The physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activities of Lentinula edodes cultivated with liquid spawn were compared according to the harvest cycle (1-3 cycles). There was no significant difference in moisture content. The crude lipid and crude protein contents tended to decrease according to harvest cycle. The content of β-glucan was the highest in mushrooms after one cycle. The β-glucan content in cycles 2 and 3 was 68.5% and 62.3% that of the content after cycle 1, respectively. Mineral content in the pileus and stipe was similar. The mineral content was highest in the pileus after two cycles. Composition and contents of free amino acids tended to decrease according to the harvest cycle. Contents of essential amino acids were higher in mushroom after one cycle. Total phenol content was highest in the pileus (31.96 mg/100 g) and the stipe (21.10 mg/100 g) after one cycle and tended to decrease with subsequent cycles. The flavonoid content was 11.13 mg/100 g after one cycle and significantly decreased according to the harvest cycle. Antioxidant activities were also highest after one cycle and significantly decreased according to the harvest cycle. When compared to L. edodes cultured for one cycle, L. edodes cultivated with liquid spawn for three cycles was considered to have similar marketability in terms of quality characteristics.
This study was conducted to investigate the labor requirements and transportation cost of paddy for the different harvest and transportation systems for obtaining a basic reference to the improvement of present harvest-transportation systems. One hundred and eighty five farm households with sack type combine harvester and thirty farm households with bulk type combine harvester were surveyed for thirty counties from eight provinces except jeju and also eleven Rice Processing Complex were covered for this survey. This survey was carried from 8th. October 1997 to 5th. November 1997. For the labor requirements, bulk trailer system require 6.8th/ha, 10.3/ha for sack harvest-tractor trailer, and 8.8h/ha for bulk harvest-container bag. The machinery utilization cost for the different paddy harvest-transportation systems, combine sack harvest-tractor trailer system is 282 thousand won/ha, and most economical compared with other systems. Combine bulk harvest with tractor system was 416 thousands won/ha and combine bulk harvest with container bag system was 446 thousands won/ha. In order to propagate bulk harvest-transportation system, a proper bulk transportation means with considering road condition in the paddy field and paddy size should be developed, and considering cycle time it appeared that the proper capacity of bulk container was 3.5ton at the present.
Recently, plasma technology has been increasingly applied to agriculture and foods. Owing to the three important plasma characteristics which are activation, sterilization, and catalysis, the plasma technology can be properly applied to agriculture, in the other word, to the whole cycle of agriculture from farm to table: seed germination, plant growth, harvest and storage, washing, packaging, transport, in store, household, cooking, garbage, etc. Some representative case studies for plasma activation, sterilization, and catalysis show well that plasma technology can be successfully applied to the whole cycle of agriculture.
We developed a local-scale ecophysiological model, Sim-CYCLE Fine by modifying Sim-CYCLE which was developed for a global scale simulation. Sim-CYCLE fine is able to simulate not only carbon fluxes but also plant growth with various time-steps from an hour to a month. The model outputs of $CO_2$ flux and biomass/LAI were highly reliable; we validated the model results with measurements from the eddy covariance technique and the harvest method ($R^2$ values of around 0.9 for both). The results suggested that the phonology and the seasonal dynamics of the $C_3/C4$ plant communities affected significantly the carbon fluxes and the plant growth during the plant growing season.
Five varieties of mushrooms, including Sae-do, were examined using farm field tests to determine their morphological characteristics and quality by performing harvest flush. Considering the cultivation characteristics of the varieties studied, the parts related to mushroom generation and production showed almost similar characteristics. Overall, the mycelial forces were similar; however, in the evaluation of plantation tests performed by farmers, "saedo" was found to be the strongest and "saehan" was considered to be the weakest. Weights of fruiting bodies were related more for compost status and regimen of use than for breeding, and it was difficult to distinguish between the weights of fruiting bodies of the varieties studied. Regardless of the variety, pileus diameter, pileus thickness, and stem length of Dalseong-gun, Yongin-si, and Boryeong-si decreased as the harvest flush progressed. However, stem thickness tended to increase in the second and third flush compared to that in the first flush, regardless of the variety. However, the Gyeongju-si farms could not identify any trends attributable to varieties and harvest flushes. The pileus size and stem length of the fruiting bodies of varieties from Buyeo farms decreased with the progression of the harvest flush. However, pileus thickness and stem thickness did not show any specific tendency of growth among the varieties studied. The differences in the morphological characteristics of mushroom varieties in each harvest cycle are expected to be caused by differences in the supply of nutrients in the medium, the quality of the compost used, and the cultivation environment rather than the variety.
Elevation differences within a paddy field relate strongly to plant health, crop homogeneity, and pest control. For precision agriculture (PA), the elevation within a field should be precisely controlled. We analyzed variation in elevation within a rice paddy field over one crop cycle. The study took place in a rectangular plot (100 m x 30 m). Elevations within the a plots was measured by a laser-equipped surveying instrument, that could determine elevations to precisions of I mm. The test field was divided into grids with 30 squares; elevation was measured at the center of each 5 x 10-m grid square. This study measured elevation during nine observation periods from pre-plowing to post-harvest. Descriptive statistics showed the highest elevations after plowing due to soil disturbance. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant elevation differences before and after plowing and transplanting, although elevations were similar over the period of crop growth. Comparison of pre-plowing and post-harvest data showed differences in elevations, indicating that elevation changes occurred during plowing, rice transplanting, plant growth, and harvesting. In summary, the above statistical analysis indicated that elevation changes occurred due to plowing but not during the plant growth season or due to harvesting.
