A study on the awareness of oral health behavior and oral health education for a middle schools and high schools in Busan, Gyeongnam province (부산·경남 일부 중고등학생의 구강보건행동 및 구강보건교육경험 인지도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to transfer the knowledge of oral health care and to improve the oral health after the effective education of oral health behavior. The survey is conducted for 484 middle and high school students in Busan and Gyeongnam province about the oral health behavior, the cause and the preventive of oral diseases and oral health education experience by the self-answering method. The date was analysed using the SPSS 13.0 program. The obtained result were as follows. 1. 38.8% students in middle school have been to the dentist within one year and the reason is the dental care that is to 61.7% in the case of the high school students. 2. For the daily toothbrushing frequency. above 3 times is highest to 57.9% in middle school students and 2 times 59.9% in high school students. 3. 45.9% and 45.0% students in middle and high school have the regular dental check-ups to prevent the dental caries and periodontal disease with greatest portion. 4. 35.7% respondents had experienced oral health education. 48% of them got the education from the dental clinics. 82.2% of the education method is a theory and the contents is toothbrushing method with 58.7% portion. 5. 86% respondents of middle school students answered that regular oral health education is necessary and 78.1% students are willing to participate in the oral health education. The results of this study propose that the regular dental check-ups for middle and high school students enable them have early medical treatment and protection against oral disease. Also for the effective oral health education, those program and various media should be developed systematically to enhance the students' motive for oral health.

Relationship of Topography and Microbial Community from Paddy Soils in Gyeongnam Province (경남지역 논 토양 지형과 미생물 군집의 관계)

  • The present study was aimed to evaluate the soil microbial communities by fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) method in paddy soils at 20 sites in Gyeongnam Province. The soil microbial biomass carbon content of fan and valley $1,266mg\;kg^{-1}$ was higher than alluvial plain $578mg\;kg^{-1}$ (p<0.05). In addition, The dehydrogenase activity of fan and valley $204{\mu}g\;TPF\;g^{-1}\;24h^{-1}$ was higher than alluvial plain $93{\mu}g\;TPF\;g^{-1}\;24h^{-1}$ (p<0.05). The communities of total bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria in the fan and valley paddy soils were significantly higher than those in the alluvial plain paddy soils (p<0.05). Total bacteria communities should be considered as a potential responsible factor for the obvious microbial community differentiation that was observed between the fan and valley and alluvial plain in paddy soils.

Impacts of Soil Texture on Microbial Community from Paddy Soils in Gyeongnam Province (경남지역 논 토양 토성에 따른 미생물 군집 변화)

  • The present study evaluated the soil microbial communities by fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) method in paddy soils at 11 sites for silt loam, 4 sites for sandy loam, and 5 sites for loam in Gyeongnam Province. The FAME content of fungi in loam ($76nmol\;g^{-1}$) was higher than that of in sandy loam ($45nmol\;g^{-1}$). Sandy loam had significantly lower ratio of cy19:0 to 18:$1{\omega}7c$ compared with that of silt loam (p<0.05), indicating that microbial stress decreased. In addition, actinomycetes community of loam was higher than that of sandy loam.

Effect of Conjugated Linoleic Acid(CLA) Feeding Levels and Periods on Textural Property and Fatty Acid Composition of Pork (Conjugated Linoleic Acid(CLA) 급여수준과 급여기간이 돈육의 조직감과 지방산 조성에 미치는영향)

  • To investigate the effects of conjugated linoleic acid added diet feeding on CLA accumulation and quality characteristics of pork meat. The CLA used to add in diet was chemically synthesized by alkaline isomerization method with corn oil. Pigs were divided into 5 treatment groups(4 pigs/group) and subjected to one of five treatment diets(0, 1.25% CLA for 2 weeks, 2.5% CLA for 2 weeks, 1.25% CLA for 4 weeks and 2.5% CLA for 4 weeks, CLA diets; total fed diets) before slaughter. Pork loin were collected from the animals(110 kg body weight) slaughtering at the commercial slaughter house. Pork loin meat were aerobic packaged and then stored during 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14 days at 4$^{\circ}C$. Samples were analyzed for shear force value, texture, TBARS, fatty acid composition, cholesterol and CLA content. CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) higher shear force value compared to those of control group at 11, 14 days of cold storage. All treatments were decreased significantly as the storage period passed. There was a not significantly difference in texture between control and CLA treatment groups. All CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) lower TBARS value than the control. TBARS value was increased significantly during storage in all treatment. CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) lower cholesterol content compared to those of control group. As dietary CLA was increased in feed, the content of CLA was increased, but the control was almost not detected. The contents of CLA were not significantly changed during chilled storage for 14 days. In the change of fatty acid composition, the contents of oleic, linoleic and arachidonic were decreased by dietary CLA-supplementation, whereas the increase level of CLA-supplementation resulted in the higher palmitic and stearic acid. In all results, CLA could be accumulated in pork meat and its antioxidant capability has been indicated. It was suggested that dietary CLA-supplementation could be produced high quality pork.

