  • An increase of pulsed power demand and load variation produce bad effect to power system. This causes power factor decrease. This paper proposes the excitation of the secondary side of wound rotor induction machine as one of harmonic compensation systems. In this paper, a harmonic compensation scheme based on stator flux-oriented vector control is proposed. By using the flux-oriented vector control, a voltage source PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) control scheme can be applied with fast dynamic response time. The designed control scheme is verified through simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a speed sensorless control of the saturated induction motor using the zero sequence third harmonic voltages and a compensation method of the stator resistance variations. The air-gap flux of the saturated induction motor contains the space harmonic components rorating synchronous frequency. As a function of the air-gap flux saturation, the dominant third harmonic voltage is used to compensate the non-linear variations of the mutual inductance depending on the saturation level of the motor. and also the stator resistance variations can be measured with the phase angle between the voltage vector and the zero sequencial voltages. The validity of the proposed compensation scheme in the speed sensorless control using rotor flux observer is verified by simulations.

  • This paper deals with a novel method in order to analyze the harmonic characteristics in the multi-level inverter. Generally, the magnitude of harmonic components is different according to the carrier PWM techniques, modulation Index(Mi), and the level of multi-level inverter The previous papers analyzed the harmonic characteristics from the viewpoint of the space vector. Hence, the calculation of the harmonic vector becomes difficult and complex in 4-level or more than S-level. However, the proposed method of this paper reduced an amount of calculation and simplified the process of calculation by using the relationship between reference voltage and output phase voltage to load neutral. This paper analyzed the harmonic and it is applied to the multi-carrier PWM techniques in 5- level and other-level of cascaded inverter system.

  • In this paper, we present a variable dimension vector quantization for spectral magnitudes. Espectially, spectral magnitudes of the Harmonic coder, need variable dimension quantizer because those are not fixed dimension. So, this paper present efficient quantization methods. These methods use variable Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT) for spectral magnitude parameters and NSTVQ which is combined odd/even, split and multi-stage structure, proposed quantization methods use Spectral Distortion(SD) for performance measure. Consequently, Multi-Stage Nonsquare Transform Vector Quantization(MSNSTVQ) is the best in performance measure.

  • In this paper, a new type predistorter using a low frequency intermodulation signals terms of harmonic generator is proposed. A vector modulator, in which fundamental signal is modulated with low frequency intermodulation signals derived from harmonic generator, generates predistorted third and fifth IM components. Using predistorted signals, intermodulation distortion signals of power amplifier suppressed. The suggested predistorter has been manufactured to operate in Korean PCS base-station transmitting band (1840~1870MHz). The test results show that the third IMD signal level is reduced more than 20dB and the fifth IMD signal is reduced about 10dB for CW two-tone signals. The predistorter improves the Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR) more than 10dB for CDMA (IS-95) signals.

  • This paper describes a relationship of a space vector PWM and a sinusoidal PWM and presents that the space vector PWM can produce linearly the output voltage to the unity MI(modulation index). At first, reference angles and holding angles are derived from expanding a Fourier series of the reference voltage waveform and then the angles are used for the inverter switching to linearize transfer characteristics of the inverter. In addition, the harmonic components of the output voltage are analyzed and on-line control is shown to be feasible by approximating in piecewise-linearization the reference and holding angles versus the MI. In V/f control of the induction motor, it is verified by the experiment that the motor current is changed smoothly for the variation of the inverter input voltage and the change of the reference voltage.

  • This paper deals with the parallel operation of space vector PWM for large capacity inverter system. To enlarge the capacity of inverter system and to reduce the current ripples on inverter output side, two or more inverters are operated in parallel. In this paper, a new parallel operation strategy which minimizes the harmonic distortion of the output stage is described. The proposed method is developed on the basis of the space-vector PWM in order to increase the linearly controllable voltage range. With the help of the proposed voltage synthesis method, the total harmonic distortion of the output stage can be greatly reduced in compared with that of conventional method with sinusoidal PWM or that of the single inverter operation case. The experimental results with reduced scale test show the feasibility of the proposed voltage synthesis method.

  • This paper deals with the torque ripple reduction of permanent magnet synchronous motor using harmonic current injection. Torque ripple of electric motor reduces system stability and performances, therefore efforts to reduce torque ripple are exerted in the design process. Torque ripple can be reduced by appropriate pole/slot combination, skew of rotor or stator, design of magnetic circuit, etc. In addition, torque ripple can be also reduced by input voltage and current, and many researches have been conducted to reduce torque ripple for six-step drive. Torque ripple reduction for current vector controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor also have been conducted and verified by investigating back emf wave form. Torque ripple reduction in this paper started from getting torque profile according to input current and electrical angle calculated by FEA, then instantaneous currents at each electrical angles for constant torque are calculated and applied to experiments. Therefore, 0% of torque ripple can be obtained theoretically with harmonic current injection. In order to maximize the effect of torque ripple reduction, a BLDC motor having high harmonic component of back emf is chosen. With sinusoidal current drive, over 100% of torque ripple is obtained initially, then 0.5 % of torque ripple is obtained by FEA using harmonic current injection. The effect is verified by experiment and the presented method can be effectively applicable to Electric Power Steering(EPS).

  • This paper deals with a new wave shaping technique for cost effective harmonic mitigation in ac-dc converter feeding Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives(VCIMD's) for improving power quality at the point of common coupling(PCC). The proposed harmonic mitigator consists of a polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse ac-dc converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned for $11^{th}$ harmonic frequency. This ac-dc converter eliminates the most dominant $5^{th},\;7^{th},\;and\;11^{th}$ harmonics and imposes the reduction of other higher order harmonics from the ac main current, thereby improving the power quality at ac mains. The design of autotransformer is carried out for the proposed ac-dc converter to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse ac-dc converter is used. The effect of load variation on VCIMD is also studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ac-dc converter in a wide operating range of the drive. Experimental results obtained on the developed laboratory prototype of the proposed harmonic mitigator are used to validate the model and design of the ac-dc converter.
