  • This paper is concerned with the vibration control of multi-layer structure for ultra-tall buildings and main tower of large bridge etc. We have modeled the multi-layer structure with the distributed mass system as the lumped mass system of two-degree-of-freedom structure and made experimental equipment. The $H_\infty$control theory was applied to the design of the control system. The designed control system was simulated by computer. As a result, the designed $H_\infty$controller showed the good vibration control performance to impulse response and frequency response.

  • It is a standard problem that designs a controller to minimize the $H_{\infty}$-norm of a given plant. By reducing a standard problem to a model-matching problem, we can obtain all the parameters which consist of a controller. After presenting a practical model and applying it to a tracking model, we design an $H_{\infty}$ controller and an LQ controller to concrete that $H_{\infty}$ control theory is far more robust than LQ control theory. And we show the advantage of an $H_{\infty}$ controller by obtaining a desired Bode diagram and comparing it with that of an LQ controller.

  • This paper presents a systematic design procedure of $H_{\infty}$ controller of TCSC for damping low frequency inter-area oscillations in large power systems. Sensitivities of the inter-area mode for changes in line susceptance are computed using the eigen-sensitivity theory of augmented system matrix and TCSC locations are selected using the line sensitivities. The reduced model required for designing a manageable-size $H_{\infty}$ controller is obtained using the reduced frequency domain system identification method and the various weighting functions are tuned systematically to provide a robust performance. The proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller proved to be very effective for damping the inter-area mode of the large KEPCO power system.

  • This paper presents the vibration control for the two degree-of-freedom which is a reduced model of multi-layer structure. This reduced model is designed for the first and second order resonance in the low frequency domain where the disturbance such as the earth quake has the large energy. And a designed controller using the LQ type $H_{\infty}$ control theory shows the good performance for the impulse disturbance through the experimental results and the simulation results respectively.

  • This paper presents a convex optimization method for observer-based mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control design of linear systems with time-varying state, input and output delays. Delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of a desired observer-based control are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An observer-based controller which guarantees asymptotic stability and a mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ performance for the closed-loop system of the linear system with time-varying delays is then developed. A Lyapunov-Krasovskii method underlies the observer-based mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control design. A numerical example with simulation results illustrates the effectiveness of the methodology.

  • This study investigates the use of mixed $H_2/H_{$\infty}$ and $\mu$-synthesis to construct a robust controller for the benchmark problem. The model treated in the problem is a coupled three-inertial system that reflects the dynamics of mechanical vibrations. This kind of problem requires to be satisfied the robust performance (both in the time and frequency-domain specifications). We, first, adopt the mixed $H_2/H_{$\infty}$ theory to design a feedback controller K(s). Next, $\mu$-synthesis method is applied to the overall system to make use of structured parametric uncertainty. This process permits higher levels of controller authority and reduces the conservativeness of the controller. Finally, the feedforward controller is also used to improve the transient response of the output. We confirm that all design specifications except a complementary sensitivity condition can be achieved.

  • In this paper, $H_2$, $H_{\infty}$, and mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ FIR filters are newly proposed for discrete-time state space signal models. The proposed filters require linearity, unbiased property, FIR structure, and independence of the initial state information in addition to the performance criteria in both $H_2$ and $H_{\infty}$ sense. It is shown that $H_2$, $H_{\infty}$, and mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ FIR filter design problems can be converted into convex programming problems via linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with a linear equality constraint. Simulation studies illustrat that the proposed FIR filter is more robust against uncertainties and has faster convergence than the conventional IIR filters. the conventional IIR filters.

  • A synthesis of feedback control-law with combined H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ perfoemance criteria is proposed for discrete-time systems, under the assumption that the state is available for feedback. An auxiliary minimization problem is defined to enforce the H$_{\infty}$ disturbance attenuation constrain while minimizing the H$_{2}$ performance bound. The design equation is presented in terms of a modified Riccati equation which leads to the standard LQ solution when the H$_{\infty}$ constraint is completely relaxed. The results of the paper clarity the correspondences between H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ results in discrete-time systems and their continuous-time counter-parts.rts.

  • In this paper, an $H_{\infty}$ robust controller has been designed for a large-scale system consisted of subsystems of mutually coupled plants. The physical plant, a two-dimensional horizontal movement robot system, has two subsystem plants mutually coupled by links. The designed $H_{\infty}$controller has been designed to get not only the robust stability for exogenous inputs to each plant but also the good tracking performance for the reference input to each plant. The $H_{\infty}$controller has shown the superior tracking performance and robust stability compared with the proportional-plus-derivative controller through computer simulations and physical experiments.

  • This paper provides a robust and non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller design algorithm for time-delayed systems with randomly occurring polytopic uncertainties and disturbances. First, we design time-delayed system considering randomly occurring uncertainties and disturbances. Next, The sufficient condition for the existence of robust and non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller is presented by LMI(linear matrix inequality) using Lyapunov stability analysis and $H_{\infty}$ performance measure. Since the obtained condition can be expressed as a PLMI(parameterized linear matrix inequality) by changes of variables and Schur complement, all solutions including controller gain, degrees of controller satisfying non-fragility, $H_{\infty}$ norm bound ${\gamma}$ can be calculated simultaneously. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed robust and non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller compared with the deterministic uncertainty model even though there exists randomly occurring uncertainties, disturbances and time delays.
