  • The study on pH control at the themophilic solubilization (pretreatment process) was investigated in order to improve the methane gas production of two phase anaerobic digestion of food waste. From a batch experiment, it was observed that the solubilization efficiency was increased from 26.2% to 47.1% and 55.6% by the pH increament from $4.20{\pm}0.40$ (without pH control) to $7.00{\pm}0.50$, and $12.00{\pm}0.50$, respectively. However there was immaterial increase (8.5%) in solubilization efficiency when the pH was increased from $7.00{\pm}0.50$ to $12.00{\pm}0.50$. The two phase anaerobic digestion system was operated for laboratory scale experiment under the solubilization condition of pH $4.20{\pm}0.40$ (Run1) and $7.00{\pm}0.50$ (Run2). Higher soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) and total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) concentration were observed in Run2 throughout the system resulted by the solubilization effect at the pH $7.00{\pm}0.50$. The TVFA concentration in acidogenic reactor was 18.4 g/L which was 1.8 times higher than the result of Run1. Consequently the methane gas production was enhanced to 0.333 L/g VS in the methanogenic reactor, which is 18% higher than the result (0.282 L/g VS) of Run1.

  • Given operators X and Y acting on a Hilbert space ${\mathcal{H}}$, an interpolating operator is a bounded operator A such that AX = Y. An interpolating operator for n-operators satisfies the equation $AX_i=Y_i$, for $i=1,2,{\cdots},n$. In this article, we obtained the following : Let ${\mathcal{H}}$ be a Hilbert space and let ${\mathcal{L}}$ be a commutative subspace lattice on ${\mathcal{H}}$. Let X and Y be operators acting on ${\mathcal{H}}$. Then the following statements are equivalent. (1) There exists an operator A in $Alg{\mathcal{L}}$ such that AX = Y, A is positive and every E in ${\mathcal{L}}$ reduces A. (2) sup ${\frac{{\parallel}{\sum}^n_{i=1}\;E_iY\;f_i{\parallel}}{{\parallel}{\sum}^n_{i=1}\;E_iX\;f_i{\parallel}}}:n{\in}{\mathbb{N}},\;E_i{\in}{\mathcal{L}}$ and $f_i{\in}{\mathcal{H}}<{\infty}$ and <${\sum}^n_{i=1}\;E_iY\;f_i$, ${\sum}^n_{i=1}\;E_iX\;f_i>\;{\geq}0$, $n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}$, $E_i{\in}{\mathcal{L}}$ and $f_i{\in}H$.

  • The present study was performed to investigate the effects of two groups of sires with 'medium' and 'high' weight gain potentials (M-sires and H-sires, respectively) on growth of their progenies on varying planes of nutrition during the growing-finishing period. The ADG of the M-sires' progeny was greater (P < 0.05) than that of the H-sires' progeny (0.51 vs. 0.47 kg) during a 26- to 29-d early grower phase beginning from 55 d of age, but the opposite was true (0.66 vs. 0.72 kg) during the latter grower phase. Overall grower-phase ADG was greatest on the high plane of nutrition (H plane) followed by the medium (M) and low (L) planes (0.65, 0.61, and 0.51 kg, respectively; P < 0.05) in the M-sires' progeny, whereas in the H-sires' progeny, ADG was greater on the H and M planes vs. L plane (0.63, 0.62, and 0.54 kg, respectively). The ADG of pigs on the M or H plane during the grower phase and switched to the H plane thereafter (M-to-H or H-to-H planes) was greater than that of pigs on the L-to-L planes (0.99 vs. 0.78 kg) during the early finisher phase in the M-sires' progeny (P < 0.01). However, in the H-sires' progeny, ADG of pigs on the L-to-L planes did not differ from that of pigs on the M-to-M or H-to-M planes (0.94 vs. 0.96 kg). Results suggest that the H-to-H or H-to-M planes and M-to-M or M-to-L planes are optimal for maximal growth of the M- and H-sires' progenies, respectively.

  • Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of gliclazide were studied after an oral administration of gliclazide tablets in healthy volunteers. After an overnight fasting, gliclazide tablet was orally administered to 11 volunteers; Additional 10 volunteers were used as a control group (i.e., no gliclazide administration). Blood samples were collected, and the concentration determined for gliclazide and glucose up to 24 after the administration. Standard pharmacokinetic analysis was carried out for gliclazide. Pharmacodynamic activity of the drug was expressed by increase of glucose concentration ($\Delta$PG), by area under the increase of glucose concentration-time curve ($AUC_{$\Delta$PG}$) or by the difference in increase of glucose concentration ($D_{$\Delta$PG}$) at each time between groups with and without gliclazide administration. Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed that $C_{max}, T_{max}$, CL/F (apparent clearance), V/F (apparent volume of distribution) and half-life of gliclazide were $4.69\pm1.38 mg/L, 3.45\pm1.11 h, 1.26\pm0.35 L/h, 17.78\pm5.27 L, and 9.99\pm2.15 h$, respectively. When compared with the no drug administration group, gliclazide decreased significantly the $AUC_{$\Delta$PG}$ s at 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 and 4 h (p<0.05). The $\Delta$PGs were positively correlated with $AUC_{gliclazide}$ at 1 and 1.5 h (p<0.05), and the correlation coefficient was maximum at 1 h (r = 0.642) and gradually decreased at 4 h after the administration. The $AUC_{$\Delta$PG}$s were positively correlated with $AUC_{gliclazide}$ at 1, 2, 3 and 4 h (p<0.05), and the maximum correlation coefficient was obtained at 2 h (r=0.642) after the administration. The $D_{$\Delta$PG}$ reached the maximum at 1 h, remained constant from 1 h to 3 h, and decreased afterwards. Therefore, these observations indicated that maximum hypoglycemic effect of gliclazide was reached at approximately at 1.5 h after the administration and the effect decreased, probably because of the homeostasis mechanism, in health volunteers.

