  • The industrial sector is the largest energy consumer, accounting for 44% of the total energy consumption of Korea in 1981. Energy conservation in the industrial processes is one of the most important strategies to the energy conservation to the nation. This paper introduces principles of energy conservation which is the maximum thermodynamic efficiency in energy use. Two important factors considered are how much heat is available and how good is the heat available (the quality of energy).

  • This paper presents the log likelihood function for integrated models for ALT such as exponential-general Eyring, Weibull-temperature and specific heat, lognormal-temperature and specific heat. Additionally this paper estimates the system reliability and mean time to failure(MTTF) for series, parallel, k of n, and standby system using ALT linkage parameter. Lastly this study designs three variable reliability acceptance sampling(RAS) plans such as type I, II censored test, sequential test by the use of integrated models for ALT.

비모수 지역난방 수요예측모형 (A Nonparametric Prediction Model of District Heating Demand)

  • The heat demand prediction is an essential issue in management of district heating system. Without an accurate prediction through the lead-time period, it might be impossible to make a rational decision on many issues such as heat production scheduling and heat exchange among the plants which are very critical for the district heating company. The heat demand varies with the temperature as well as the time nonlinearly. And the parametric specification of the heat demand model would cause a misspecification bias in prediction. A nonparametric model for the short-term heat demand prediction has been developed as an alternative to avoiding the misspecification error and tested with the actual data. The prediction errors are reasonably small enough to use the model to predict a few hour ahead heat demand.

  • Rapid development of electronic technology requires small size, high density packaging and high power of electronic devices, which result in more heat generation by the electronic system. Present cooling technology may not be adequate for the thermal management in the current state-of-the-art electronic equipment. Forced convective heat transfer in a channel filled with pin-fin array is studied experimentally in this paper as an alternative cool-ing scheme for a high heat-dissipating equipment. Various configurations of the pin-fin array are selected in order to find out the effect of spacing and diameter of the pin-fin on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics. In the low porosity region, interfacial heat transfer and pressure drop seem to show different trend compared to the conventional heat transfer process.

  • As DDI or GDI engine discharges very low heat due to its high thermal efficiency, the heat source is not enough for heating the passenger compartment in cold climate condition. To remedy the heating problem, the conventional HFC-134a automotive air-conditioning system has been attempted to run as a heat pump mode. Futhermore, an auxiliary electric heater of new type was equipped to the heat pump air-conditioning loop as a new approach. Hence, a proto-type heat pump air conditioner has been made and tested to investigate the feasibility of the HFC-134a automobile air-conditioning system that could be worked as a heat pump. The experiment results showed that the sufficient heating capacity could be obtained by adding a heat pump with an new electric type auxiliary heater into the conventional heat core in low temperature condition.

The Paint Prepared Using 2D Materials: An Evaluation of Heat Dissipation and Anticorrosive Performance

  • Heat sinks are most widely used in thermal management systems; however, the heat dissipation efficiency is usually limited. Therefore, in order to increase heat dissipation efficiency of the heat sink, the heat-dissipating paint using 2D materials (hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and graphene) as thermally conductive additive was designed and evaluated in the present study. The heat dissipation performance of the paint was calculated from temperature difference between the paint-coated and -uncoated specimens mounted on the heat source. The highest heat dissipation performance was obtained when the ratio of h-BN to resin was 1/10 in the paint. In addition, further reduction in the temperature of the test specimen by 6.5 ℃ was achieved. The highest heat dissipation performance of the paint prepared using graphene was achieved at a 1/50 ratio of graphene to the resin, and a 6.5 ℃ reduction was attained. In addition, graphene exhibited enhanced corrosion resistance property of heat-dissipating paint by inhibiting the growth of the paint blisters.

  • A thermal management system of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell is taken charge of controlling the temperature of fuel cell stack by rejection of electrochemically reacted heat. Two major components of thermal management system are heat exchanger and pump which determines required amount of heat. Since the performance and durability of PEMFC system is sensitive to the operating temperature and temperature distribution inside the stack, it is necessary to control the thermal management system properly under guidance of operating strategy. The control study of the thermal management system is able to be boosted up with hardware in the loop simulation which directly connects the plant simulation with real hardware components. In this study, the plant simulation of fuel cell stack has been developed and the simulation model is connected with virtual data acquisition system. And HIL simulator has been developed to control the coolant supply system for the study of PEMFC thermal management system. The virtual data acquisition system and the HIL simulator are developed under LabVIEWTM Platform and the Simulation interface toolkit integrates the fuel cell plant simulator with the virtual DAQ display and HIL simulator.

금속 우라늄봉의 연속주조공정에 대한 열전달 및 응고해석 (Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer and Solidification in the Continuous Casting Process of Metallic Uranium Rod)

  • Continuous casting equipment was designed to cast the metallic uranium rods, and a thermal analysis was carried out to calculate the temperature and solidification profiles. Fluid flow and heat transfer analysis model including the effects of phase change was used to simulate the continuous casting process by finite volume method. In the design of continuous casting equipment, the casting speed, pouring temperature and cooling conditions should be considered as significant factors. In this study, the effects of casting speed, pouring temperature, and air gap between the uranium and mold were investigate. The results represented that the temperature and solidification profiles of continuous casting equipment varied with the casting speed, pouring temperature, and air gap.

A preliminary study on material effects of critical heat flux for downward-facing flow boiling

  • In this study, experiments of downward-facing flow boiling were conducted to investigate material effects on CHF. Experiments were conducted using aluminum, copper, and carbon steel. It was found that different materials had different CHFs. Aluminum has the biggest CHF while copper has the lowest CHF for each mass flux. After experiment, surface wettability increased and surface became rougher, which was probably due to the oxidation process during nucleate boiling. The CHF difference is likely to be related to the surface wettability, roughness and thermal effusivity, which influences the bubble behavior and in turn affects CHF. Further studies are needed to determine which factor is dominant.

고로슬래그를 이용한 폐기물 매립지 고화토차수층의 수화열 저감특성 (Characteristics of Reduction of Hydration Heat through Utilization of Blast Furnace Slag in the Cement-based Landfill Soil Liner System)

  • 본 연구에서는 해안연약지반의 현장토(준설점토)를 차수층에 이용하기 위해 첨가되는 고화재에 의한 수화열을 저감하기 위한 방안을 모색하고자 산업부산물로 년간 다량 배출되는 고로슬래그를 이용하였다. 실험결과, 고로슬래그를 첨가한 준설혼합토(준설점토 95% w+시멘트 5% w)의 경우 고화재에 의한 초기수화반응열을 저감하는 것으로 나타났는데 이는 불투수성인 aluminosilicate 피막이 고로슬래그의 표면을 코팅하였기 때문으로 판단된다. 따라서 고화재의 수화반응에 따른 수화열에 의해 발생될 수 있는 매립지 차수층의 미세균열을 산업부산물인 고로슬래그가 저감해 줄 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