Effects of Replacement Sodium Chloride on the Quality Characteristices of Emulsion-type Sausages (대체염 첨가가 유화형 소시지의 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of substituting NaCl by sodium citrate, potassium lactate and calcium ascorbate (40%) on the quality characteristics of emulsion-type sausages. The pH of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with sodium citrate were higher than those of control and the other(P<0.05). The CIE L* value emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with sodium citrate were higher than those of control and the other(P<0.05). The CIE a* value emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with potassium lactate were higher than those of control and the other, but CIE b* value were lower(P<0.05). The hardness and gumminess of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with sodium citrate were higher than those of control and the other. The Na content of emulsion-type sausage of substitution NaCl with calcium ascorbate were lower than those of control and the other, but Ca content were higher(P<0.05). The K and Fe content of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with potassium lactate were higher than those of control and the other(P<0.05). The saltiness of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with sodium citrate were higher than those of control and the other(P<0.05). The flavor of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with calcium ascorbate were higher than those of control(P<0.05).

A Study of Clinical Model for Radiation Therapy in Lung Cancer Patients of Busan and South Gyeongnam Province (부산, 경남지역 폐암 환자의 방사선치료 이용에 대한 임상 결정 모델 연구)

  • Radiation therapy for lung cancer is an effective treatment during monotherapy or combination therapy. Studies have reported that the optimum utilization rate of radiation therapy is estimated at 61% to 74%. Radiation therapy in Korea has been investigated to be low; further studies are needed. This study was intended to assess the appropriateness of the use of radiation and to reveal the use of radiation therapy-related factors by examining radiation therapy in lung cancer patients of Busan and South Gyeongnam Province. This study was aimed at the population diagnosed with lung cancer in Busan and South Gyeongnam Province. To conduct the study, 1036 patients enrolled in two hospitals were collected and 897 appropriate as subjects were selected. We compared the optimum utilization rate and actual rate of radiation therapy, and revealed the adequacy and related factors for use of radiotherapy. Of 897 patients, 503 (56%) were treated with medical therapy and 394 (44%) were given radiotherapy. The radiotherapy utilization rate of all lung cancer patients was 42%. The proportion of non-small cell lung cancer by histologic type was 33% and that of small cell lung cancer was 90%. Factors related to radiation therapy used in cancer were age, histological type, clinical stage, doctor refereed to, and clinical examination. Compared to radiation utilization by region (site), curative chest therapy was 42%; palliative treatment was 26%. In the comparison of histologic types, utilization of small-cell lung cancer is lower; the lowest especially in the stage III. Utilization of radiation therapy in Busan and South Gyeongnam Province was lower than the reasonable one. Utilization difference could be explained by patient factors, tumor factors, and health service factors. To improve utilization,development ofoutreach service programs and activation of the multidisciplinary team are required.

Effects of Addition of Citron Peel Powder on the Quality Characteristices of Emulsion-type Sausages (유자과피 분말 첨가가 유화형 소시지의 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of addition of citron peel powder(0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%) on the quality characteristics of emulsion-type sausages. The pH, color, TBARS, residual nitrite content and textural properties were evaluated. The pH values of sausage containing citron peel powder were significantly(P<0.05) lower compared to those for control. The CIE $L^*$ and $a^*$ values of sausage containing citron peel powder tended to similar to control, but the CIE $b^*$ values were significantly(p<0.05) higher in the sausage containing citron peel powder. The TBARS values of sausage containing 0.9% citron peel powder were significantly(P<0.05) lower than those of control at 20, 40 and 60 days of storage. The residual nitrite content of sausage containing citron peel powder were significantly(P<0.05) lower compared to control. The hardness values of sausage containing citron peel powder were significantly(P<0.05) higher than those of control, but the cohesiveness, springiness and gumminess were significantly(P<0.05) lower in the sausage containing citron peel powder.