  • The concentrations of quinolones (oxolinic acid; OXA, norlloxacin: NRF & ciprofloxacin: CPF) after oral administration of single doses (20 mg/kg B.W.) were investigated in carp (Cyprinus carpio) kept in freshwater at 20-23$^{\circ}C$. The distribution of the drug was studied after treatment. At points timed, from 1 h to 96 hrs after administration, blood (B), liver (L), kidney (K) and muscle (M) from 5 individuals in each group were collected for analyse with microbiological bioassay method. The peak concentrations were measured at 8 h (L), 12 h (B and K) and 24 h (M) after administration regardless of treated drugs. Considerably high concentrations of CPF (13.8-19.6${\mu}g/m{\ell}$) NRF (11.8-16.9${\mu}g/m{\ell}$) and OXA (10.8-13.9 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$) were revealed during the 24 h. At the last time point of the experiment (96 h), concentrations of all three quinolones were: OXA, 2.3-6.3 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$ ; NRF, 3.1-4.5 ${\mu}g/m{\ell}$ ; CPF, 3.0-5.5${\mu}g/m{\ell}$ in samples. The concentrations decreased subsequently, indicating a first rapid redistribution, followed by a slow phase of elimination. The steady state was observed in blood (12-36 h), liver (12-96 h) and muscle (36-96 h) after the initiation of treatment with OXA. Concerning the compartmental concentrations, (L, K. and M/B concentration ratio), the fluctuation of the ratio was founded at different time points, among drugs. For CPF, highest tissue ratios were prolonged in the order of L>K>M (0.65-1.2/0.82-0.93/1.0-1.7) during the experiments. On the other hand, NRF presented L>K>M (0.65-1.3/0.86-1.0) till 24 h, but L>M>K (0.89-1.26) at 36-96 h. OXA showed L>K>M (0.95-2.1) at 1-8 h, M>K>L (0.51-1.0) at 12-36 hand M>L>K (1.0-2.3) at 48-96 h, respectively.

  • Effects of temperature and initial pH of the medium on production of citric acid from cheese whey permeate by Aspergillus niger were investigated. A. niger was cultivated at four different temperatures (27, 30, 33, $36^{\circ}C$) and four different pHs (2, 3, 4, 5) for 15 days. During the fermentation the concentrations of lactose and citric acid in the culture broth were measured. The maximum production of citric acid which was 33.9 g/l (68.26% yield based on lactose utilized) was obtained at $33^{\circ}C$ and pH 3. The production of citric acid was not much affected by shaking speed. However, the shaking speed was found to influence the form of pellets during cell growth.

  • A series of new chiral [iminophosphoranyl]ferrocenes, {${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-PPh^2-2-CH(Me)NMe_2$} (1: R = Me, $^iPr$), {${\eta}^5{-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2}^1-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)-2-CH(Me)R_2$} (2: $R^1\;=\;Me,\;^iPr;\;R^2\;=\;NMe_2$, OMe), and $({\eta}^5-C_5H_5)Fe${${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-1-PR_2-2-CH(Me)N=PPh_3$} (3:R = Ph, $C_6H_{11}$) have been prepared from the reaction of [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-(N,N-dimethylamino) ethyl]ferrocene with arylazides (1 & 2) and the reaction of phosphine dichlorides ($R_3PCl_{2}$) with [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-aminoethyl]ferrocene (3), respectively. They form palladium complexes of the type $[Pd(C_3H_5)(L)]BF_4$ (4-6: L = 1-3), where the ligand (L) adopts an ${\eta}^2-N,N\;(2)\;or\;{\eta}^2$-P,N (3) as expected. In the case of 1, a potential terdentate, an ${\eta}^2$-P,N mode is realized with the exclusion of the –=NAr group from the coordination sphere. Complexes 4-6 were employed as catalysts for allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylallyl acetate leading to an almost stoichiometric product yield with modest enantiomeric excess (up to 74% ee). Rh(I)-complexes incorporating 1-3 were also prepared in situ for allylic alkylation of cinnamyl acetate as a probe for both regio- and enantioselectivities of the reaction. The reaction exhibited high regiocontrol in favor of a linear achiral isomer regardless of the ligand employed.
