  • This paper presents a new single-phase asymmetrical cascaded multilevel DC-link inverter. The proposed inverter comprises two stages. The main stage of the inverter consists of multiple similar cells, each of which is a half-bridge inverter consisting of two switches and a single DC source. All cells are connected in a cascaded manner with a fixed neutral point. The DC source values are not made equal to increase the performance of the inverter. The second circuit is a folded cascaded H-bridge circuit operating at a line frequency. One of the main advantages of this proposed topology is that it is a modular type and can thus be extended to high stages without changing the configuration of the main stage circuit. Two control schemes, namely, low switching with selective harmonic elimination and sinusoidal pulse width modulation, are employed to validate the proposed topology. The detailed approach of each control scheme and switching pulses are discussed in detail. A 150W prototype of the proposed system is implemented in the laboratory to verify the validity of the proposed topology.

  • Nowadays, the inverter for CCFL(Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) driver is needed as form of compact size, low loss and high efficiency. This paper deals with comparison of characteristics of the electromagnetic push-pull type inverter and the piezoelectric half-bridge inverter for a CCFL driver. From the experimental results, the piezoelectric inverter is proven as more efficient than conventional electromagnetic inverter.

  • This paper presents an effective control scheme incorporated in the voltage-fed half-bridge series resonant inverter for induction heating applications, which is based upon a load-adaptive tuned frequency tracking control strategy using PLL(Phase Locked Loop) and its peripheral control circuit. The proposed control strategy ensures a stable operation characteristics of overall inverter system and ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching0 operation in spite of sensitive load parameters variation as well as power regulation, specially in the non-magnetic heating loads. The simulation results and the performance characteristics in the steady-state are shown as compared with the experimental results for a prototype induction cooking system rated at 1.2kW.

  • The LCD TV has many variable functions for consumer. Low temperature driving below minus 20 degree is also one of key functions. Since LCD is not self-luminance device, it is needed backlight system. Recently EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) widely substitutes for CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). It is more cheaper, higher efficiency, and easy to drive parallel connection compared to CCFL. In this paper, several conditions for low temperature driving of EEFL are investigated and a new boost-half bridge inverter for low temperature driving is proposed. Mode analysis is described and experimental results is represented to verify validity of the proposed inverter.

  • This paper describes a power supply of a CW magnetron for driving a electrodeless plasma lamp. The proposed power supply consists of a power factor controller, a series resonant ZVS half bridge inverter, a high voltage leakage transformer, and two IGBT drives. From the simulation results, it was confirmed that the proposed circuits can control the input power of the magnetron up to 33.3[%] linearly by adjust driving frequency of the inverter.

  • This paper describes an development of digital power supply for ship's emergency lighting system(SELS). Proposed system is composed of emergency power supply system(EPSS), half bridge(HB) inverter, fluorescent lamp(FL) starting circuit and microprocessor control system. Experimental works using proposed system confirm that speedy and stable power to be supplied when main power source cut-off, compared with conventional analog type, and control input power up to 35.0[%] by adjusting pulse frequency of the HB inverter.

  • This paper describes a low-cost single-phase active power filter, which consists of a half-bridge PWM inverter with a simple control circuit. In order to verify the performance of proposed active power filter, many computer simulations with EMTP codes and experimental works with a hardware prototype were done. Both results confirm that the proposed active power filter shows excellent performance to eliminate the harmonics generated in the single-phase non-linear load. The active power filter has advantage of low implementation cost and compact size, using a half-bridge inverter and a simple control circuit with only one current sensor. So, it can be fabricated as a plug-in type. This paper shows the necessity and a good possibility to apply such advantage to the electric railway system.

  • The conventional Three-Stage electronic ballast is stable, but Two-Stage electronic ballast has been researching because of efficiency. Three-Stage electronic ballast is consisted of PFC circuit, buck converter, and inverter circuit, but Two-stage is consisted of PFC circuit, Buck-Inverter full bridge circuit. The Buck-Inverter full bridge inverter consists of two half bridge inverters for low frequency switching, and high frequency switching. In the case of street lamp it is far from a lamp to a ballast, the conventional pulsed high voltage ignitor can not turn on the HID lamps because of reduction of ignition voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to turn on the HID lamps. Therefore, in the Two-Stage electronic ballast which has the resonant tank for ignition, the transient resonant current because of low frequency changing is analyzed, the novel algorithm is proposed to resuce the transient current.
