In order to achieve success in ground operations, searching for moving targets is one of critical factors. Usually, the system of searching for adversary ground moving targets has complex properties which includes target's moving characteristics, camouflage level, terrain, weather, available search time window, distance between target and searcher, moving speed, target's tactics, etc. The purpose of this paper is to present a practical quantitative method for effectively searching for infiltrated moving targets considering aforementioned complex properties. Based upon search theories, this paper consists of two parts. One is infiltration route analysis, through terrain and mobility analysis. The other is building dynamic probability maps through Monte Carlo simulation to determine the prioritized searching area for moving targets. This study primarily considers ground moving targets' moving pattern. These move by foot and because terrain has a great effect on the target's movement, they generally travel along a constrained path. With the ideas based on the terrain's effect, this study deliberately performed terrain and mobility analysis and built a constrained path. In addition, dynamic probability maps taking terrain condition and a target's moving speed into consideration is proposed. This analysis is considerably distinct from other existing studies using supposed transition probability for searching moving targets. A case study is performed to validate the effectiveness and usefulness of our methodology. Also, this study suggests that the proposed approach can be used for searching for infiltrated ground moving target within critical time window. The proposed method could be used not only to assist a searcher's mission planning, but also to support the tactical commander's timely decision making ability and ensure the operations' success.
SAR ground moving target indicator (GMTI) has long been an important issue for SAR advanced applications. As spatial resolution of space-borne SAR system has been significantly improved recently, the GMTI becomes a very useful tool. Various GMTI techniques have been developed particularly using multi-channel SAR systems. It is, however, still problematic to detect ground moving targets within single channel SAR images while it is not practical to access high resolution multi-channel space-borne SAR systems. Once a ground moving target is detected, it is possible to retrieve twodimensional velocities of the target from single channel space-borne SAR with an accuracy of about 5 % if moving faster than 3 m/s. This paper presents a quick-and-dirty method for detecting ground moving targets from single channel SAR single-look complex (SLC) images by differentiation. Since the signal powers of derivatives present Doppler centroid and rate, it is very efficient and effective for detection of non-stationary targets. The derivatives correlate well with velocities retrieved by a precise method with a correlation coefficient $R^2$ of 0.62, which is well enough to detect the ground moving targets. While the approach is theoretically straightforward, it is necessary to remove the effects of residual Doppler rate before finalizing the ground moving target candidates. The confidence level of results largely depends on the efficiency and effectiveness of the residual Doppler rate removal method. Application results using TerraSAR-X and truck-mounted corner reflectors validated the efficiency of the method. While the derivatives of moving targets remain easily detectable, the signal energy of stationary corner reflectors was suppressed by about 18.5 dB. It results in an easy detection of ground targets moving faster than 8.8 km/h. The proposed method is applicable to any high resolution single channel SAR systems including KOMPSAT-5.
In tactical theater, it is crucial to detect ground moving targets and to locate them precisely. This problem can be resolved by using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors providing GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) capability. In general, to implement a robust GMTI sensor is not simple because of the strong competitions between target signals and clutter signals on the ground, and low speed of moving targets. Contrary to the case that a delay canceller is mostly suitable for ground surveillance radars, DPCA (Displaced Phase Centered Antenna) or STAP (Space Time Adaptive Processing) techniques have been adapted for GMT! function of modem airborne radars. In this paper, anew scheme of DPCA using two passive antennas with vertical separation is proposed, which also provides good clutter cancellation performance. The proposed scheme enables us to scan straight ahead of the carrying platform that is impossible with typical DPCA configuration. Simulations using various conditions have been performed to validate the proposed scheme, and the results are acceptable.

The proposed scheme realizes full azimuth coverage for DPCA operation on an airborne platform, which is impossible with classical DPCA configuration. Spaceborne sparse array radar for ground moving targets indication (GMTI) has outstanding advantage over full array radar for constructing ultra-large aperture. Rapid development of millimeter wave (MMW) technology make it possible for realizing MMW GMTI radar, which is much more sensitive to slow moving ground target. The paper presented the system model of a multi-carrier frequency sparse array MMW radar as well as preliminary simulation results, which showed future application of the system is very promising.

This paper reports a sliding window filtering approach for ground moving targets with cross-correlated sensor noise and uncertainty. In addition, the effect of uncertain parameters during a tracking error on the model performance is considered. A distributed fusion sliding window filter is also proposed. The distributed fusion filtering algorithm represents the optimal linear combination of local filters under the minimum mean-square error criterion. The derivation of the error cross-covariances between the local sliding window filters is the key to the proposed method. Simulation results of the motion of the ground moving target a demonstrate high accuracy and computational efficiency of the distributed fusion sliding window filter.
The potential use of ranging sensors for reducing the occurrence of accidents in real environment is explored by many companies and laboratories. Most of the sensors under investigation utilize the FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) waveforms. The automotive environment presents to the FMCW radar sensor a multitude of moving and fixed targets and the sensor must detect and track only the targets which may pose a threat of collision or passengers accident. The sensor must function accurately in the presence of background echoes generated by moving and fixed targets, ground reflections, atmospheric noises, including rains, fog, and, snow and noise generated within the receiver. False detection of the desired target in this environment may issue false alarms. That may be dangerous to the passenger and the vehicle. A high false alarm rate is totally unacceptable. The false alarm mechanism consists of noise peaks, crossing the threshold and the undesired response of the system to off lane targets which are not potentially hazardous to the radar equipped vehicle. This paper presents an improve technique safety performance for driver-less operation using FMCW radar sensors.

Semi-active laser missile systems with high accuracy are necessary to asymmetric threats, such as UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). They are usually used to attack stationary or slow moving targets, therefore we should study on the laser designator which can detect and track fast moving targets in order to deal with UAV. In this study, design specifications are came up through performance analysis of existing laser designators, and laser designation method for fast moving target is developed. The detection and tracking performance of developed laser designator are verified through inside/outside tests on ground/aerial stationary/moving targets. Through this study, we obtain laser designator techniques that could be applied to actual semi-active laser missile systems.

Recently, well-known SAR imaging algorithms have been developed to form the focused SAR images for stationary targets. In general, the conventional methods exploit the range variation only defined by the motion of radar platform and SAR geometry. However, for SAR imaging of ground moving targets, the motion of the targets induces an additional range shift, yielding the blurred SAR images. To overcome the problem, in this paper we propose an effective motion compensation algorithm operated under a multi-channel SAR, named along-track interferometry(ATI) and phase unwrapping to directly estimate the motion parameters of the targets. In simulations, 50 Monte-Carlo simulation results show the effectiveness of the algorithm in the presence of noise.
