This paper describes the gyroscopic stability and the drag characteristics of the smart munition with a course correction fuze(CCF). A ballistic analysis was conducted to figure out the effect of the canards on the gyroscopic stability of the projectile. The analysis used the commercial ammunition performance evaluation software: Projectile Design and Analysis System(PRODAS). In particular, we compared the PRODAS analysis results to real field test results to investigate the influence of the CCF mounted projectile. In addition, some ballistic simulations were carried out to provide the conditions suitable for wind tunnel tests. Experimental results show that the added drag force by the canards is almost uniform regardless of the Mach number when the projectile is at the normal position where the angle of rotation and the angle of attack are both 0 degrees. However, as the angle of attack of the projectile increases, the additional drag force depends on the deflection of the canards.
The research presents an analytical theory to calculate the characteristics of the bal bearing with waviness in its rolling elements considering the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of bal. The effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment are introduced to the kinematic constraints and force equilibrium equations. and the waviness of rolling elements is modeled by sinusoidal function to calculate the contact force at each ball. The numerical solutions of governing equation of berating due to waviness are calculated by using the Newton-Raphson method. The accuracy of the research is validated by comparing the contact force. contact angle in case of considering the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of bal and the contact force and vibration frequencies in cases of considering waviness with the prior researches respectively. It investigates the stiffness, contact force. displacement and vibration frequencies of the ball bearing considering not only the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of ball but also the waviness of the rolling elements.

For the balancing control of a one-wheel mobile robot, CMG (Control Moment Gyro) can be used as a gyroscopic actuator. Balancing control has to be done in the roll angle direction by an induced gyroscopic motion. Since the dedicated CMG cannot produce the rolling motion of the body directly, the yawing motion with the help of the frictional reaction can be used. The dynamic uncertainties including the chattering of the control input, disturbances, and vibration during the flipping control of the high rotating flywheel, however, cause ill effect on the balancing performance and even lead to the instability of the system. Fuzzy compensation is introduced as an auxiliary control method to prevent the robot from the failure due to leaning aside of the flywheel. Simulation studies are conducted to see the feasibility of the proposed control method. In addition, experimental studies are conducted for the verification of the proposed control.
This paper presents a high-speed performance analysis of ball bearings with ceramic balls under thrust loads. The sliding velocity profiles between a ball and raceways were obtained by the 3-D quasi-dynamic equations of motion including both centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment derived by vector matrix algebra. The friction at the contact areas was obtained by the Bair-Winer's non-Newtonian rheological model and the Hamrock-Dowson's central film thickness in EHL analysis. The nonlinear equations were solved by the Newton-Raphson method and the underrelaxation iterative method. The friction torques and ball behaviors with various loads, ball materials, and contact angles were predicted by this model. It was shown that the friction torque was sensitive to thrust load and contact angle, and that the friction torque and the pitch angle of the bearing with ceramic balls are smaller than those of the bearing with steel balls.
An analytical method using the substructure synthesis and assumed modes method is developed to investigate the effect of flexibility of bladed disk assembly on vibrational modes of flexible rotor system. In modeling the system, Coriolis forces, gyroscopic moments, and centrifugal stiffening effects are taken into account. Then the coupled vibrations between the shaft and bladed disk are extensively investigated using simplistic models, as the shaft rotational speed and the pretwist and stagger angles of blade are varied.
Inertial measurement units (IMUs) are widely used for wearable motion-capturing systems in the fields of biomechanics and robotics. When the IMUs are combined with optical motion sensors (hereafter, OPTs) for their complementary capabilities, it is necessary to align the coordinate system orientations between the IMU and OPT. In this study, we compare the application of two coordinate transformation-based orientation alignment methods between two coordinate systems. The first method (M1) applies angular velocity coordinate transformation, while the other method (M2) applies gyroscopic angle coordinate transformation. In M1 and M2, the angular velocities and angles, respectively, are acquired during random movement for a least-square algorithm to determine the alignment matrix between the two coordinate systems. The performance of each method is evaluated under various conditions according to the type of motion during measurement, number of data points, amount of noise, and the alignment matrix. The results show that M1 is free from drift errors, while drift errors are present in most cases where M2 is applied. Thus, this study indicates that M1 has a far superior performance than M2 for the alignment of IMU and OPT coordinate systems for motion analysis.

An analytical procedure on the base of the substructure synthesis and assumed modes method is developed to investigate the flexibility effect of bladed disk assembly on vibrational modes of flexible rotor system. In modeling the system, Coriolis forces, gyroscopic moments, and centrifugal stiffening effects are taken into account. The coupled vibrations between the shaft and bladed disk are then extensively investigated through the numerical simulation of simplified models, with varying the shaft rotational speed and the prewist and stagger angles of the blade. It is found that the Coriolis and inertia forces and the inertia torque, which are induced by the one nodal diameter modes of the bladed disk and vary depending upon the stagger and prewist angles, lead to the coupled motions of the shaft and the bladed disk.

Developments of Solid-State Gyroscopy during last decades are impressive and were based on thin-walled shell resonators like HRG or CRG made from fused quartz or leuko-sapphire. However, a number of design choices for inertial-grade gyroscopes, which can be used for high-g applications and for mass- or middle-scale production, is still very limited. So, considerations of fundamental physical effects in solids that can be used for development of a miniature, completely solid-state, and lower-cost sensor look urgent. There is a variety of different types of bulk acoustic (elastic) waves (BAW) in anisotropic solids. Shear waves with different variants of their polarization have to be studied especially carefully, because shear sounds in glasses and crystals are sensitive to a turn of the solid as a whole, and, so, they can be used for development of gyroscopic sensors. For an isotropic medium (for a glass or a fine polycrystalline body), classic Lame's theorem (so-called, a general solution of Elasticity Theory or Green-Lame's representation) has been modified for enough general case: an elastic medium rotated about an arbitrary set of axes. Travelling, standing, and mixed shear waves propagating in an infinite isotopic medium (or between a pair of parallel reflecting surfaces) have been considered too. An analogy with classic Foucault's pendulum has been underlined for the effect of a turn of a polarizational plane (i.e., an integration effect for an input angular rate) due to a medium's turn about the axis of the wave propagation. These cases demonstrate a whole-angle regime of gyroscopic operation. Single-crystals are anisotropic media, and, therefore, to reflect influence of the crystal's rotation, classic Christoffel-Green's tensors have been modified. Cases of acoustic axes corresponding to equal velocities for a pair of the pure-transverse (shear) waves have of an evident applied interest. For such a special direction in a crystal, different polarizations of waves are possible, and the gyroscopic effect of "polarizational precession" can be observed like for a glass. Naturally, formation of a wave pattern in a massive elastic body is much more complex due to reflections from its boundaries. Some of these complexities can be eliminated. However, a non-homogeneity has a fundamental nature for any amorphous medium due to its thermodynamically-unstable micro-structure, having fluctuations of the rapidly-frozen liquid. For single-crystalline structures, blockness (walls of dislocations) plays a similar role. Physical nature and kinematic particularities of several typical "drifts" in polarizational BAW gyros (P-BAW) have been considered briefly too. They include irregular precessions ("polarizational beats") due to: non-homogeneity of mass density and elastic moduli, dissymmetry of intrinsic losses, and an angular mismatch between propagation and acoustic axes.
