  • Mo-Cu alloys have been widely used for heat sink materials, vacuum technology, automobile, and many other applications due to their excellent physical and electric properties. Especially, Mo-Cu composites with 5 ~ 20 wt.% copper are widely used for the heavy duty service contacts due to their excellent properties like low coefficient of thermal expansion, wear resistance, high temperature strength, and prominent electrical and thermal conductivity. In most of the applications, highly-dense Mo-Cu materials with homogeneous microstructure are required for better performance. In this study, Mo-Cu alloys were prepared by PBM (planetary ball milling) and SPS (spark plasma sintering). The effect of Cu with contents of 5~20 wt.% on the microstructure and thermal properties of Mo-Cu alloys was investigated.

  • Mo-Cu alloys have been widely used for heat sink materials, vacuum technology, automobile and many other applications due to their excellent physical and electronic properties. Especially, Mo-Cu composites with 5~20 wt% copper are widely used for the heavy duty service contacts due to their excellent properties like low coefficient of thermal expansion, wear resistance, high temperature strength and prominent electrical and thermal conductivity. In most of the applications, high dense Mo-Cu materials with homogeneous microstructure are required for high performance, which has led in turn to attempts to prepare ultra-fine and well-dispersed Mo-Cu powders in different ways, such as spray drying and reduction process, electroless plating technique, mechanical alloying process and gelatification-reduction process. However, most of these methods were accomplished at high temperature (typically degree), resulting in undesirable growth of large Cu phases; furthermore, these methods usually require complicated experimental facilities and procedure. In this study, Mo-Cu alloying were prepared by planetary ball milling (PBM) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) and the effect of Cu with contents of 5~20 wt% on the microstructure and properties of Mo-Cu alloy has been investigated.

GaN MOSFET을 이용한 고밀도, 고효율 48V 버스용 3-출력 Buck Converter 설계 (A High Efficiency, High Power-Density GaN-based Triple-Output 48V Buck Converter Design)

  • In this study, a 70 W buck converter using GaN metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) is developed. This converter exhibits over 97 % efficiency, high power density, and 48 V-to-12 V/1.2 V/1 V (triple output). Three gate drivers and six GaN MOSFETs are placed in a 1 ㎠ area to enhance power density and heat dissipation capacity. The theoretical switching and conduction losses of the GaN MOSFETs are calculated. Inductances, capacitances, and resistances for the output filters of the three buck converters are determined to achieve the desired current, voltage ripples, and efficiency. An equivalent circuit model for the thermal analysis of the proposed triple-output buck converter is presented. The junction temperatures of the GaN MOSFETs are estimated using the thermal model. Circuit operation and temperature analysis are evaluated using a circuit simulation tool and the finite element analysis results. An experimental test bed is built to evaluate the proposed design. The estimated switch and heat sink temperatures coincide well with the measured results. The designed buck converter has 130 W/in3 power density and 97.6 % efficiency.

Effect of Water Induction on the Performance and Exhaust Emissions in a Diesel Engine (II)

  • This study was to investigate the effects of water induction through the air intake system on the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in an IDI diesel engine. The fuel injection timing was also controlled to investigate a method for the simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx when water was injected into the combustion chamber. The formation of NOx was significantly suppressed by decreasing the gas peak temperature during the initial combustion process because the water played a role as a heat sink during evaporating in the combustion chamber, while the smoke was slightly increased with increased water amount. Also, NOx emission was significantly decreased with increase in water amount. A simultaneous reduction in smoke and NOx emissions was obtained when water was injected into the combustion chamber by retarding more 2$^{\circ}C$A of the fuel injection timing than without water injection.

열전소자를 이용한 고온용 로봇 그리퍼 냉각장치에 관한 연구 (Study of the robot gripper cooling device for a high temperature material using peltier element)

  • In the research, we developed a device for cooling the drive section of the gripper of a robot for handling the high temperature material. In this study, By using a Peltier element, the high-temperature material is not affected and driving cylinder is cooled to prevent damage due to high temperatures. Hot part of the Peltier element is towards the robot gripper. Cool part of the Peltier element is towards the driving cylinder. The heat sink portion is made to keep the cooling effect. As the performance result, cooling-test is taken, and their result is satisfy.