A survey of Newcastle disease virus antibody titers on slaughtered chickens (도계장 출하 닭에 대한 뉴캐슬병 항체가 조사)

  • To investigate serum antibody titers of Newcastle disease (ND) virus, serum samples were collected from 19,774 slaughtered chickens from 862 farms in Geoje, Goseong, Tongyung and other province during the period from January 2001 to December 2005. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. The negative percentage of ND antibody titer with below 1.0 levels decreased from 46.7% in 2001 to 40.5% in 2004 but those of it increased to 47.0% in 2005 and the positive percentage of ND antibody titer with higher 5 levels increased from 15.8% in 2001 to 26.2% in 2005. 2. The season levels of ND antibody titer showed various levels according to seasons but the general trend of ND antibody titer decreased in the later half of the year than those of the first half of the year. 3. The negative percentage of ND antibody titer on provinces decreased from 52.0% (2001) to 36.2% (2004) in Goseong but those of it increased to 51.4% in 2005. The negative percentage of ND antibody titer of Tongyung and other provinces increased from 51.0%, 28.5% (2001) to 55.0% and 44.3% (2005), respectively. 4. The year average levels of ND antibody titer increased from 2.2 to 2.6 during 2001- 2004 but those of it decreased to 2.4 in 2005. The provinces average levels of ND antibody titer increased from 2.0 to 2.8 during 2001 - 2005 and others provinces except Gyeongnam decreased from 3.3 to 2.6 during the 2001-2005. 5. The farm average levels of ND antibody titer with below 1.0 levels decreased from 26.3% in 2001 to 10.2% in 2004 but those of it increased to 17.6% in 2005 and those of below 1.0 or 2.0 levels increased from 17.9% (2001) to 27.7% (2005). The protective levels of ND antibody titer with higher 5.0 levels increased from 2.1% in 2001 to 8.8% in 2005.

A Study for the Indoor Air Concentration of VOCs and HCHO in Newly Built and Remodeled Classrooms (신개축 교사내 실내공기중 휘발성유기화합물과 폼알데히드의 농도 특성)

  • Objectives: The indoor air quality of newly-built (NC) and remodeled (RC) school classrooms was assessed. The primary aim was to show correlations between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde (HCHO) pollutant levels. Methods: This study investigated the indoor air concentrations of VOCs and HCHO at 26 sites of newly built and 68 sites of remodeled classrooms located in South Gyeongsang Province between 2010 and 2012. VOCs in the indoor air were determined by adsorbent tube (Tenax TA) and automatic thermal desorption coupled with GC-MS analysis. Target analytes were five VOCs: benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, and styrene. HCHO was collected with a 2,4-DNPH cartridge and analyzed by HPLC. Conclusions: This study estimated that indoor VOCs and HCHO concentrations in the classrooms were mainly affected by interior building materials and classroom equipment. For proper indoor air quality in schools, classroom air should be improved through reduction of hazardous materials by adequate ventilation, selecting environmental friendly materials, etc.

Seasonal Occurrences and Timing for Chemical Control of Rhopalosipnum rufiabdominalis (Sasaki) (Homoptera: Aphididae) in Japanese Apricot (붉은테두리진딧물(Rhopalosipnum rufiabdominalis (Sasaki))에 의한 매실나무 신초 피해 및 방제적기)

  • Occurrences of Rhopalosipnum rufiabdominalis damage in the leaves of Japanese apricots were observed in Hadong, Gyeongnam Province, a major producing area. R. rufiabdominalis occurred from early May to mid October, with the peak occurrence of damaged leaves in mid May. To find proper timing of chemical control against R. rufiabdominalis, acetamiprid WP was sprayed weekly from 3 April, before budbreak, to 8 May in 2007. The best time for control R. rufiabdominalis was on 17 April 2007, at which the leaves were still tender and developing up to 3 to 5 leaves.
