  • System grounding is applied to the neutral point of a power source to secure the from any abnormal voltage and/or grounding fault. System grounding, which is applied mainly in ships is an ungrounded and resistance grounded system. Vessels using the MV power system with 3.3kV, 6.6kV, and 11kV mainly adopt a high resistance grounding system among the resistance grounding systems. The ground fault accounts for 95% of all faults occurring in the electrical system and when a fault occurs, the line-to-ground voltage of the power system is increased excessively, which adversely affects the onboard insulation system. This study analyzed the variation characteristics of the line-to-ground voltage neutral point according to the degree of ground fault in a resistance ground system applied in vessels. For this purpose, the characteristics of the grounding system were first explained, and the modeling of the neutral point potential of the line-to-ground voltage of the resistance grounding system in the vessels was derived. Finally, this study examined how the line-to-ground voltage, line voltage, and neutral point change according to various variable environments through MATLAB simulations.

  • This paper proposes a model to analyze the fault factors of air-to-ground weapon delivery utilizing software fault localization methods. In the previous study, to figure out the factors to affect the accuracy of air-to-ground weapon delivery, the FBEL (Factor-based Error Localization) method had been proposed and the fault factors were analyzed based on the method. But in the study, the correlation between weapon delivery accuracy and the fault factors could not be revealed because the firing accuracy among several factors was fixed. In this paper we propose a more precise fault analysis model driven through a study of the correlation among the fault factors of weapon delivery, and a method to estimate the possibility of faults with the limited number of test cases utilizing the model. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the simulation utilizing real delivery data. and weapons delivery testing in the evaluation of which element affecting the accuracy of analysis that was available to be used successfully.

  • In this paper, this is a study on the correction of protection relays to monitor temporary power facilities for storage tanks especially transformers to block and protect faults such as insulation breakdown. When an abnormality such as a short circuit or a ground fault occurs in the power system, it is important to detect this quickly cut off the device and equipment in which the fault occurred and separate it from the power system to correct the protection relay so that it does not interfere with power supply. In addition the fault current calculation that accurately applies the fault type and the cause of the fault for protection cooperation will be the most important factor in the correction of the protection relay. For protection coordination a study was conducted on the method of coordination for protection of power facility protection for storage tanks such as over current relay, ground over current relay, under voltage relay, and ground over voltage relay applied to temporary.

  • The seismic performance of the tall building equipped with a tuned mass damper (TMD) considering soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects is well studied in the literature. However, these studies are performed on the nominal model of the seismic-excited structural system with SSI. Hence, the outcomes of the studies may not valid for the actual structural system. To address the study gap, the reliability theory as a useful and powerful method is utilized in the paper. The present study aims to carry out reliability analyses on tall buildings equipped with TMD under near-field pulse-like (NFPL) ground motions considering SSI effects using a subset simulation (SS) method. In the presence of uncertainties of the structural model, TMD device, foundation, soil, and near-field pulse-like ground motions, the numerical studies are performed on a benchmark 40-story building and the failure probabilities of the structures with and without TMD are evaluated. Three types of soils (dense, medium, and soft soils), different earthquake magnitudes (Mw = 7,0. 7,25. 7,5 ), different nearest fault distances (r = 5. 10 and 15 km), and three seismic performance levels of immediate occupancy (IO), life safety (LS), and collapse prevention (CP) are considered in this study. The results show that tall buildings built near faults and on soft soils are more affected by uncertainties of the structural and ground motion models. Hence, ignoring these uncertainties may result in an inaccurate estimation of the maximum seismic responses. Also, it is found the TMD is not able to reduce the failure probabilities of the structure in the IO seismic performance level, especially for high earthquake magnitudes and structures built near the fault. However, TMD is significantly effective in the reduction of failure probability for the LS and CP performance levels. For weak earthquakes and long fault distances, the failure probabilities of both structures with and without TMD are near zero, and the efficiency of the TMD in the reduction of failure probabilities is reduced by increasing earthquake magnitudes and the reduction of fault distance. As soil softness increases, the failure probability of structures both with and without TMD often increases, especially for severe near-fault earthquake motion.

