examination revealed that KIOM-79 prevented AGE and RAGE deposition in the kidney. In STZ induced diabetic rats, the expansion of mesangial matrix and the glomerular tufts seemed to be larger than those in normal rats. Howεver, after administration with KIOM-79, mesangial metrix and glomerular volume were decreased, and overexpression of type IV collagen was also decreased. Overexpression of renal $TGF-{\beta}1$ mRNA was inhibited significantly. These results suggest that the KIOM-79 might be an effective herbal prescription to prevent or alleviate the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

SYS was first mentioned in the prescription of peaceful benevolent dispensary(太平惠民和劑局方), its essential application was harminizing liver depression and spleen deficiency(肝鬱脾虛) 3. SYS originated from Sayuk-san. Sayuk-san was appropriate for soothe the liver and regulate the spleen(疏肝理脾), while SYS was suitable for depressed liver and blood deficiency(肝鬱血虛) 4. Most medical literature insisted that application situation of SYS is blood deficiency(血虛), depressed liver(肝鬱), spleen deficiency(脾虛). And there is strong correlation between three factors. 5. • Objectives The purpose of this study is to report on the collecting status of the prospective clinical data, that is designed to find clinical factors for determining the constitutional prescription. Methods We collected the prospective clinical data of 1208 subjects in the 10 oriental hospitals and 2 oriental clinic, from September 2012 to July 2015. Subjects were diagnosed and prescribed by the Sasang Constitution specialist. We counted the usage frequency of each constitutional herbal formula. Besides we check the main chief complaints on each constitutional herbal formula. Results & Conclusions In TE type, Yeoldahanso-tang, Cheongsimnyeonja-tang were used in high frequency. In SE type, Palmulgunja-tang, Gwakhyangjunggi-san were used in high frequency. In SY type, Hyeongbangjihwang-tang, Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang were used in high frequency. The both of high frequency-prescriptions in TE types were for the Interiorheat disease, expecially liver-heat lung-dry symptomatology. The main chief complaint of high frequency-prescriptions was fatigue in every constitution. We hope that the process of constitutional prescription would be standardized through the subsequent researches.

The relationship and combination of prescription drugs in the clinical practice of internal injuries and consumptive disease were analyzed for various diseases of "Donguibogam" through network analysis. Methods: The prescriptions used in consumptive disease and internal injury were established by conducting a full survey on the papers extracted from Donguibogam. The R version 4.0.3 (2020-10-10) and the igraph and arules package were used to perform network analysis and association rule relationship mining analysis in the first and second prescription compositions. Results: The herb frequently used for internal injury was Glycyrrhizae Radix, while the herb combination frequently used was Citri Pericarpium-Glycyrrhizae Radix. For centrality, the main factor was generally Glycyrrhizae Radix. In the case of consumptive disease, the herb most frequently used was Angelicae Gigantis Radix, and the combination most frequently used was Rehmanniae Radix Preparata-Angelicae Gigantis Radix. In terms of centrality, it was Angelicae Gigantis Radix. As a result of the network analysis of herbal prescription frequency, each group was divided into three. Conclusion: The interrelationship between internal injury and consumptive disease prescription drugs may reveal the differences and similarities between internal injury and consumptive disease and may serve as a basis for the development of new drugs or materials that can enhance mutual effectiveness in the treatment of internal injury and consumptive diseases.

  • Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with cutaneous hyperreactivity to environmental triggers. The clinical phenotype that characterizes AD is the product of interactions between susceptible genes, the environmental factors, defective skin barrier function, and immunologic responses. This review summarizes recent progress in our understanding of the immunopathophysiology of AD and the implications for mouse models of AD in drug discovery from medicinal plants.