  • In order to reduce driving power consumption, we propose and fabricate a new structure of asymmetric SOI 1${\times}$2 thermo-optic switch that has a back side silicon trenched structure. Compared to conventional SOI thermo optic switches without heat sink structure, it shows an improvement of switching power reduction from about 4 watt to 1.8 watt without sacrificing cross talk of about 20 ㏈ at the light wavelength of 1.55 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Here we also described the main design consideration and fabrication procedure for the proposed device.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performance of supplemental cooling and heating system equipped with the 1 kW thermoelectric module. The system consist of 96 thermoelectric modules, heat sink with louver fin and water cooling jacket which is attached on the hot side of the thermoelectric module. The cooling and heating performance test of the thermoelectric system is conducted with various conditions, such as intake voltage, air inlet temperature, air flow volume, water inlet temperature and water flow rate at calorimeter chamber in consideration of environmental conditions in realistic vehicle drive. The experimental results of a thermoelectric system shows that the cooling capacity and COP is 1.03 kW, and 1.0, and heating capacity and COP is 1.53 kW, and 1.5 respectively.

고온용 압전 레벨 스위치 개발 (Development of Piezoelectric Level Switch for High Temperature)

  • This paper describes the development of a piezoelectric level switch, which aims to effectively monitor the level status in high ambient temperatures. In order to adjust the impedance near the resonant frequency and temperature characteristics, the effect of the case and backing layer materials on its performance was analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). The suggested prototype new level switch has three heat-sink plates attached to SUS bar of 230 mm long, and case of PEEK which contains PZT sensing part. To illustrate the validity of this level switch, 10 samples are prepared and investigated the sensing performance through the high and low temperature ambient.

  • 본 논문에서는 열전소자의 구조에 따른 COB LED의 방열성능을 비교 분석하였다. COB LED의 발열부분과 접합하는 열전소자는 구리박판 구조와 세라믹 구조의 열전소자를 사용하였다. COB LED와 열전소자의 접합부분은 접촉식 온도계를 통해 온도 분포를 측정하였고, 각각의 열전소자는 0.1A, 0.3A, 0.5A, 0.7A의 전류를 입력시켜서 온도 변화를 측정하였다. COB LED의 열 응집현상이 나타나는 접합부분의 온도는 0.7A를 인가하였을 때 구리박판 구조의 열전소자에서 $59^{\circ}C$로 측정되었고, 세라믹 구조의 열전소자는 $67^{\circ}C$로 나타났으며, 구리박판 열전소자가 세라믹 구조의 열전소자 보다 $9^{\circ}C$가 낮게 측정됨으로써 방열성능이 더 우수함을 보였다.

과대불판 사용 시 이동식부탄연소기 구조에 따른 열영향 연구 (A Study on Thermal Effects for Structure of Portable Butane Gas Stoves using Oversized Grill)

  • 본 연구는 과대불판 사용 사고 예방을 위한 안전기준 도입에 따라 이동식부탄연소기 구조에 따른 열영향을 분석하기 위해 수행하였다. 삼발이 높이가 다른 연소기와 용기 장착부 덮개 안쪽에 방열판을 설치한 연소기를 활용해 불판, 연소기의 용기 장착부 덮개 및 부탄용기의 온도를 측정하였다. 그리고 불판 및 화염의 열영향에 의한 온도 변화 경향을 분석하였다. 본 실험 범위에서 이동식부탄연소기 사용 중 안전장치가 작동하지 않는, 즉 안전하게 이동식부탄연소기를 사용할 수 있는 조건은 불판과 용기 장착부 덮개의 거리가 약 28 mm 이상이라고 파악되었다. 이에 비해 불판과 용기 장착부 덮개의 거리가 현저히 낮으면 불판의 열영향 뿐만 아니라 화염의 열영향이 직접적으로 부탄용기에 줄 수 있어 사고의 위험성이 크다고 판단된다. 또한 용기 장착부 덮개 안쪽에 방열판 설치 시 불판과 화염의 열영향 감소 효과가 있지만 부탄용기 과열에 따른 폭발 사고 위험성이 존재한다고 판단된다.
