Differences in the Length Change Pattern of the Medial Gastrocnemius Muscle-Tendon Complex and Fascicle during Gait and One-legged and Two-legged Vertical Jumping (보행과 한발·두발 수직점프 수행 시 내측비복근 근-건 복합체와 근섬유다발의 길이 변화 패턴의 차이)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate difference in fascicle behavior of the medial gastrocnemius during the locomotion with varying intensities, such as gait and one-legged and two-legged vertical jumping. Methods : Six subjects (3 males and 3 females; age: $27.2{\pm}1.6yrs.$, body mass: $62.8{\pm}9.8kg$, height: $169.6{\pm}8.5cm$) performed normal gait (G) at preferred speed and maximum vertical jumping with one (OJ) and two (TJ) legs. While subjects were performing the given tasks, the hip, knee and ankle joint motion and ground reaction force was monitored using a 8-infrared camera motion analysis system with two forceplates. Simultaneously, electromyography of the triceps surae muscles, and the fascicle length of the medial gastrocnemius were recorded using a real-time ultrasound imaging machine. Results : Comparing to gait, the kinematic and kinetic parameters of TJ and OJ were found to be significantly different. Along with those parameters, change in the medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle-tendon complex (MTC) length ($50.57{\pm}6.20mm$ for TJ and $44.14{\pm}5.39mm$ for OJ) and changes in the fascicle length of the MG ($18.97{\pm}3.58mm$ for TJ and $20.31{\pm}4.59mm$ for OJ) were observed. Although the total excursion of the MTC and the MG fascicle length during the two types of jump were not significantly different, however the pattern of length changes were found to be different. For TJ, the fascicle length maintained isometric longer during the propulsive phase than OJ. Conclusion : One-legged and two-legged vertical jumping use different muscle-tendon interaction strategies.

  • This study aims to develop an AI education program for secondary school students to help understand AI and to provide an experience of solving real-life problems by using AI, and to analyze the effectiveness of education. The education program based on the AI education system for K-12 developed in the previous study was composed of a total of 12 lessons by selecting the self-driving cars, which is emerging as a recent issue among real life problems, as the main topic. Classes were conducted for secondary school students who had experience in software education, and the effectiveness of education and class satisfaction were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the understanding of AI and the sense of AI efficacy were improved, and the class satisfaction was high in all items such as educational content, fun in class, difficulty of class, and interest in AI. Based on these results, implications for AI education for secondary students were proposed.

  • Power electronics is an interdisciplinary area that is interstitial to all of the major disciplines of electrical engineering including power, electronics and control. Today, the covering field of power electronics has more widely spread out with the help of ever evolving microelectronics and computer science. Whereas, in Japan the tendency is becoming remarkable nowadays that science, especially "mathematics" and "hardware work", are falling into disfavor with the young people. For these reasons, it has become a very important problem to find out "what are the truest essentials of power electronics\ulcorner" and "How to give students incentives to learn power electronics\ulcorner " from an educational point of view In under-graduate and graduate courses in universities. On the other hand, the power electronics engineers in companies are always required to comply with the ever changing trend of global and open market. However, it takes long time to cultivate their skills. Against the background, "The Cooperative Research Committee on Education of Power Electronics" was established in the IEEJ Industry Applications Society during 2000-2001. The present status of the power electronics education in Japan is surveyed in this paper, and some problems with remedy are pointed out based on the discussions performed in the committee.sed on the discussions performed in the committee.

Relationship between Depression, Stress and Health Risk Behaviors among Some High School Students (고등학생의 우울 및 스트레스와 건강위험행위와의 관련성)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to examine the association between depression and stress and health risk behaviors of high school students. Methods : Participants were 1134 high school student. he participants completed the following measures : Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), CES-D(Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Results : The more stress score of male students is high, the score of the problem act on safety was significantly higher. The higher the score depression was significantly higher safety risk behavior score, violent behavior, act tries to commit suicide, smoking behavior, drug use behavior, inappropriate weight loss behavior, irregular eating habit, non-physical activity behavior. The more stress score of female students is significantly high was higher safety risk behavior score, irregular eating habit, non-physical activity behavior. The more depression score of female students is high was significantly higher safety risk behavior score, irregular eating habit, non-physical activity behavior. Conclusions: This study investigated the association between depression and stress and health risk behaviors, and helped in the development of programs to improve the health management ability of high school students.

