Eco-driving technique for electric vehicles (EVs) is investigated in this paper. Many findings on EVs have been reported; however, they did not deal with eco-driving from the viewpoint of theoretical study. The authors have developed an energy-saving driving technique - the so-called "eco-driving" technique based on dynamic programming (DP). Optimal speed profile of an EV, which minimizes the amount of total energy consumption, was determined under fixed origin and destination, running time, and track conditions. DP algorithm can deal with such complicated conditions and can also derive the optimal solution. Using the proposed method, simulations were run for some cases. In particular, the author ran simulations for the case of a gradient road with a traffic signal. The optimization model was solved with MATLAB.

In this paper, we propose a feature selection technique for multi-label classification. Many existing feature selection techniques have selected features by calculating the relation between features and labels such as a mutual information scale. However, since the mutual information measure requires a joint probability, it is difficult to calculate the joint probability from an actual premise feature set. Therefore, it has the disadvantage that only a few features can be calculated and only local optimization is possible. Away from this regional optimization problem, we propose a feature selection technique that constructs a low-rank space in the entire given feature space and selects features with sparsity. To this end, we designed a regression-based objective function using Nuclear norm, and proposed an algorithm of gradient descent method to solve the optimization problem of this objective function. Based on the results of multi-label classification experiments on four data and three multi-label classification performance, the proposed methodology showed better performance than the existing feature selection technique. In addition, it was showed by experimental results that the performance change is insensitive even to the parameter value change of the proposed objective function.

With the prevalence of computers in modern organizations, simulation is receiving more atention as an effectvie decision -making tool. Simualtion is a computer-based numerical technique which uses mathmatical and logical models to approximate the behaviror of a real-world system. However, iptimization of synamic stochastic systems often defy analytical and algorithmic soluions. Although a simulation approach is often free fo the liminting assumption s of mathematical modeling, cost and time consiceration s make simulation the henayst's last resort. Therefore, whenever possible, analytical and algorithmica solutions are favored over simulation. This paper discussed the issues and procedrues for using simulation as a tool for optimization of stochastic complex systems that are dmodeled by computer simulation . Its emphasis is mostly on issues that are speicific to simulation optimization instead of consentrating on the general optimizationand mathematical programming techniques . A simulation optimization problem is an optimization problem where the objective function. constraints, or both are response that can only be evauated by computer simulation. As such, these functions are only implicit functions of decision parameters of the system, and often stochastic in nature as well. Most of optimization techniqes can be classified as single or multiple-resoneses techniques . The optimization of single response functins has been researched extensively and consists of many techniques. In the single response category, these strategies are gradient based search techniques, stochastic approximate techniques, response surface techniques, and heuristic search techniques. In the multiple response categroy, there are basically five distinct strategies for treating the responses and finding the optimum solution. These strategies are graphica techniqes, direct search techniques, constrained optimization techniques, unconstrained optimization techniques, and goal programming techniques. The choice of theprocedreu to employ in simulation optimization depends on the analyst and the problem to be solved. For many practival and industrial optimization problems where some or all of the system components are stochastic, the objective functions cannot be represented analytically. Therefore, modeling by computersimulation is one of the most effective means of studying such complex systems. In this paper, after discussion of simulation optmization techniques, the applications of above techniques will be presented in the modeling process of many flexible manufacturing systems.

Design optimization is a method to find optimum point which minimizes the objective function while satisfying design constraints. The conventional optimization does not consider the uncertainty originated from modeling or manufacturing process, so optimum point often locates on the boundaries of constraints. Reliability based design optimization includes optimization technique and reliability analysis that calculates the reliability of the system. Reliability analysis can be classified into simulation method, fast probability integration method, and moment-based reliability method. In most generally used MPP based reliability analysis, which is one of fast probability integration method, if many MPP points exist, cost and numerical error can increase in the process of transforming constraints into standard normal distribution space. In this paper, multiplicative decomposition method is used as a reliability analysis for RBDO, and sensitivity analysis is performed to apply gradient based optimization algorithm. To illustrate whole process of RBDO mathematical and engineering examples are illustrated.

Alternative formulation is presented for robust optimization problems and an efficient computational scheme for reliability estimation is proposed. Both design variables and design parameters considered as random variables about their nominal values. To ensure the robustness of objective performance a new cost function bounding the performance and a new constraint limiting the performance variation are introduced. The constraint variations are regulated by considering the probability of feasibility. Each probability constraint is transformed into a sub-optimization problem and then is resolved with the modified advanced first order second moment(AFOSM) method for computational efficiency. The proposed robust optimization method has advantages that the mean value and the variation of the performance function are controlled simultaneously and the second order sensitivity information is not required even in case of gradient based optimization. The suggested method is examined by solving three examples and the results are compared with those for deterministic case and those available in literature.

Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature. However, the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. In this study a new identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured frequency response functions(FRF) coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment step. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is useful in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.

An efficient boundary-based technique is developed for addressing shape design sensitivity analysis in supercavitating flow problem. An analytical sensitivity formula in the form of a boundary integral is derived based on the continuum formulation for a general functional defined in potential flow problems. The formula, which is expressed in terms of the boundary solutions and shape variation vectors, can be conveniently used for gradient computation in a variety of shape design in potential flow problems. While the sensitivity can be calculated independent of the analysis means, such as the finite element method (FEM) or the boundary element method (BEM), the FEM is used for the analysis in this study because of its popularity and easy-to-use features. The advantage of using a boundary-based method is that the shape variation vectors are needed only on the boundary, not over the whole domain. The boundary shape variation vectors are conveniently computed by using finite perturbations of the shape geometry instead of complex analytical differentiation of the geometry functions. The supercavitating flow problem is chosen to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed methodology. Implementation issues for the sensitivity analysis and optimization procedure are also addressed in this flow problem.
