The purpose of this study was to investigate how teachers recognize the differentiation of gifted education in invention to gifted education in science. An online survey was conducted to more than 500 hundred school teachers to ask (1) if gifted education in invention is necessary as an independent area of gifted education, (2) if gifted education in invention should be differentiated in identification, education programs, councelling, facilities and so on to gifted education in science, and (3) what problems gifted education in invention are facing and how we can promote gifted education in invention. Findings by this study are like the following: 1. Almost all teachers, regardless of whether their duty is related to gifted education in invention or not, recognized the necessity of gifted education in invention as an independent area of gifted education, especially from gifted education in science. 2. Teachers recognized the differentiation of gifted education in invention in diverse aspects of gifted education, like identification, educational programming, and so on, especially to gifted education in science. 3. Teachers recognized the shortage of trained teachers as the most critical obstacles to gifted education in invention, and also thought training programs for teachers as the most important means that can promote gifted education in invention.
The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of the teachers of the gifted and to identify present status of the training and employment system of the teachers of the gifted in Korea. The characteristics of the teachers of the gifted were explained in three areas of philosophical understanding, experts' characteristics, and personal characteristics. The training program should include various activities, for example, discussion, field trip, making a product, seminar, workshop, practice in various teaching models, etc., to foster creative and higher-order thinking abilities. - To prepare various kinds of training programs in consideration of various teachers' needs. - To provide a training successively. The 60 hours' training is not sufficient to be a good and effective teacher of the gifted. Successive training is needed. - To prepare various incentives which make many competent teachers to take part in gifted education. - To improve process to select and to employ the teacher of the gifted. Many teachers want an more open and strict scrutiny process to select and employ the teachers of the gifted.
In this study, we developed an efficient in-service teachers training program, which could help the professional development of science gifted teachers. The characteristic feature of this in-service training program was to put great emphasis on interaction between fellow teachers. With this program, teachers could share their experiences and informations about gifted education. The program consisted of 4 interaction modules: 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning', 'the module of interaction in the small group', 'the module of interaction at the plan of application', 'the module of interaction at the practical exercise'. In this study, we analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. We analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. Each teachers got 17.2 correction opinions from peer teachers. They accepted 79.2% opinions among them and refused the other opinions (20.8% opinions). In the analysis of 'program process', the interactions for the improvement about 'the acquirements of knowledge and function' step were 41.9% and the interactions for the improvement about 'plan and exploration' step were 30.5%. In the analysis of 'program domain', the interactions about 'method of teaching and learning' were 41.9%. The interactions about 'program step' were 28.6% and the interactions about 'learning contentsh were 24.8%. With these results, we discussed the features of interaction between science gifted education teachers and proposed the improvement of in-service training program for elementary science gifted teachers.

Teachers from different institutions showed different responses to 'professionalism of working personnel' and 'utilization of advisory committee'. Second, teachers viewed that 13 criteria need consideration. Teachers from different institutions showed different responses to 'support personnel for gifted education' and 'educational equipment and resource supply'. Third, teachers viewed that consideration is needed for 2 criteria. Teachers from different institutions showed different responses to 'efforts for professional development of instructors'. Fourth, teachers viewed 4 criteria need consideration. Teachers from different institutions showed different responses to 'budget planning for next year'. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of perception on giftedness between homeroom teachers and teachers of the gifted. The data was collected from 13 homeroom teachers and 8 teachers of gifted students. It was analyzed using recommendation letters, and shorthand notes about giftedness. The results of the study were as follows: most homeroom teachers used awards, learning attitude, presentation of self and school achievements for defined giftedness and preferred an exemplary student with task commitment but often overlooked motivation. The teachers of the gifted preferred motivation and self-satisfaction but not other social and affective characteristics. Also homeroom teachers thought that education condition is important, while the teachers of the gifted believed it was not an all important element. These differences will hurt the credibility in the selection or gifted students because homeroom teachers and teachers of the gifted use different words and expressions in their assessments of the same students. Therefore, I believe more needs to be done to encourage homeroom teachers to better understand gifted children through training programs.