  • The transient performance of the passenger diesel engine equipped with the variable geometry turbocharger was simulated using HIL(hardware-in-the-loop) system. The system consists of engine model as software, and the turbocharger test bench as hardware. The engine model is mean value model which is programmed by the Simulink of the Mathworks. The turbocharger test bench is composed of a blower, some sensors, and DAQ boards. A real time simulation is possible since the operating system based on the real time is included. The results show the good response for the transient characteristics. Therefore this HIL system can be used for development of the new turbocharger effectively.

Descriptions of Some Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Produced under Artificial Conditions and Collected in Korea (포트배양에 의해 증식된 Arbuscular 내생균근 균의 한국 미기록종 기재)

  • Eighty two soil samples were nation widely collected from nine places in Korea. Each soils were used as the inocula for the pot culture of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The twenty two species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi were successfully cultured by using the small pots under the conditions of green house and identified under light microscopes. Out of them, the five species were first isolated and decribed in Korea; Acaulospora morrowiae, A. rugosa, A. longula, Glomus fecundisporum, Gl. deserticolar. Three species of genus Glomus were not identified and Glomus clarum reporeted by Eom and Lee (1989) was redescribed.

Interior Design Graduate Education System and Degrees in Korea and the U.S. (한국과 미국의 실내디자인학 대학원 현황과 학위제도 특성)

  • Graduate education in general means nurturing scholars who are capable of research that adds to the 'body of knowledge' and educators in the higher education system. Therefore 'discovering' new knowledge has always been a major role of graduate schools. However, interior design is a special field that 'application' can also produce new knowledge and therefore a wider understanding of scholarship is needed especially in the graduate level education. The purpose of this paper is to understand Interior Design graduate education system in the United States in order to develop issues that need to be discusses and addressed in Korea. Therefore, this paper first examines meanings of graduate degrees in general and current situation of Interior degrees offered in Korea. Then investigates the different types of graduate degrees in the U.S. such as post-professional degrees, first-professional degrees, and differences in general degree(M.A., M.S.) and professional degrees (M.F.A., M.I.D.). The researcher has used websites of each school and information lists of degrees offered by KIID and IDEC that serves as the main educators council in each countries. The characteristics of graduate degrees in America can be described as a structured system based on variety, flexibility, and distinction. For instance, M.F.A means a professional degree that is focused on building theory based project abilities, longer period to study but counted as a terminal in the field. However, in Korea even though the title of the degrees may differ there is not much difference shown in the educational contents. Therefore issues such as developing a more universal and international degree system, flexible and selective educational road-map, mutual understanding and unified system between various organizations for better graduate education system are proposed. Moreover, hope to start a discourse on defining scholarship and professionalism in the field of Interior Design.

Mycorrhizal Formations and Seedling Growth of Pinus desiflora by in vitro Synthesis with the Inoculation of Ectomycorrhizal Fungi

  • The mycelia were directly isolated from eight species of fungal basidiocarps, confirmed to the ectomycorrhiza in the roots from the fields(forestry); Suillus bovinus, Paxillus involutus, Lactarius hysginus, Russula fragilis, Lepista nuda, Lyophyllum shimeji, Tricholoma matsutake, and Russula integra. The mycelia were pure-cultured with several transferring in various agars, and inoculated to the roots of pine(Pinus densiflora) seedling by in vitro method. After ten months growth under artificially aseptic conditions, all pine seedlings inoculated were stimulated at the growth-height, whereas those not inoculated were nearly dead. Also, the ramifications of ectomycorrhizal pine roots formed in the synthetic in vitro systems and were various according to the different mycelia. Synthesis of ectomycorrhiza were clearly confirmed in ten months growth, but not distinguished at this moment. It was clearly proved that the mycelia isolated caused the ectomycorrhizae in the roots of pine seedlings.

  • Recently, mathematical modeling has been attractive in that it could be one of many efforts to improve students' thinking and problem solving in mathematics education. Mathematical modeling is a non-linear process that involves elements of both a treated-as-real world and a mathematics world and also requires the application of mathematics to unstructured problem situations in real-life situation. This study provides analysis of literature review about modeling perspectives, case studies about mathematical modeling, and textbooks from the United States and Korea with perspective which mathematical modeling could be potential and meaningful to students even in elementary school. Further, teaching method with mathematical modeling was investigated to see the possibility of application to elementary mathematics classroom.