  • A study on the geological structure and geothermal gradient distribution was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of developing a new geothermal field in the Yusong area. It is suggested that geothermal water in the Yusong area is closely related with faults, dykes, and their dipping characteristics with the study of geothermal gradient distribution. A fault of EW direction locates in northern boundary of the study area and another fault of N40{\citc}W$ crosses the EW fault at the western part of the study area. Locations of faults are recognized quite well by lineaments, geophysical exploration and geothermal gradient distribution characteristics. Three sets of dyke are found in the study area. According to the result of the geothermal gradient distribution study, the location of geothermal anomaly belt and dykes coincide each other, and the area has the temperature gradient of larger than 3$^{\circ}C$ between the depths of 0.5m and 1.0m below ground surface. The thermal anomaly belt those temperature gradient is larger than 2.5$^{\circ}C$ between the depths of 0.5m and 1.Om below ground surface is expected in the direction of N80{\citc}W$ in the study area. The dirping of dyke is almost vertical according to the linear distribution of dykes on surface and the results of geophysical survey. From the distribution of geothermal anomaly belt and the locations of dyke, three locations for the development of hot spring water could be recommended and the depth that ensure over 4$0^{\circ}C$ geotheraral water is estimated as 170~200m below the ground surface.

  • High voltage distribution lines in the electric railway system placed according track with communication lines and signal equipments. Case of the over head lines is occurrence the many fault because lightning, rainstorm, damage from the sea wind and so on. According this fault caused protection device to wrong operation. One line ground fault that occurs most frequently in railway high voltage distribution lines and sort of faults is line short, three line ground breaking of a wire, and so on. For this reason we need precise maintenance for prevent of the faults. The most important is early detection and fast restoration in time of fault for a safety transit. In order to develop an advanced fault location device for 22.9[kV] distribution power network in electric railway system this paper deals with new fault locating algorithm using flow technique which enable to determine the location of the fault accurately. To demonstrate its superiorities, the case studies with the algorithm and the fault analysis using PSCAD/EMTDC (Power System Computer Aided Design/Electro Magnetic Transients DC Analysis Program) were carried out with the models of direct-grounded 22.9[kV] distribution network which is supposed to be the grounding method for electric railway system in Korea.

  • We simulated the current limiting characteristics of resistive and inductive SFCLs with 100 ${\omega}$ of impedances for a single and double line-to-ground faults in the 154 kV grid between two substations nearby Seoul. The transient current at the faults includes not. only high AC current up to 44 kA but also significant DC component as high as 4 kA. The DC current is greater and lasts longer for the double line-to-ground fault than for the single line-to-ground fault. The inductive SFCL limited the fault current more effectively than the resistive one. The DC component, however, was greater and diminishes slower for the inductive SFCL than for the resistive one.

  • The basic purpose of grounding is for human safety and normal operation of system related to electrical shock hazard by faults of electrical equipments. A grounding electrode is defined as a conducting element that connects electrical systems and/or equipment to the earth. The lowest possible resistance connection to the earth is sought from the grounding electrode. The grounding electrode is the foundation of the electrical safety system. The resistance to ground of vertical electrodes buried in the two deference soil structures has been analyzed for a length of electrodes and soil parameters. The equation of ground resistance of vertical electrodes are Tagg's equation for uniform soil models, and modified equation of Dwight equation for two-layer soil model. In this paper, compared with results of two equations are calculated values of vertical electrode in uniform and two-layer soil models.

  • This paper presents a new one-terminal numerical algorithm for fault location estimation and for faults recognition. The proposed algorithm are derived for the case of most frequent single-phase line to ground fault in the time domain. The arc voltage wave shape is modeled numerically on the basis of a great number of arc voltage records obtained by transient recorder. From the calculated arc voltage amplitude it can make a decision whether the fault is permanent of transient. In this paper the algorithm uses a very short data window and enables fast fault detection and classification for real-time transmission line protection. To test the validity of the proposed algorithm the Electro-Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP/ATP) is used.

  • It is very important to evaluate predictable problems diversely such as stability of a tunnel and structures when tunnel is inevitably constructed in the area where is adjacent to a structure and low overburden. Double electrified railway design on the third section of Donghae-Nambu line studied in this paper has some problems mentioned above. So more careful works are required before construction. In this study, ground surrounding is composed of faults, fault zone and set back about 13m from a Buddhist temple located on the upper part of the tunnel. From these conditions, this case study presents proper methods considering ground condition, effects of blasting and civil petitions. It is tried to make the tunnel and Buddhist temple stable by analytical technique and analysis of existing cases. And design considering stability of tunnel and adjacent structure during operation is carried out as well. Especially, environmentally friendly railway tunnel which is appropriate to the local condition and surroundings is designed by minimizing noise and vibration that is able to occur during construction and train service. From now on, this study is helpful to better design in the case of tunnel design which has to consider civil petition.