Post-Harvest processing engineering is a field that studies prevention of the quality change of agricultural products during sorting, packaging, storage, and distribution after harvested. In distribution steps, agricultural products could be damaged by physical force, it is the main reason of low quality and they lost value of commodities. This study was performed to find the vibration characteristics of the peach, and to find the extent of the damage on the peach by fatigue stress. The vibration data was obtained on expressway and the vibration characteristics of peach was used to find the damage on the peach. To analyze the vibration characteristics of peach, the resonance frequency and vibration transmissibility were measured. The resonance frequency of the peach was 167.98 Hz and the transmissibility was 4.06 at resonance point. It was 150 ~ 250 Hz that the transmissibility was more than 1. And the transmissibility in simulated test was measured. When the trasmissibility was more than 1, the range was 15 ~ 65 Hz, and when it was less than 1, the range was 65 ~ 175 Hz. When the transmissibility was about 1, the range was 5 ~ 15 Hz. The damage and the vibration cycle numbers of peaches were compared with input frequency and acceleration. More damage and less cycle number happened in 30 Hz than in 62.5 Hz. The reason was that the transmissibility of 30 Hz was higher and the vibration displacement in lower frequency was more. The more acceleration and cycle number increased, the more the bruising volume of peaches increased. The bruising volume ratio for vibration fatigue was measured according to input acceleration and cycle number. Using measured data, regression models for bruising volume ratio(BVR) was developed as a function of the acceleration(A) and cycle number(CN) as follows. BVR = a * $A^b*$$(CN)^c$

Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii has been used a culinary material and traditional medicine for a long time in worldwide and recently the researches to find biological effects have been increased such as dopamine activation, preventive effect against phytopathogens, inhibitive effect against erythrocyte coagulation, anti-oxidative effect, anti-tumorigenic effect, etc. However it is hard to cultivate Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii it is impossible to be mass-produced and in order to solve the problem in this study we found the appropriate cultivation period and the harvest point for it. For life cycle (from primordium formation to harvest) the morphology, weight, and quantity of polysaccharide of Mycoleptodonoides aitchisonii were measured using with 5 bodies per a day and it could be divided for 4 stages; primordium formation, growth, needle maturation, and aging. And then from the results the Zeide nonlinear growth curve could be gotten. At 13th day after cultivation there is the relation between the change of media weight and body weight and at 14th day after cultivation the rate of polysaccharide in the body was 11 %. However in the case of O2 insufficient supply the malformation of them was observed.
During a 35-day growth cycle, N, P, and K uptake was determined by measuring changes in their contents in culture solutions. At harvest, plants were separated into the roots, base organs and shoot, and dried for tissue analysis for N, P, and K. The uptake rates of N, P, and K followed cyclical patterns that was related to shoot development and harvest, but were independent of the transpiration rate. Uptake of N declined from 5.6 mmol $plant^{-1}$$day^{-1}$ just prior to the cycle initiation to 4.0 mmol $plant^{-1}$$day^{-1}$ at day 15. Uptake rate steadily increased as flower stems reached maturity up to 10.3 mmol $plant^{-1}$$day^{-1}$ day 35. Uptakes rates of P and K followed similar patterns of N uptake. Tissue concentrations of N and P steadily decreased since day 15. Content of K was the lowest at day 20 and steadily increased thereafter. In the root tissue, N and K contents were the lowest at day 15, increased to day 30, and then decreased at day 35. Tissue P content was just a reverse of those of N and K.
Effects of substrate bed interior environments on mushroom qualities were investigated in oyster mushroom cultivation facilities in which either Reversible Air-Circulation Fans (RACF) blowing air in two directions (upwards and downwards) or customary Convection Fans (CF) with air blowing only upwards were operated throughout the cultivation period. Two days before harvest, the deviation ranges of the bed interior temperature and relative humidity in the facility using RACF were in the ranges of 1.0-1.3℃ and 7.8-9.0% in the first growing cycle, and within 0.7-1.1℃ and 10.0-11.4% in the second cycle. In the facility using CF, the ranges of variation in the indoor environment parameters (5.8-6.4℃ and 21.3-23.1% in the first growing cycle, and 3.4-5.7℃ and 14.6-18.3% in the second growing cycle) were much enlarged compared to those associated with RACF. These results strongly indicate that RACF significantly enhances air uniformity. Some mushroom qualities differed between growing cycles. For instance RACF in the first cycle gave somewhat better qualities than CF, but some qualities, like pileus diameter and stipe length, were slightly lower than those described for CF in the second cycle when the cultivation substrate weakened. The observation that some qualities worsened under RACF conditions, despite better air uniformity during the growing cycle, revealed the possibility that downward wind may exert a non-negligible negative effect on mushroom growth. Therefore in the future, making wind measurements on the interior and exterior of substrate beds is necessary to obtain insights into their influences on mushroom qualities. The RACF operation manual needs to be edited to convey this necessity.
