  • The scale model grounding systems to study the behavior of grounding system in uniform soils have been designed and fabricated. Constructional details and instrumentation have been discussed. To verify the accuracy of the results obtained from the experimental tests, they have been compared with computer calculation results. Also, in order to assess the effectiveness of bonding two grounding systems, grounding grid conductors which were downsized as a scale factor of 100:1 were analyzed by using the scale model method. A profile of GPR(Grounding Potential Rise) of each case was measured. The scale model grounding system presented in this paper can be valuable tool to analyze the ground potential profile and ground resistance of practical grounding system.

  • During the excavation of a tunnel portal, failure zones around the tunnel heading occur and also the ground supports itself. In a portal, its location and the ground characteristic have a great influence on the stability of the tunnel. Therefore, the failure mechanism of a tunnel heading and how to assess the stability of the tunnel are very important. In this paper, the numerical analyses were executed to evaluate the safety factor using strength reduction technique. The influence area of an excavation was also predicted through a case study in which no-support case and support case with the Pattern P-6 were compared in terms of the ground class and the shear strain.

  • This letter presents a small-sized, high-power single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch with defected ground structure (DGS) for wireless broadband Internet application. To reduce the circuit size by using a slow-wave characteristic, the DGS is used for the quarter-wave (${\lambda}$/4) transmission line of the switch. To secure a high degree of isolation, the switch with DGS is composed of shunt-connected PIN diodes. It shows an insertion loss of 0.8 dB, an isolation of 50 dB or more, and power capability of at least 50 W at 2.3 GHz. The switch shows very similar performance to the conventional shunt-type switch, but the circuit size is reduced by about 50% simply with the use of DGS patterns.

  • This paper presents the methods which estimate the influence of ground subsidence and the stability of buildings by tunnel excavation in urban area. First, we study the behaviour of ground subsidence using neural network and numerical method. And we analyze the characteristic of both methods. Using the both methods, we evaluate the stability of buildings by subway tunnel excavation and we compare the results of the neural network and numerical analysis.

  • In the S.C.W (soil cement wall) grouting solution, Cement grout ratio of 1 part Portland cement and 1part water is being used. However, Co2 and harmful heavy metals such as cr6+ are discharged in the process, causing a serious environmental issue. The purpose of the present study is therefore to substitute cement grout to inorganic binder and identify durability properties of ground solidification materials.

  • The S-Band SSPA is front-end equipment to transmit both LRIT and HRIT to COMS. To provide the required EIRP, S-Band SSPA is designed to generate maximum 1kW power at its 1dB gain compression point (P1dB). Due to the operation for 24 hours per seven days, the verification on the performance of S-Band SSPA was performed thoroughly. This paper presents that major requirements such as maximum 1kW power, maximum -26dBc of IMD characteristic at 500W output and around -57dBc of coupling factor were verified through proposed test configuration.

  • This paper deals with the pulse generator using PFN(Pulse Forming Network), and its operation characteristics and application. Two kinds of pulse generator were composed of the best appropriate condition circuit. The output current of the one pulse generator has the rise time of 28 ns and the pulse duration of $7{\mu}s$. The other pulse generator has high current of about 2kA. By use of the former generator with rapid rise time, the impulse impedance characteristic of ground electrodes was investigated with measuring the ground potential rise when the pulse current was injected into the ground electrode.

  • In this paper a DPDT(Double-Pole Double Through) switch with defected ground structure(DGS) is proposed. The equivalent circuit for the proposed switch structure is derived according to based on equivalent circuit of proposed DGS unit structure. The equivalent circuit parameters of DGS unit are extracted by using the circuit analysis method. The on/off operation of the proposed switch is obtained by varying the capacitance of the varactor diode at the defected ground plane. In the case of ON state, the insertion loss of the fabricated DPDT was shown under 1dB. And in OFF state, we found the rejection characteristic over 20dB at the designed frequency 2.45GHz. The experimental results show excellent insertion loss at on state and isolation at off state.

  • When judging the ground by core-logging, depth of coring might be stopped by coming into view of the moderately weathered rock and also considered as bedrock line. However, highly weathered rock may appear again, if coring more, because there are core-stones in the residual soil and highly weathered rock by the effect of hydraulic-thermal differentiation and does the irregular rock weathering or metamorphic rock region. Therefore, there are room for misunderstanding of diagnosing the moderately weathered rock. Even though the irregular ground where the corestones were come out will show clear geotechnical differences between the ground and the gradually weathered bedrock, nowadays, the construction sites do not take into account the characteristic of core-stone region. In conclusion, to study the failure-strength characteristics of soil layers containing core-stones, we made artificial core-stones and varied percentage of corestones, and measured cohesion and friction factors to adjust them to construction sites containing corestones such as slope, tunnel, and underground.

  • In this study, ground reaction force(GRF), absolute symmetry index(ASI) and coefficient of variation(CV) of fixed, single-axis and multi-axis prosthetic ankle assemblies were investigated to show the biomechanical evaluation for above knee amputees. In the experiments, 37 normal male volunteers, two male and two female AK amputees were tested with fixed, single-axis and multi-axis prosthetic ankle assembly. A gait analysis was carried out to derive the ratio of GRF to weight as the percentage of total stance phase for ten points. The results showed that fixed-axis ankle was superior to the other two ankle assemblies for the characteristic of forwarding and breaking forces. Multi-axis ankle was relatively superior to the other two ankle assemblies for gait balancing and movement of the center for mass. single-axis ankle was relatively superior to the other two ankle assemblies for CV and ASI of GRF.
