Recently, the flood frequency and magnitude have increased due to heavy rainfall. Considering the present condition, a flood risk map has been published in many countries to raise awareness about flood damage to people. A flood inundation analysis model, which is used to publish the flood risk map, can be classified as river and inland inundation models according to the inundation cause. Although a variety of flood inundation analysis models are utilized both domestically and overseas, their usability is limited by the expensive price, except for the HEC-RAS model developed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). In the situation, the USACE has developed a 2-D HEC-RAS model that can be linked to the existing 1-D model. This model has been released as a beta version under the name, HEC-RAS 5.0. In this study, the HEC-RAS 5.0 model's features, usability, applicability, and accuracy were evaluated by comparing the performances on Gokgyo-cheon with the FLUMEN model, which is used for domestic flood risk mapping. The results of this study will contribute to river inundation analysis in many different ways after the HEC-RAS 5.0 model is stabilized.
HEC-RAS model is used for estimation of rating-curve of Musung in Wi stream. Discharge is computed from stage estimated by HEC-RAS model, is compared with the discharge of water surface slope method. The relative deviation of observed and computed discharge is 5.37%, and shows as a good results. A rating-curve by HEC-RAS model shows better results than by water surface slope method.
The study applies a hydrologic simulation model, HEC-1 developed by Hydrologic Engineering Center to Daecheong dam watershed for modeling hourly inflows of Daecheong dam. Although the HEC-1 model provides an automatic optimization technique for some of the parameters, the built-in optimization model is not sufficient in estimating reliable parameters. In particular, the optimization model often fails to estimate the parameters when a large number of parameters exist. In this regard, a main objective of this study is to develop Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation based HEC-1 model (BHEC-1). The Clark IUH method for transformation of precipitation excess to runoff and the soil conservation service runoff curve method for abstractions were used in Bayesian Monte Carlo simulation. Simulations of runoff at the Daecheong station in the HEC-1 model under Bayesian optimization scheme allow the posterior probability distributions of the hydrograph thus providing uncertainties in rainfall-runoff process. The proposed model showed a powerful performance in terms of estimating model parameters and deriving full uncertainties so that the model can be applied to various hydrologic problems such as frequency curve derivation, dam risk analysis and climate change study.
Total scour depth at a bridge is comprised of three components: long-term changes, contraction scour and local scour. Therefore, the analysis of long-term bed elevation changes is very important in the estimation of total scour depth at bridge sites. In this research, long-term bed elevation changes at the Namhan River Bridge are analysed using CHARIMA and HEC-6 models. The results show that, for 5-year steady normal stream flow, the bed elevation is aggreded by 45cm for CHARIMA model but degraded by 5cm for HEC-6 model. For 5-year unsteady flow, the bed elevation is changed greatly and it has a great influence on the estimation of total scour depth. Therefore, to make a proper estimation of total scour depth, not only contraction scour and local scour, but also long-term bed elevation changes should be estimated precisely.

The objective of this study is to propose a methodology of the flood runoff analysis in steep mountainous basins and the analysis basin is the Jasa valley basin in Chungju city Analyzing the spatial pattern of the rainfall in 1994. 6 30~7.1, the seasonal rainy front was tied up in the whole central district, and the rainfall center was moving from the northern Chungbuk province to the northern Kyongbuk province and caused heavy storm. Analyzing the temporal pattern with the Huff method, the 52.5% of the rainfall was concentrated on the 3rd quartile. Rainfall frequency analysis is accomplished by five distribution types; 2-parameter Lognomal, 3-parameter Lognomal, Pearson Type III, Log-Pearson Type III and Extremal Type I distribution Rainfall-runoff analysis in Jasa valley basin was made using HEC-HMS model. Jasa valley basin was divided into 3 sub-basins and the analysis point was 3 points{A, B and C point) With the rainfall data measured by the 10 minutes, the flood runoff also was calculated by as many minutes. SCS CN model, Clark UH model and Muskingum routing model in HEC-HMS model were used to simulate the runoff volume using selected rainfall event.

Accurate quantitative assessment of flood control effect of side-weir detention basin as a flood countermeasure was highly required, in which one-dimensional HEC-RAS model has been widely utilized in practice. When the submerged overflow occurred particularly driven by limited storage capacity of a given detention basin, HEC-RAS model could not be sufficiently applicable by guaranteeing acceptable accuracy without reliable benchmark dataset. From this perspective, a dedicated unsteady experiment was planned and carried out to physically realize such submerged overflow for accommodating better accuracy. Subsequently, the experimental results were applied to validate and calibrate HEC-RAS unsteady modeling to provide flood control effect of the detention basin for various inflow scenarios. After following this procedure, the modelled results indicated that there appeared within -5% of difference in stage height and maximum 2.4% accuracy to assess the flood control effect, thereby ensuring the calibrated HEC-RAS unsteady model to be accurate with practically acceptable error range.
In this study, the HEC-GeoRAS model was used to estimate the changes of flood inundation depth and area of the Hyeoam-cheon basin after the channel migration and river improvement. The target area was extremely damaged due to the heavy rainfall on 25th August, 2014 after the costruction. According to the results of the analysis, the HEC-GeoRAS model can be used to accurately estimate the changes of flood innundation depth and area in agrecultural lands and lowlands of which the topographic changes and elevation differences are small. The inundation depths were increased 0.99 m in heavy rainfall and 0.39 m in 100 year frequency flood. The inundation areas in 100 year frequency flood were reduced in inundation depths under 1.5 m while they were increased in depths above 4.5 m. It was concluded that the loss of natural resevoir capacity of agricultural lands and lowlands due to the channel migration and river improvement caused the damage of flood in 2014 and the decrease of actual effective widths of the channel added the damage.
The purpose of this study is to compare the three areas that each estimated by using three different river topographic maps. For construction of river topographic maps, the data used in this study are ASTER, SRTM and a 1:5,000 scale digital map data sets in 14 streams of the Cheongdo-gun and Uiseong-gun. HEC-GeoRAS, RAS Mapper, and RiverCAD model are applied for the flooding area analysis using observed data and design rainfalls. The result of analysis is to compare observed flooding area based on the flood plain maps with estimated inundation area by hydraulic models and constructed river topographic maps. The results of this study are as follows; Flooding area by HEC-GeoRAS model is similar to the inundation area of flood plain map and appears in order of RAS Mapper, and RiverCAD model in all watersheds. Flood inundation area by SRTM DEM is similar to the result of 1:5,000 scale digital map in all watersheds and all analysis models. The SRTM DEM shows the most similarity to the digital map than ASTER DEM in all of the watershed scale and analysis models. HEC-GeoRAS and RiverCAD model are efficient models for flood inundation analysis in small watershed and HEC-GeoRAS and Ras Mapper model are efficient in medium to large watershed.
This study is the analysis of hydraulic characteristic for stream diversion reach by numerical model test. Through it we can provide the basis data in flood, and in grasping stream flow characteristics. Analysis of hydraulic characteristics in Seoknam stream were implemented by using computer model HEC-RAS(one-dimensional model) and RMA2(two-dimensional finite element model). As a result we became to known that RMA2 to simulate left, main channel, right in stream is more effective method in analysing flow in channel bends, steep slope, complex bed form effect stream flow characteristics, than HEC-RAS.
Recently, the frequency of typhoons have increased due to the effects of climate change. As a result, in mountain streams, it has caused streamflow increase upstream and frequent water surface elevation downstream. This study analyzed the effects of the heavy rainfalls caused by Typhoon Sanba, which had a direct impact on Korea between September 17 and 18, on the water level variations downstream in mountainous streams. In addition, the drainage basin of Samcheok Oship stream was chosen as the object of this study. This study analyzed the flood level by applying HEC-RAS model. The observed water level measured in 2012 and the water level simulated by HEC-RAS model showed similar results. In addition, the simulation results showed the maximum flood level was 5.32m the mean flow velocity was 2.33m/sec and the maximum channel water depth was 7.51m. The analysis showed that the heavy rainfalls caused by Typhoon Sanba had an impact on the water surface elevation in Oship stream. The final results from this study will give a reasonable and important data to perform the Design of Hydraulic Structure.
